Disappointing overall but great staff, excellent cleanliness and comfortable rooms.

The staff were lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was nice and the rooms were large and immaculately clean. Comfortable beds and a very good value laundry service. It is also a great location in the heart of Constantia. The gardens were well kept.

Unfortunately the pool area is in poor repair, the pool itself needs refurbishing and although the pool guy tried to keep it clean it was surrounded by trees so constantly had leaves and tree debris in it. Also the surroundings were very dusty and not cleaned during our 3 week stay. One of the problems was the huge building site next door. We were not informed of this before our stay so noise and dust were a constant Monday to Friday from 7.30am until 6pm. There were also 2 private events during our stay which meant the garden and pool area were out of bounds for us guest house residents for the entire day and evening on a consecutive Friday and Saturday. The weddings were very noisy with one in particular being very loud until midnight. Again, we had not been informed in advance. The communal areas felt very tired and a bit neglected. Even our room balcony was surrounded by dying plants and was obviously very noisy and dusty due the building work next door.

It was a mess

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience. Just some days before we wanted to check in we got a massage. The hotel manager told us that due to a geyser burst the roof is damaged. It was high season so it was very hard to find another accommodation for us and the hotel didn't cover the additional costs for the short-term reebooking. It was all a mess. They said that we can cancel and get a refund but we did not receive our money back up to this day!!! Things can happen but the hotel handled it very poorly ...

The venue was in a great spot, with outstanding views and facilities. Staff couldn't do enough for us and had great sense of humour. Facilities were all in good order.

The Southern Light Guest House is a lovely place in the Countryside of Cape Town, perfect to discover Wine Estates of Constantia, ravines to the Table Mountain, visiting Botanical Garden, Cape Peninsula, and others more. The apartment is light in a beautiful purple lila style with a view into the Garden. Ohne must emphasize the pleasant and cordial hospitality, and, last not least, a perfect SA breakfast.

Fantastic stay. Incredible breakfast

We loved our whole stay. Better than expected. Serious value for money. Located close to the Constantia wine farms. Beautiful rooms. Great service. And the breakfast was better than any place I've been to. Massive breakfast and seriously high quality. Would definitely stay here again when we are back in the area.

Peaceful, beautiful, restful, we felt safe

Beautiful setting with a verdant garden and views of Table Mtn. Quiet. Not far from Kirstenbosch Nat Bot Garden. Breakfast was very nice and served with excellence. The innkeeper is extremely helpful and kind-she goes the extra mile. We would definitely stay there again.

Not near any local retail where we could walk to pick up simple grocery items but it worked out after all

Beautiful location and lovely garden. Milo the property cat is very friendly 🐈 The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great!

We had issues with no not water in our shower on arrival; maintenance guy had to fix it twice. Water pressure really low. They hosted a wedding in the grounds one evening which was a bit noisy.

Loved the serenity & convenience of location

Great location for that part of Cape Town. Great service & friendly staff. The grounds are beautiful & the parking is easily accessible.

Airconditioning is lacking & in the height of summer that is an issue As a business traveller - the late start of the breakfast service - 07:00 is an issue as to beat the insane traffic around there you need to leave before 7:00. Not an issue if you are a tourist!

Awful

Location. The housekeeper was very friendly.

Guests couldn’t get in so for an hour they hooted, called out and rang the buzzer. This was at 10pm at night. We phoned the manager and got no response. Not even a call after to check that we were ok. So the security also a concern. The bedroom smelled like a drain as the bathroom, open plan cleaned with a very strong cleaner. I couldn’t sleep as this smell was overwhelming. People smoked outside our room and left dirty ashtray on the table. Again no management of the property. We had 2 single duvets in a double bed?? The floor boards not in a good condition.

Disappoint stay. We checked out early.

The property and location were fine. Unfortunately, there are major building works on the property next door which were noisy early in the morning.

