Two night stay.
The castle itself is a fantastic place to stay. Staff are friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay again.
The room was a letdown. There was evidence of damp down one of the walls by the bed, cobwebs in various places, and the bathroom had a semi-blocked and quite dirty drain under the bath, causing the floor to flood when showering.

Lovely venue, beautiful setting and surroundings.staff were lovely and friendly
Lovely historic setting ! Had a spa evening as well. With mud treatment that we adored!
Needs a little patching up on a wall with damp in the hall way. It it’s an old place so to be expected

Ruthin castle stay
We loved the position and beauty of the castle. It was very interesting. The central location and grounds were fabulous.
The bed was comfortable and plenty of hot water in the bathroom.
The breakfast was really nice and in a lovely room, gorgeous views from windows.
Our room was very tired, the paintwork all needed a refresh, there was an odd corner wardrobe plus a mirrored one, mismatched mugs one very small and one normal. Twin beds pushed together to make a king which we don't like. Noisy Aircon and big gap under the door to corridor.

Excellent in every way. A beautiful, relaxing birthday weekend
Staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly.
The room was lovely, very comfortable.
The location obviously is beautiful in itself.
The shower/bath in our room wasn't the easiest or most practical but we've stayed before and there lovely in other rooms.

Great I loved the peacocks everywhere and the Castle itself was beautiful.
Saturday morning breakfast was fine no problem at all all options available and I ordered a scrambled egg too which was lovely. There was plenty of choice for breakfast too. The room we stayed in was nice and spacious, a stain on the carpet that just didn't look great but I could get over that. The beds were comfy but the mattress a bit too spongy for my back, however I slept well on 2nd night. Dinner was nice, some things on menu I didn't quite like but I enjoyed both meals. The 2nd meal they swapped the sides on my seabass and it was perfect with mash and kale. I found all the staff really friendly and helpful.
Friday Morning Breakfast was a bit poorly organised but we got there in the end, many of the hot food items had gone and we had to wait a while for them to come and they came in bits not all together but overall I ended up fed and satisfied, just a bit frustrating at first.

Amazing, perfect staff and lovely food.
What a beautiful place. The history is outstanding.
Stairs and more stairs. It’s just when you have one leg longer than the other they aren’t ideal. There were stairs in the bedroom which I fell down twice, I feel it’s to do with the carpet. It didn’t stop me enjoying myself.

Great venue but disappointing room
The location of the property and the property itself is amazing. We were there for a wedding and the wedding was amazing from the room used to the service and the way the whole day went. It was great.
Very expensive for what it is. Our room was 200 and was very small and dirty.
There was stains on the bedding and pillows, ripped bedding as well as mould in the shower.
With it being a castle you expect a rustic style however a minimum expectation is cleanliness.
We complained about this and was just told we will let a manager know.

Was convenient and a great village
Was a great stop in a brilliant village. Needs a bit of gardening done and maybe some love to the building but all in all was great

Dirty, dusty, mouldy and irritated staff.
The bath was long. The history of the place.
The place felt unclean, with dusty areas, stained, sticky carpets, and multiple damp smells throughout the building, including the room. The old, musty odors were overwhelming. I tried to turn off the air conditioning but it switched back on later. I opened three windows to air out the room, but when I closed the heavy curtains, dust clouds filled the air. The chair had sweat stains, and the carpet was sticky. The mismatched furniture included a massive, musty wooden wardrobe and shiny MDF sideboards outside the bathroom. The headboards felt sticky and dirty. While the bed was soft and comfortable enough for sleep despite flickering lights and noisy air conditioning outside, I hesitated to inspect the beds and pillows further due to the overall lack of cleanliness.Staff were abrupt and seemed irritated by polite questions, even arguing among themselves in front of us. The breakfast was subpar: despite booking a set time and arriving promptly, the coffee was cold, and the juice and water were not replenished. We asked different staff multiple times about replacing the missing breakfast items, but they snapped at us and replaced nothing. The breakfast was lacking, with missing eggs, mushrooms, and hash browns. The afternoon tea was disappointing and poorly executed, featuring an overly sweet sorbet, a large dish of cream, one scone, four dry sponge cakes, two brownies, and three slices of bread with ham, beef, and gammon—insufficient for two people. We hardly ate any of it. Despite booking for noon, our order arrived at 12:35, and they dismissed our need to be at the spa by 12:30, claiming they'd inform them, but they did not and later questioned our tardiness.
At the spa, many facilities were broken, and the relaxation room was plagued by loud hammering from repairs. Unpleasant odors filled the spa, particularly in the gym, which smelled of old sweat and mould. The woodland hot tub area was even worse, with Faeces on the pathways, chairs, and around the hot...

Vastly overpriced, worse than disappointing would not recommend it to anyone
The history of the castle
Nothing like as advertised on their website, have stayed in better 3star accommodation.
Definitely nowhere near a 4 star stay, De Grey Suite we booked not as depicted on website, ornately carved feature bed with floor to ceiling drapes behind it and matching bedside drawer units were nowhere to be seen, actual bed in the room was a standard queen size divan with a large upholstered headboard attached to the wall and two matching chrome and glass side tables the quilt was undersized (only a double) and the quilt cover was a queen size resulting in over 18 inches of loose material, complimentary tea/coffee was a basic mix with an old stained kettle hidden inside a dark corner cupboard with chipped and flaking paint both inside and out, two of the three soap/shampoo dispensers were empty. No Ruthin Castle bathrobes as advertised on website.
There were a number of other problems which we listed and handed to reception the next morning but only one thing was rectified by that evening.
We stayed here 10+ year’s ago and then it was a luxurious indulgent stay that we thoroughly enjoyed, our stay on the 16th and 17th October was what could only be a utterly disappointing and grossly overpriced.
I have written a formal complaint letter to the marketing manager and I am awaiting a response.
Be aware all payments for accommodation and drinks at the bar have to be paid for upfront!!!!

