Pestana Viking Beach & SPA Resort

We enjoyed the picturesque views and the walking ability surrounding the hotel. The staff was attentive and listened to our requests. Breakfasts are very good, dinners are expensive at €33 per person. We elected to eat up the street.

Our room was very hot, we ended up sleeping with the balcony door open. Regulating the temperature from the AC unit was useless and it never went below 21*C. However, listening to the waves crashing and feeling the cool air was okay with us.

We loved the position and the view from our bedroom. The bedroom was spacious and the kitchenette made it very convenient. We also enjoyed the balcony. The sauna is nice, but doesn’t get hot enough.

Breakfast was adequate, but not exciting and the lady who was on duty to make fresh omelettes on my first morning wasn’t at her station, but left the pan on the heat. I started preparing my own onions and mushrooms in the pan, but needed to add the egg and the cheese. One of the other staff members called the lady, but she had an awful attitude! She dumped way too much egg into the pan and then flung the omelette onto my plate. She grumbled to herself. It was a very unpleasant experience and I didn’t enjoy the omelette. We had the buffet supper on the first night, but found that it was way overpriced for the type of food: the sauces and desserts all used far too much flour, so they were stodgy. There was only one chocolate mousse left when my husband wanted dessert and it took the form of a really tiny serving in a tiny, narrow glass. The steam room was cold and we could not find any way to switch it on. The jacuzzi jets are too soft to have any benefit.

Not quite warm enough. Even after our heating was checked. Bedding not warm enough for the wet & cool days there (in January) Room was a bit dated - but bathroom had obviously been modernised.
