We loved the castle—the bedroom was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious, and the staff were friendly. The food was absolutely fantastic.
Hair dryer was faulty but luckily as not needed didn’t need to use.

Building and grounds look fabulous , staff are excellent , food is great and well priced .
It is a wedding venue and these can overcrowd , and also are very noisy at night especially as they do not finish till gone midnight with the disco underneath the rooms .

Lots of history, lovely building and grounds. The food was absolutely unreal, I am craving everything I ate here right now! Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely amazing. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom had everything you need and was very clean. We spent the day in the spa which we absolutely loved too. We really can’t wait to visit again, hopefully in the next couple of months.
Some areas of the building are in need of some updating/decorating and there are external parts that have been extended unsympathetically (1960’s extension) which really spoils the look of the castle however this is to the rear of the property.

The room was very good value for money and was quite large.
The mattress on the bed was very thin and had an uncomfortable night sleep I'm afraid. I couldn't remember where the breakfast was being served and there was no one on reception at 7:30am.

Amazing location.
Amazing hotel.
Sleeping in a place with almost 800 years of history is an experience by itself.
The peacocks surrounding the hotel are beautiful, and my 3 year old daughter loved them.
It’s not for everyone, but if you like staying in a castle, it’s an amazing experience and a beautiful place.
We will definitely come back!
Our room was not cleaned. When I asked about it, I was told that I needed to inform staff that the room required cleaning; however, there was no sign in the bedroom indicating this, and no one informed us of such a requirement. I raised a complaint, and the staff resolved the issue. Additionally, the kettle in my room was broken.

Breakfast was really good lots of choice and help yourself buffet style. Close to town centre so once car is parked up dont need use it again
A little bit of back ground music would have been nice for the evening meal to create a bit more atmosphere.

Being in a castle was fun. It snowed and the the atmosphere was magical.
I was disappointed we got there too late to use facilities.

Room was big and warm, bed comfortable. Not much in the room though and no information pack so I had to walk down to reception for internet details. Internet connection was very poor! Spa was OK, booked 5pm hot tub and to be honest it was disappointing as it was warm at best. I don’t know if they can reheat fast enough after the last users or they are worn out, regardless hot tub was disappointing and I wouldn’t bother next time. Staff were friendly, breakfast was good. Little bar was ok for a quick pint whilst waiting for the wife! At £170 for the night I think you’re paying for the castle experience rather than quality, next time I would go back to the Cumbrian Lake District. Monday night was pretty dire in Ruthin, 2 out of 3 restaurants on the square were closed, if it hadn’t been for Jacques Wine Bar we would have been in Weatherspoons! Jacques was massively under staffed, had 2 booked in and did 60, but staff were friendly, food was good if a little pricey, and they gave us some drinks on the house for the wait. Ruthin is a nice town in general, I have been many times in the day, but very quiet in the evenings.

Central location. Highly recommend Small Plates. Beautiful town. We had a great room, big size and overlooking town.
Decor in rooms a bit dated. Temperature of shower difficult to control.

Good location for walking into town. Beautiful old building with lots of history. Good park for walking dog.
Very tired building. Easy to get lost around the maze of corridors. Need clearer signage. Impossible not to soak bath floor when using shower! Not the best breakfast.

I've visited this hotel 3 times now once for a wedding once for the medieval banquet and this time. Although set in a beautiful location the hotel itself is very tired and in need of much updating. Couldn't fault the staff breakfast was average. I didn't use spa facilities so can't comment.
Decor in need of much refurbishment

The castle itself is a fantastic place to stay. Staff are friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay again.
The room was a letdown. There was evidence of damp down one of the walls by the bed, cobwebs in various places, and the bathroom had a semi-blocked and quite dirty drain under the bath, causing the floor to flood when showering.

