Location was lovely, rural with beautiful views
Although decor was being repainted floor boards and carpets were uneven and outdated in general areas. The road/drive into the property needs seeing to so may deep potholes that need repairing

The barman qas very sociable and informative.
On a night with few guests we were put in a very small room overlooking a staff car park. We could have been given a different room. Possibly upgraded? We would have liked breakfast but the restaurant closed at 1000hrs. We went particularly to run the local park run and didn't get back till 1005. Then we had to rush to check out 1100. We normally use travelogue for our parkrun tourism, and will probably return to them if we visit this area again.

the hotel is very nice and the staff very friendly and accommodating. The Sunday lunch was amazing.
We were awakened at 8.30am on a Sunday morning by a very noisy Bible group who took over the entire hotel. We therefore couldn't even find a quiet spot to have our coffee while we waited for our friends to arrive for lunch. Saturday night residents should be made aware of this.

Good location, nice sized room, clean and very helpful staff.
Bed was not so comfortable on this stay. Lots of doors banging from other people.
9.0 / 10.0
We stayed in Room 6 which was an excellent size. However, peeking into other rooms when they were being cleaned showed that standard rooms are smaller. Still the bed was comfortable, which is a huge thing for me. The shower was good. The bath, which were didn’t use, reminded me of a birthing pool as it was that big. This hotel loves dogs, as was shown when our two dogs were fussed and cuddled while we ate dinner on the first night. I had Beef Lasagne. What I thought was a cheese topping, turned out to be béchamel sauce. My husband had Chicken Tikka Masala, which looked like a microwave special. Day 2 was a Sunday so roast dinners only. I had gammon, which was a bit tough and the roasties could have been crisper.
Member of staff, Izzy was brilliant, along with the Irishman.
The walls are thin. I could hear our puppy barking from down the corridor.

Convenient location for a Christmas stay with relatives who live nearby. Good facilities. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfasts.
Room was too warm for us. But appreciate that other occupants may like it warmer than we do.

Would recommend anyone to stay here, particularly if accompanied by a pooch, probably THE most dog friendly hotel my Basset and I have stayed.
Paul has a fantastic team and leads by example from the front. Everyone here is on the ball and excellence in service is clearly the priority.
10/10 all round!

The Hotel is a very smart country house in the beautiful Devon Countryside away from the traffic noise. We didn't really get to try all the facilities or explore the area due to the nature of our visit but would happily go back when we have chance.
The access roads are very narrow and in poorly maintained.

Lovely staff and setting was pretty nice.
It was so noisy. The first night I had to ask to be moved at around 9:30pm as I felt like I was practically in the bar it was awful. Then on Sunday there was like some sort of band playing in the morning.

What a hidden gem! Amidst the forest. Comfortable. Friendly staff. Good food. Great value. I was so impressed that I'm looking to hold wellness and workplace productivity events inspired by the power of nature there. Thanks to Wayne, Paul and the team.
A couple of minor hiccups with one main meal were soon resolved.

The location is lovely, i wouldn’t recommend staying more than 2 nights if you don’t drive, not much to do
We had to cut our stay short.
I booked this week away for me and my dog who was diagnosed with lots of health conditions a couple weeks ago and our time is cut short so wanted a nice quiet break for us.
He’s a nervous dog and i made the hotel aware and asked to be placed in a quieter area.
Within the first hour, men in our hall set of the fire alarms, shouting also.
The next morning lots of work men had come in to do work in our hall.
My dog needs lots of rest and we wasn’t able to back into our room for around 5 hours because of all the men outside our room.
His legs are extremely swollen now, even days later, he’s exhausted.
Once we finally could go back in our room he was crying in pain, i started sobbing because this was not what i wanted for us.
I packed my things and spoke to reception, i got my money back for the two nights i wouldn’t be staying. The staff were kind but i wish i was made aware of this prior to the stay.
other people staying at the hotel did not respect my dogs “need space” jacket and would bark at him, try and talk to him which caused him more stress and anxiety.
We have never been away before, he’s only 2, and i’m gutted that a weeks break turned into a day off stress and back home and he’s suffering.
If i knew about the work done i wouldn’t have booked that week.

Lovely surroundings and clean and pretty rooms with lovely decoration and spotless linens and clean bathrooms. Our stay was made enjoyable by the friendly and professional staff who always had time to chat and help us get the most out of the hotel.
Shower was weak and carpets in stairwells and corridors very old. The private road leading to hotel
Was full of potholes and was terrible

Nothing
The shower was cold and trickled out of the head . The member of staff was informed and did nothing about it and shrugged it off with a totally unprofessional attitude . The chairs in the bar area were ripped with foam hanging out . The hotel is very shabby . No lighting in the carpark so take a torch with you .

Lovely staff and food great
Grounds and views fantastic
Dog felt loved
Could possibly do with a bit of a paint here and there and reception doesn't really do the rest of the hotel justice ( just my opinion though..,)

The room was very good and had been cleaned to a high standard. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was nice and the setting was spectacular. Some gentle music would have been more beneficial in such a lovely setting.
Our only criticism would be that the lane to and from the hotel is in need of repair and we feel this might put potential guests off from staying here. Such a shame because there are few hotels in the county like the Lord Haldon.

Room was nicely done and looked like a fairly recent refurbishment. Comfy and clean
Overall the building and communal areas are showing age, a bit run down.

Beautiful old hotel in stunning picturesque surroundings. Staff were very accommodating and friendly and the restaurant was convenient, with lovely food.
It was a little tricky to find in the dark!

Lovely superior room with seating area , bath and walk in shower , complimentary fruit, water and coffee pods , comfy bed , great value for money

Comfortable, warm and great value for money. Fantastic views over open countryside. Good selection at breakfast and cooked breakfast was tasty. Convenient location for Exeter and only 10 minutes from the M5.
Access road could do with some TLC.

The grounds were beautiful. Lovely place.
We stayed in room 3. There was a constant noise like a fan as running somewhere. It was hard to sleep with it going on.
The bar and restaurant closed far too early. 12 of us book the restaurant for 8pm. Only to be told the chef finished at 8.30. And could we all hurry up and order. Could not have desert. As the chef when home. The bar shut at 10 pm sharp. We order drinks. Then was told to move to our side the bar to finish our drinks. Then turn the light off. On us. At 10,30.

Food was good very hot, room was very large but a bit tired ceiling needed painting and wallpaper was peeling in places
9.0 / 10.0
The food served at the Hotel is excellent. Fabulous breakfasts, lots of choice the food was hot and tasty.
We ate in the restaurant every evening and the food was fabulous, the Chef is very talented and skilled.
Nothing really, if I was being picky there was a water leak in the village which caused a few problems trying to re-route and there are a few narrow country lanes as an alternative. Maybe reception could have placed a notice on the front desk so guests could have been aware of the problem beforehand.

got a late booking
hotel looked pretty tired. needs a facelift since it is part of a major chain
8.0 / 10.0
View was superb, car parking good, food very good (both dinner and breakfast) although restaurant looks a little ‘tired’ and you feel like your table is in a corridor. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the views/walks around were so peaceful. Would stay again next time we are in the area!
Decor a little tired in places, restaurant doesn’t feel like you are going somewhere ‘special’, however everywhere extremely clean.
