About this house rental

Located just on the outskirts of Gordes, one of the most beautiful villages of France, Les Murets is an enchanting property that sits on seven acres of lavender, thyme and rosemary fields with sweeping views of the Luberon Mountains, a swimming pool, tennis court and pool house. Just fifteen miles east of Avignon, and forty miles from the Mediterranean, it is conveniently located within an hour's drive of the Marseille airport and the TGV train station in Avignon. The interior of the house has been completely gutted and decorated in soothing, comfortable and casually elegant neutral tones. The kitchen has a large island that is always command central, with a wonderful gathering place for people who want to socialize or help with dinner preparations. The terrace, with its large wrought iron table is the perfect place to enjoy long, leisurely dinners, overlooking the beautiful mountains in the distance and the valley below.

Arriving at Les Murets

When you arrive at Les Murets, you will be greeted first by our wonderful caretaker who lives down the street, and second, by the incredible smell of lavender that permeates the house's thick stone walls and causes just about everyone to say, 'Ahhh ....' as they walk through the door. It's a welcome feeling, especially after a long trip. Our caretakers, who love the property as their own and have been watching over it for the last twenty years, will show you around the house and property and go over how things work. If you are a little too jet lagged to take it all in, there is a detailed manual in English that you can pore over at your leisure, as you sit down and sip the wine that has been awaiting your arrival. If you would like a sneak preview of all the things to do at Les Murets, you may enjoy reading through our top 100 activities, which we will send you ahead of time, along with a suggested two-week itinerary that we have carefully curated and edited over the years.

Enjoying the Property

We jokingly say that Les Murets is like a mini resort. We're fortunate to have a beautiful large pool with ample space for swimming and sunbathing. There is also a private tennis court with a quick dry surface. And, for those wanting the full Peter Mayle experience, we offer a 'boules court' - but you must buy your own pastis (unless you request it from us ahead of time, in which case we are happy to accommodate). In addition to our favorite 100 activities, we probably enjoy most just sitting outside on the terrace, overlooking the Luberon Valley and the mountains in the distance, eating a delicious meal of fresh ingredients washed down with plenty of local wine from one of our favorite vineyards, in the company of friends and family. We spend much of our time on the terrace, from the time that it is bathed in sunshine in the morning, to the late evening when long shadows cover the lavender field and the Luberon mountain turns purple in the sunset.

Getting the Most out of your Stay

You could be perfectly happy staying home the whole time, but for those who want to be a little more active, we have put together a two week itinerary with suggestions for every single day, from morning to evening, based on market days, restaurant closings and other scheduling details. You really don't need to think about anything -- just get in the car and go. This way, you will enjoy the planning and the reliving stages almost as much as the actual trip. We also can make arrangements for catering meals, delivery upon your arrival, a private chef, babysitting, chauffeur, and many other services – all provided at an additional cost. Just let us know with at least one month's notice and we will make the arrangements for you.