There appears to be no notification that this property is strictly halal on the Booking.com site. The first indication that no consumption of alcohol is permitted on the premises is when you check-in. There is no chance of crispy bacon and a pork banger with a full English breakfast! The pool was green, and the tennis court is an overflow car park. There was no sign of any management representatives on site during the stay.

Staff claimed that they could not light the fireplace in the morning, because they had to wait for management to bring them some matches.

Won't be back - lack value for money

Staff were friendly, accommodating an early arrival. Matrass quality good. Beautiful gardens.

The breakfast leaves you with a no value for your money feeling. No bacon, no sausages, Staff not that friendly. No teaspoon to stir coffee. We forgot our two point adapter to charge our phone, took 30 mins for them to eventually find an adapter. Pillows, one continental and one normal. Very uncomfortable to sleep on a continental pillow.

Established at an amazing location, very quite for anyone that likes a bit of peace and away from bustles and noises of the city, safe and clean hotel that gives you that home away from home kinda feeling. Lovely staff, very helpful and accommodating. will definitely come back.

Breakfast service. Pool area. Outdoor terrace. Quiet and beautiful green surroundings. Good parking. Comfortable big bed. Friendly staff. Sweet cat. Lamps provided during loadshedding. There is maintanance going on.

Check in chaotic. Keys not fitting on wardrobes. Safe could not be used due to missing key. Not allowed to drink alcohol. Its a halal guesthouse. Dark corridor with steps to get to the room. Dstv not working because of latest storm. It suites arabic businessmen more then european holidaypeople. Rooms can be noisy when they talk on their phones on speaker. Tenniscourt can still not be used due to fallen trees. Overpriced compared with other options in area.

Honestly…. The cat. He was super friendly and gave us a much better welcome than from the host when we arrived.

The whole property was very tired and in need of a lot more than a lick of paint. Website photos not representative of present day. Room clean but dodgy door lock Carpets threadbare throughout. Dirty pool area/cracked walls. Tennis court unusable with overgrown trees. Poor breakfast offering. Owners unhelpful/unwilling to take responsibility for messed up booking. We left a day early and would never return.

Everything. From the minute we arrived. The maid that let us in didn’t even know we had a booking, after sitting in a Dismal waiting area and trying to contact management that had gone awol she finally said she only had 2 rooms not together and not what we had booked. But that was all she could offer.the gardens are unkept, the property is tired and has clearly been bought as an investment from a Dubai person, that has no interest in the actual running of a b and b. It’s very sad as it is in one of the prettiest parts of Cape Town surrounded by beautiful vineyards. That was the other problem they did not allow you to drink on the property. I did manage to finally talk to the said manager after leaving numerous messages, but her attitude was far from friendly and she actually hung up.

Southern Light Country House is located in the quiet and leafy area of Constantia. Our bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The breakfasts were good. This accommodation suited our site seeing of the city and access to good restaurants. We had secure parking.

Our room, 6, is a most peculiar shape, and the decor souless. It would be really helpful to have enough counter space for the usual toiletries.

Great stay in a beautiful area.

Beautiful country house in a really nice area of Cape Town (Constantia Heights) with only a couple (7 if I'm right) of really nice rooms. Two rooms have their own balcony/terrace and three have outside seating overlooking the nice garden. The pool is very nice (with some TLC it would have been excellent) and catches shade from the trees by the end of the afternoon. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is nice too.

Not much actually but if I have to mention one thing it would be the fan. Ours was noisy (and partly broken) so not very helpful on those warm nights.

Literally no staff besides the housekeeper (who was very pleasant) but no other official staff in sight. We were basically left to our own devices- no help or welcome at all. Did not see one other staff member for the duration of our stay. Very strange. Great pity because this place has a lot of potential. The grounds are very nice.

the rooms were clean and beds comfortable

the manager was MIA, we didn’t get shown around, there was no milk or the array of advertised drinks in our room and no one around to ask and we were given no way to contact anyone whilst there. The tennis courts are not maintained and not useable. Once we were in our room, it felt as though there was nowhere we could go.
