Hempstead House Hotel & Restaurant

We come here every 2 - 3 months and have done for a few years. Leading hectic lives we need a day or two to relax and connect every so often. The staff are so welcoming and can’t do enough for you. Kelly on reception has always been amazing. The spa is perfect and we always leave feeling so refreshed and excited for when we next return.

We were looking forward to a relaxing weekend away, with room service for breakfast and use of the spa facilities. We booked an executive room, as it states on the website that the room sleeps 4, so felt this would be more roomy to enjoy breakfast. Sadly this wasn't the case, unless you put 2 people in the wardrobe! Apparently a number of executive rooms only accommodate 2 people, but this isn't shown on the website, nor was it pointed out to us when we checked in. The room was small and hot. Air conditioning didn't work and with a wasps nest outside the window, we had to keep the window closed. We ran the aircon unit for a breeze and an additional tower fan. The curtains were hanging off of the rail, the hooks for the tiebacks were falling off of the wall, the bedside table was covered in rings and the extremely slippery bath had no rubber bath mat and being a very high sided bath, it made it very risky to get in and out without slipping. Unfortunately, we think our room may have been directly beneath a room that was in constant use, as we were woken at around 4.30am with constant walking across squeaky floorboards and thumping, making it impossible to get back to sleep. Breakfast was lovely, but the restaurant is shared with the spa, so be prepared for people to dine in dressing gowns. We thought we would go for a leisurely swim in a lovely indoor pool, but unlike other spas we have been to, the code doesn't seem to be about relaxation, with a group of women being incredibly rowdy and the indoor pool area being very echoey, we couldn't even hear one another think, resulting in us cutting short our swim and retreating to somewhere more quiet for a quick coffee before leaving earlier than planned. Maybe it would be a good idea for the website to be more specific and put some signs up in the spa, asking for consideration towards other guests using the facilities! Sadly, despite this site offering to upload images, it won't accept them.
