Appartement Ombrine

Great location, short walk to port, with restaurants and shops. Free parking inside garage nearby. View of sea. Washing machine inside apartment, and a tiny dishwasher. Generally well stocked with pots, pans, glassware etc. Good communication from the rental agency prior to travel and a friendly staff member who met us to hand over the keys.

Very poor WiFi. Apartment is hot inside, even at night. No air-conditioning, so need to open windows, which slam shut in the wind. Not suitable for young children or anyone with reduced mobility. Steep steps from the street up to the apartment on first floor. The communal entrance stairs were dirty and not cleaned during the week we spent there. Toilet is located in entrance hall, with no sink, so you have to traverse the lounge and the bedroom to wash hands in the bathroom, which does not have a toilet. Adding a small sink inside the toilet cubicle would be appreciated (and more hygienic). Bathroom: The shower is inside a bathtub which has steep sides and there is no non-slip mat to put inside the bath. Water pressure in shower very poor and shower curtain could do with a wash. Sofa bed was not comfortable after a couple of nights. Overall, the apartment layout (having to go through the bedroom to access the bathroom) means it is not suitable for two couples, as there is no privacy. No storage in bedroom, so clothes have to be stored in the hallway behind a curtain, with the cleaning equipment. In the small kitchen there are stove-top rings to heat food, and a microwave, but no oven. Not a problem for us as we ate out most nights anyway. Swimming pool is a short walk away down the street, inside another building, which was disappointing, as we did not use it as often as we usually would. There is no seating or shade by the pool and it's not suitable for young children as the main pool is very deep, with no hand rails. The shallow pool was very dirty when we were there so we did not use it. If we had realised the location of the pool, we would not have booked this apartment. The apartment overall is in a great location, however is a little worn and dated. Not worth the price we paid, compared to a previous stay on the island.

The Appartment is right opposite a nightclub which played music from 11pm - 5am every night. Sounds from the club and peoples’ voices as they come and go are amplified by the sea wall and our sleep was very interrupted. Such a shame as it’s a nice Appartment and the host is very helpful, but the photos give no idea about the location and there were no reviews on booking.com when I booked. I hesitated to write this review myself, but in the end holidays are expensive and I wouldn’t want others to have the same experience.
