    Always a guessing game when you book in a new place. Glad that we chose Porta. Most comfortable beds, clean and modern room with a small balcony overlooking the view you come to Panajachel for. Yes, it’s one of the most expensive hotels here, but you get what you pay for!

    Bar, restaurant, grounds all top notch. Staff friendly but forced to enforce lots of little rules. However the rooms were a letdown - bed too hard, no light or screen or table on the patio, no safe, no refrigerator, TV remote was incomprehensible, no ceiling fan, no handheld shower - many amenities that we found in local hotels costing 1/3 as much were not here, bringing down the value of this rather costly place.

    Right by the waters edge, and hence convenient to walk to the piers. Great views of the volcano as well. Room and bathroom are clean and modern, nice balcony for the view. Service is generally ok, except that guests have to wear a tag to "prove" that they are guests there, which is not very welcoming nor comfortable.
