Front deck staff should be nice and helpful

Location

The front office lady wasn’t helpful. Lots of attitude and poor customer service. She would be in her 50s. Unsure of her name. I booked this hotel just because they advertised that it has a Tesla charging station. However when I got there I realised that the Charing station didn’t have any cables and it was kept at the reception. If you want to charge your car you have to go and collect the cable from the reception. The station was not super charging station therefore it takes 5 to 6 hours to fully charge your car. Since I was travelling all the way from Auckland I wanted to charge my car 100% to get back here next day. I approached the reception around 7.30pm to put the car on charge. The lady at the reception was hesitant to hand over the cable ( unsure why)but firm that she wanted the cables back before 10pm. Unsure why she didn’t allow me to keep the cable overnight so that i could charge my car overnight. This single incident affected my whole trip alot as I had to travel to a different location just to charge my car before Harding back to Auckland.

Very decent buffet breakfast for $25. Had everything you would expect of a European/English style breakfast buffet. Small but nice pool. Only about 5 mins walk into the centre of Paihia - took the Ferry to Russell and had a wonderful dinner at the Duke of Marlborough, a real highlight!

The outside of the hotel is a bit dingy, could do with a lick of paint. Restaurant is a bit stark, but clean.

Really good place to stay. Central to EVERYTHING in Paihia and would stay again.

Overall, the facility is well appointed and comfortable. The deluxe room was spacious and fit our family of 4 fine. Blackout curtains were great in keeping the light out. The room was clean & tidy. Wifi was surprisingly good too! The tropical garden made for a nice bit of privacy though I think with some more maintenance, it could really be a stunning outlook from the private patio.

In room 802, a couple of niggly things were annoying. The mattress protectors had a plastic-like texture to them so every time someone rolled over in their bed, it was quite load. The fridge wouldn't get very cold despite being on it's coldest setting and shut firm. The cupboards & drawers could do with some soft-close fixings because they close with quite a bang! Would be great if there was a designated smoking area away from the rooms. The smoking neighbours got really annoying at one point as our room smelled of their cigarette smoke for a while.

Met all our needs

Had a great stay at the Scenic Hotel. The grounds were lovely and we felt like we were staying in Cairns with all the tropical planting. Our room was surprisingly roomy and had everything we needed. Beds were comfy and the shower was really good - two things that I find important when staying away from home. The pool was good and the location was great. We were able to have dinner in Paihia town and walk home afterwards along the beachfront - very relaxing.

Our check in person was quite slow and talked quietly, but not a complaint - just an observation to perhaps have someone a bit easier to hear on a Friday afternoon/evening when I imagine lots of people are checking in.

So good to sleep on a nice mattress and the water pressure in the shower was great room had sufficient lighting and good to have the option of netflix - my grand daughter appreciated this we had dinner at the restuarant and I was really happy with my meal having breakfast offered as part of package was icing on the cake - food choice and food was great

this is not a didn't like but a wish - in booking.com I had filtered places with a heated pool and your hotel came up as providing this to find out when I checked in this wasn't the case I really liked your establishment so thanks for having us

1. Mould in air conditioner. See photos. 2. Nut allergy risk: Restaurant does not specify if “basil” = “basil pesto” or simply basil leaves. Big risk if you’re allergic to nuts. Staff did not care when we addressed this risk. Instead, staff simply said that “in New Zealand, basil means basil pesto.” Staff behaviour: 3. Noticeable antagonistic behaviour by managerial staff towards receptionist. 4. Staff asked if “that Indian guy” (referring to a receptionist) made a mistake with our dinner booking. 5. Bathroom smelled dank. When we asked for a room change, the receptionist was happy to do so. Although, worth noting that he tried asking his manager, who didn’t even look back at the receptionist as he was “busy eating his dinner”, according to the receptionist. Clear antagonisms between managerial staff and receptionists.