Lovely historic setting ! Had a spa evening as well. With mud treatment that we adored!
Needs a little patching up on a wall with damp in the hall way. It it’s an old place so to be expected

We loved the position and beauty of the castle. It was very interesting. The central location and grounds were fabulous.
The bed was comfortable and plenty of hot water in the bathroom.
The breakfast was really nice and in a lovely room, gorgeous views from windows.
Our room was very tired, the paintwork all needed a refresh, there was an odd corner wardrobe plus a mirrored one, mismatched mugs one very small and one normal. Twin beds pushed together to make a king which we don't like. Noisy Aircon and big gap under the door to corridor.

Staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly.
The room was lovely, very comfortable.
The location obviously is beautiful in itself.
The shower/bath in our room wasn't the easiest or most practical but we've stayed before and there lovely in other rooms.

Saturday morning breakfast was fine no problem at all all options available and I ordered a scrambled egg too which was lovely. There was plenty of choice for breakfast too. The room we stayed in was nice and spacious, a stain on the carpet that just didn't look great but I could get over that. The beds were comfy but the mattress a bit too spongy for my back, however I slept well on 2nd night. Dinner was nice, some things on menu I didn't quite like but I enjoyed both meals. The 2nd meal they swapped the sides on my seabass and it was perfect with mash and kale. I found all the staff really friendly and helpful.
Friday Morning Breakfast was a bit poorly organised but we got there in the end, many of the hot food items had gone and we had to wait a while for them to come and they came in bits not all together but overall I ended up fed and satisfied, just a bit frustrating at first.

What a beautiful place. The history is outstanding.
Stairs and more stairs. It’s just when you have one leg longer than the other they aren’t ideal. There were stairs in the bedroom which I fell down twice, I feel it’s to do with the carpet. It didn’t stop me enjoying myself.

The location of the property and the property itself is amazing. We were there for a wedding and the wedding was amazing from the room used to the service and the way the whole day went. It was great.
Very expensive for what it is. Our room was 200 and was very small and dirty.
There was stains on the bedding and pillows, ripped bedding as well as mould in the shower.
With it being a castle you expect a rustic style however a minimum expectation is cleanliness.
We complained about this and was just told we will let a manager know.

The bath was long. The history of the place.
The place felt unclean, with dusty areas, stained, sticky carpets, and multiple damp smells throughout the building, including the room. The old, musty odors were overwhelming. I tried to turn off the air conditioning but it switched back on later. I opened three windows to air out the room, but when I closed the heavy curtains, dust clouds filled the air. The chair had sweat stains, and the carpet was sticky. The mismatched furniture included a massive, musty wooden wardrobe and shiny MDF sideboards outside the bathroom. The headboards felt sticky and dirty. While the bed was soft and comfortable enough for sleep despite flickering lights and noisy air conditioning outside, I hesitated to inspect the beds and pillows further due to the overall lack of cleanliness.Staff were abrupt and seemed irritated by polite questions, even arguing among themselves in front of us. The breakfast was subpar: despite booking a set time and arriving promptly, the coffee was cold, and the juice and water were not replenished. We asked different staff multiple times about replacing the missing breakfast items, but they snapped at us and replaced nothing. The breakfast was lacking, with missing eggs, mushrooms, and hash browns. The afternoon tea was disappointing and poorly executed, featuring an overly sweet sorbet, a large dish of cream, one scone, four dry sponge cakes, two brownies, and three slices of bread with ham, beef, and gammon—insufficient for two people. We hardly ate any of it. Despite booking for noon, our order arrived at 12:35, and they dismissed our need to be at the spa by 12:30, claiming they'd inform them, but they did not and later questioned our tardiness.
At the spa, many facilities were broken, and the relaxation room was plagued by loud hammering from repairs. Unpleasant odors filled the spa, particularly in the gym, which smelled of old sweat and mould. The woodland hot tub area was even worse, with Faeces on the pathways, chairs, and around the hot...

Was a great stop in a brilliant village. Needs a bit of gardening done and maybe some love to the building but all in all was great
