This was my second stay at the surfhouse, and I came back after an event nearby with a few extra days to spare. Espinho is such a calm little town, just the right mix of relaxed local life, shops, markets and other things to do, and of course the beach and waves. They offer daily surf lessons for all levels, with good equipment and very fair prices. The surfhouse has such a great vibe; the owners are incredibly kind and welcoming, and it always seems to attract the nicest mix of travellers. Thank you again - I hope to be back!
As a pragmatic traveller, the only small improvements I could think of would be a few more hooks in the rooms and bathrooms, maybe a small desk and stool in the single rooms, and slightly lower kitchen tables for more comfortable meals. Nothing major at all, just little things that would make an already lovely stay even more comfortable.

I originally booked just 3 nights here, but within hours of arriving I knew I had to stay longer. I extended my stay on the spot, and ended up staying 2 full weeks because I loved it so much.
This hostel is unlike anywhere I’ve stayed before—calm, warm, and genuinely welcoming. The staff don’t just do their jobs, they truly care. They go above and beyond in every way to make sure you’re comfortable and happy, and they create an atmosphere that feels like home from the moment you walk in.
Espinho itself is a hidden little paradise—beautiful beaches, a relaxed vibe, and the kind of place where you can really slow down and soak it all in. Pair that with the hospitality here, and it’s an experience I’ll never forget.
If you’re looking for somewhere special, not just another hostel, this is it. I can’t recommend it highly enough—and I can’t wait to come back again and maybe, I may even try surfing.

Location and friendly people
Nothing, we knew the kitchen would be small and shared. The other guests were equally as friendly

Common room and dorm. smelled dank/musty/mouldy (maybe ditch the red lounge and the carpet squares);
Cleaning seems to be sporadic and of varying quality (buy vacuum cleaner & retrain staff).