Fantastic, comfortable and quiet stay. Perfect !
We stayed for board, breakfast and evening meal. 2 adults and a fox red labrador. They allow £30.00 per person for evening dinner which normally covers 2 courses, you just have to pay the extra "over and above" cost. The room we had (208) had a really fantastic bedroom and although the bathroom could do with a little updating, it was perfectly clean and functional. The shower water pressure was a bit weak but "Hey", its a castle, what do you expect ?
Staff were great and very loving towards our daft labrador. Grounds were great also for a short "dog walk", once the dog had figuared out what Peacocks and Sheep were. Interesting walk around the castle walls also.
Easy free parking.
It's a pity that the evening meal allowance won't cover 3 courses and in fairness the menu, which was the same for everyone, was a bit limited choice wise ALTHOUGH the sticky toffee pudding was worth every penny of any extra we needed to pay. The Hotel was an amazing experiance and the only thing it would REALLY benefit from was for the Spa area to include a swimming pool, although I suspect the local planning at the council wouldn't allow one to be built on such an amazing site.

A good value central location from which to explore Ruthin.
Perfect location to explore the town. Excellent breakfast. Lovely grounds. Good air-conditioning.
The room was a little dark. The shower had no cubicle which meant the bathroom was essentially a wet room. Very unpleasant. No cask ale in the bar.

Went on a Monday, very quiet, lovely suite, town was very close, nice grounds, good food, easy parking nice quiet relaxi
Good location, good facilities, nice food
Very small gripe, no fridge in the room
7.0 / 10.0
Fine and we felt welcomed by the staff.
I thought the £35/head to use the spa was an excessive fee for a hotel resident; the carpet and paintwork in certain areas in and leading to our room 201 needs renewing; for a so-called deluxe room at the rate we paid the coffee-making facilities should be renewed daily

Staff are very helpful and pleasent. Hotel could do with a refurb.
Buffet breakfast - items missing every day - first bacon, then eggs, etc.
Furnishings looked tired and there were cracks on the bath.

Food excellent, but this hotel is definitely not up the rating awarded.
The evening meal was excellent, however the breakfast was standard.
The paintwork in the room was flaking off. The shower hose was filthy, clearly had not been cleaned for a long time. The chrome plated plug in the bath was pitted and rusting. Not sure if the back of the bathroom was covered in dirt or the paint was flaking away. Did not want to touch it. The paint on all the doors leading to our room had marks where, again the paintwork had been scraped off. The overall cleanliness of the building leaves a lot to be desired.
This hotel is definitely not worth the money that we paid.
Clearly run on a minimum budget with less the minimum staff.

Stunning, historical property with beautiful grounds.
An amazing property to spend a night away. The history and grandeur are evident. Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. Our room was a long walk from reception and anyone with mobility issues would struggle. The room itself was huge with everything we needed for our short stay.
There was only one option for a vegetarian meal so we ate out in the town.
5.0 / 10.0
It was an okay stay but far too overpriced for what you get compared to other hotels
I liked that there were vegan food options available. My Wife said that the spa was very good and really enjoyed that. I liked seeing the history of the castle. The grounds were well kept. The staff were very helpful.
Although there were vegan meals and they were nice, they were both tomato based which was too much by the main.
The breakfast was very standard and noticeably out of a tin for the price and described as a " Good breakfast"
Our bath tap had been damaged in the past and looked horrible the way it had been siliconed back together.
The roof started pouring rain water into our room, we were moved to a different room but it was stressful for my wife whilst she was taking a bath.
The body wash/shampoo dispensers were basically empty on arrival.
There were socks left on a chair when we arrived.

If you like historic places it is a good place to stay.
Great location. Historic building. Friendly, professional staff. Restaurant food was very good quality. The interior is very dated, but it is a castle.
Attention to detail needed in the room we stayed in. No shower gel or hand wash in room, it had ran out and had not been replenished, we had to ask for some. Hot water cap on tap was missing. No shelves in bathroom to place wash bags on. Hallway had damp patches on the carpet where the roof was leaking and water was coming through the ceiling.

Disappointing and very expensive.
Grounds and location are lovely.
Staff are friendly and welcoming.
Bed was very comfortable
Everywhere was dark and dusty. Windows are broken and place smells musty. Carpets need hoovering and stairs need dusting.
Breakfast was so disappointing we didn’t bother on the 2nd morning .
Drinks extremely expensive.
Spa but no pool

Overpriced and desperate for a cash injection
The grounds are beautiful
The whole place is dated and grubby. Absolutely not worth £200+

Would stay again because of the history of the place but they could do some things in the dining room to improve.
Air conditioning in room, good bicycles storage storage, bathtub, unique property
Dinner was okay (not great) but breakfast was bad (room is not well-set up for a buffet, it was crowded, they’d didn’t keep the buffet restocked).

Great Location and Hotel, will be back again.
Amazing setting and wonderful room, the castle grounds and hotel are wonderful, The peacocks are really interesting
Dinner is only served until 9pm, we struggled to get some food in the town as everywhere was finished. however a lovely gentleman at the wine bar laid on a cheeseboard for us.

Tired
Beautiful location, love the peacocks
We have stayed in Ruthin Castle many times as we have family here. Unfortunately, it is a lottery with the rooms. Some of the rooms are in desperate need of renovation with 1970s wardrobes, mismatched furniture, and tired decor. On the other hand, the refurbished rooms are lovely. Sadly, on this occasion, we drew the short straw. Our room was tired, the toilet didn't flush properly and there was mould in the bath/shower. Avoid room 307
