About this house rental

Starfish Cottage is a remodeled, cute as a button cottage for two wrapped in beach house decor. Originally built in1960 this home has been gutted and completely redone. Hard wood floors, vaulted ceilings, screened porch, covered parking. Located in historic downtown Darien. Quiet location. Secluded backyard shaded by live oaks and a screened porch perfect for morning coffee or afternoon beverages. Full kitchen and cozy living area. Close to Fort King George. Walk or bicycle to restaurants and local market. Discover Darien, a picturesque small town where the term "Golden Isles" was coined. Located along the Georgia Coast and Altamaha Scenic Byway, Darien offers striking "see forever" views across one of the most important tidal estuarine environments in the world. Just a 10 minute drive from the Sapelo Island ferry. Darien is a great birding destination. Kayak our rivers and immerse yourself in the history of Georgia's second planned city founded in 1736. Darien is centrally located along the coast making any destination along the Georgia coast an easy day trip. Beaches of Jekyll and Saint Simons Islands, remote barrier islands, Savannah, Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge, Sapelo Island, the Okefenokee and the Altamaha River are just some of many places of interest. Because we have our own shrimp fleet restaurants in and around Darien serve the freshest seafood on the coast.
Darien/McIntosh County, immersed in history and surrounded in natural beauty. Explore our rivers, estuaries, undeveloped barrier islands, beaches and natural habitats. We boast one of the world's largest estuarine systems. Darien/McIntosh County is situated in a beautiful, unspoiled, ecological location that is virtually unrivaled in the state for the natural habitats that abound. Here is ‘Nature’s Favorite Coast!” The tidewaters are the nursery of the ocean…tiny shrimp, crustaceans and all species of fish! Spring finds dozens of baby dolphins in the Intra-coastal Waterway, learning to fish with their mothers and pods. Over 350 species of migratory birds can be found here making it a premier birding area. While we know you will find your favorite place in history whether it be Fort King George, Ashantilly or the Old Jail, Butler Plantation and rice fields along with the Huston House mansion, historic old churches, cemeteries, and tabby ruins on the waterfront; our best advice is sure to be dining on local cuisine at one of our restaurants, events or festivals. Sapelo Island makes for a wonderful day trip, but you must plan ahead for the tour and ferry trip. Don't miss Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge. Harris Neck NWR provides premier nesting, foraging, and wintering habitat for a diversity of wildlife. Signature species include threatened wood storks, which nest in a large colony on Woody Pond, and the colorful and uncommon painted bunting. Immerse yourself in a world where flowers bloom in every season, birds and butterflies abound and enjoy the small coastal town interests and environment.

The location of this house is great. Darien is a small town with shrimping fleet. Restaurants and a few bars are with-in walking distance. St. Simons Island is about 20 minute drive and Savanah little more than an hour. The house is on a back street and the neighbors are friendly. Jan responds to texts and phone calls right away and is very easy to talk with and helpful.

When we opened the front door to this house, we were pleasantly surprised. A lot of times, pictures of houses make them seem a little better than they are. Not this house....it's better than the pictures show. Little surprises everywhere! The shower in the bathroom isn't pictured but is spa like! The screen porch out the back door is delightful. The high ceilings in the house were not expected. Even the plates in the kitchen were special. Darien looks to be making a comeback. We had dinner at a few of the local restaurants and they were great! Day trips to St. Simons and Jekyll Islands were just a short drive down 17. So very convenient. The house is in a very quiet neighborhood and easy to find just a few blocks of the main road. We chose this house because we wanted to visit the islands but didn't want to pay the island prices. This house was a great alternative. You won't be disappointed!

Clean, remodeled, small cottage perfect for one or two parents and 2 kids. Darien is a little sleepy, but location is close to Sapalo and other beaches.
