Breakfast was lovely, the setting and grounds are beautiful, the staff were friendly and the room was comfortable and clean.
The room was a little bit on the rough around the edges side, it was a little bit dated and some of the facilities are probably in need of replacing (the shower and the toilet!) but these are just nit-picks really.

breakfast - good selection, however would have liked it served warmer and a choice of eggs
all good

Breakfast was good
The amount of dogs and the seemingly unlimited access they had to all areas of the hotel including the breakfast room. Also our room was very small and whilst described as cozy for 2 was more like a single room. When we checked out we were not even asked how our stay was! Seemed more like a dog hotel that allows humans to stay!

Good location, beautiful grounds. Breakfast included
Room was small and grubby and absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke despite your advertising a non smoking policy. When highlighted , staff quite rude and somewhat unhelpful. Receptionist opened a window which I then struggled to close and simply sprayed air freshener. Bathroom dirty and moulds. Your website did not mention that there was no lift, and I have mobility issues - the stairs were a real challenge. I had to complain when checking out and was offered a mere £20 refund - I had paid £116 .

Breakfast was excellent. The hotel location suited us because we have friends living nearby and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was upgraded and was huge with lovely bathroom and very comfy bed. Perfect all round. We will be back.
The weather !! But you can’t change that in Devon.

We’ve stayed in the hotel before and apart from being a lovely place, it’s in an ideal location for us to meet up with family. Definitely would stay again.
We know our room was a cozy! Double but it was smaller than we expected. Also the floor was very uneven.

We loved the size of the room, the four poster bed was a bonus and having a bath as well as a shower. Breakfast was good but lacked a choice of fruit to go with the yoghurt also only one choice of pastry.
Lack of choice of fruit to go with the Yoghurt only one choice of pastry. We stayed an extra night but the room wasnt serviced this wasnt mentioned when we booked.

Charming hotel, comfortable. Good bar for evening nightcap. Friendly staff
Location was difficult to find from train station if you do not know the area
Very good breakfast but no pastries or croissant left which was disappointing

Location good for Eggsford station.
Convenient for visiting surrounding area.
Footpath needed for pedestrians from Station to hotel as road is narrow with no footpath. This should be a local authority responsibility as hotel is bringing visitors into the garden.

The property itself is set back within a beautiful surrounding, the grounds were lovely to walk around, inside and outside beautifully decorated.
Not very wheelchair friendly, we attended a wedding which was down by the tree house, the path was very uneven and not great for pushchairs let alone wheelchair users.

Friendly, helpful staff. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was very good.
Room was noisy due to kitchen vent being by our room.

Great place for a stop over when going to Cornwall.
Staff are excellent
Very dog friendly, extensive grounds and river to exercise your dog
😀
We have stopped at the Fox and Hounds for a number of years and parts of the hotel are getting a little tired.
But still a great place to stay

The general setting was delightful as was the walk down through your grounds to the river
The only small issue for us was the unnecessary waste of YOUR water at the washbasin in order to deliver hot water which when it came was tepid

Very nice building in beautiful countryside.
Comfortable room, spotlessly clean and adequate facilities.
Very few staff around. The hotel was almost empty. No-one to assist with carrying a suitcase up a staircase and along corridors to the room.

Beautiful location/ surroundings. Great dog walking area and as per reviews I read before booking, the hotel is 100% dog friendly.
Consistency with information. We had the information leaflet given to us on arrival which detailed the room cleaning/restocking of tea/coffee etc. However, when we asked for more we were told that it should have been restocked whilst we were out. It hadn't been and when we again asked at reception we were told it was only done every other day but reception happily got us more. Confused! Our room was a mismatch of old and new furnishing which didn't work together and the paintwork was cracked/flaking off in areas, there were also several dips in the floor suggesting the floorboards need attention. I recognise that this may be a room on the "to do" list but it didn't give a very good impression of the hotel.

Everything about it was outstanding, everything there ready for the log burner, milk, bread, butter ect was a lovely surprise! Plenty of towels and face flannels was great!

Wow! If you are looking for an escape to the countryside, with absolutely brilliant food, atmosphere, lovely staff and hosts, then you should look no further. We are yet to experience a more dog friendly venue. There are many hotels which tolerate dogs.
This is a hotel where the team clearly love dogs and make sure that they are having as great a time as their pawrents. All the dogs were lovely and sociable and it was great for our relatively young pup to improve his social skills with both dogs and humans in a caring and relaxed environment.
The hotel is situate on the River Taw.
Day ticket fishing is available and highly recommended. Matt and Tom are on hand to provide advice on the best pools and flies and to share tales of fish netted - as well as the "tugs" and "long-range releases" that all anglers will know well. They have a brilliant knowledge of the local beats which host wild Brown Trout, Salmon and Seatrout. The beats are truly beautiful and exactly what you need to unwind and relax in the nature. I managed to net a respectable Brown Trout which was in mint condition - lovely healthy wild fish. I can't wait to return to fish the Taw in future.
It was a wonderful trip and we have certainly found our Devon retreat.
We will be sure to return soon.

Fantastic staff!!! Felt like home! Loved Maddie in the reception! She felt like a friend! Shared her childhood swimming spots, suggested hiking routes, outings 💕. Tom Butt in the reception had been there for nearly 20 years and smiled so much and always chatted with us. The owners Matt and Helen were amazing. Pottering around always with a smile. Most amazing stay ever and this is because of the people there. Everybody serving and in the bar were exceptional! We stayed both in the treehouse and in the hotel. The treehouse is such an experience! The terrace is peaceful. Gorgeous garden. Best parking right outside. Train station only only 5 min walk away. Gotta have a car to get around a bit. Quiet and peaceful.

Very good dinner. Very good breakfast. Excellent staff attitude and service. Beautiful setting and super spacious public rooms
Definitely recommend and stay again if in the area. Very well catered for dogs.
A proper window, rather than a skylight. A lift would help, plus extra handrail on the stairs. I husband has walking problems and there was nothing to hang on to for part of the staircase. They said they would rectify this.

great location, friendly staff, clean and comfortable. The grounds with its ponds and river are fantastic. The breakfast was very good as was the restaurant for dinner.
Too many dogs! I appreciate that this is a dog friendly hotel but naively, I didn’t expect so many and not just well behaved small dogs. Dogs at breakfast, dogs in the restaurant, it was a bit like Crufts. if you are a dog lover and need a great dog friendly place to stay in north Devon, the I would highly recommend this place.
