I have been a frequent guest at Le Méridien for many years, staying there regularly during my business trips to Dubai. Unfortunately, my most recent stay made it clear that both the property’s standards and the level of service have declined significantly. What disappointed me from the moment I checked in was that I was treated as if I were a first-time guest. The receptionist even asked whether it was my first stay at the hotel. A quick look at my reservation history would have shown that I have been a loyal customer for years. Considering this was my first visit after travel resumed following the regional conflict, I genuinely expected the hotel to be making an extra effort to welcome returning guests and rebuild customer confidence. The hospitality industry had gone through a difficult period, and every returning customer should matter. A simple “Welcome back” would have taken seconds and demonstrated that guest loyalty is genuinely valued. Instead, the staff appeared uninterested and overly occupied, despite the Royal Club building being closed due to low occupancy. The suite itself was another major disappointment. It was dark, outdated, had almost no natural light, and felt more like a confined space than a premium suite. To make matters worse, a strong sewage odor began coming through the room and eventually filled the entire suite. When I reported the issue, it took approximately 45 minutes for the hotel to decide how to respond. The proposed solution was simply to mask the smell with air freshener, which is completely unacceptable for a hotel of this category. I refused and requested a different suite. I even offered to pay the difference to upgrade to a better suite, but was told there was no availability. I then asked to downgrade my room and receive a refund for the price difference, only to be told that I would have to seek any refund through Agoda. Only after insisting and expressing my dissatisfaction did the hotel finally move me to another suite of the same category. Unfortunately, it was hardly an improvement. The balcony faced a wall, the room was just as outdated and dark, and the overall experience remained far below the standard I had come to expect from Le Méridien. After years of choosing this hotel, this stay convinced me that it is time to take my business elsewhere. Loyalty should be recognized, not ignored, and basic room quality should never be compromised by issues such as sewage odors and inadequate handling of guest complaints. The only positive aspect of my stay was that the hotel granted me a late checkout after my flight was disrupted due to airspace closures. I appreciate that gesture, but it does not come close to offsetting an otherwise disappointing experience. Sadly, this was the stay that ended my loyalty to Le Méridien.
