The Bay Colwell

Very nice little bungalows. And well equipped.

This is due to my own preference. But I don't like memory foam mattresses as I over heat. So the beds was a no no for me. Also they are firm when I like a medium to soft mattress.

Lovely cottages done to a good standard, great location and good value for money! But there are some valid things missing making it that good value.

The cottages are a self catering accommodation option, however there are some basics I feel missing that make is currently a good rating but if fixed would make it excellent. WiFi, there is NO WiFi in the cottages. Making it pretty difficult for it to be accommodation you can work from. Especially as the cellular signal on site is poor. There is WiFi in the reception area, but it offers no privacy so no good for homeworkers. No WiFi means no smart TVs. Digital/cable only. The accommodation has no toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, hand wash) but does have hair dryer. It has a fully equipt kitchen that offers dish washer tablets but no washing up liquid or clothes. No salt, pepper, sugar and tea and coffee. I would say this accommodation is child friendly but not infant friendly. There are extra charges for using high chairs and travels cots. None of the cottages come equipt with a bath (all showers) and no infant baths so you need to bring your own.

Very helpful and welcoming staff. Hot tub was lovely. The cottage was really well-equipped, and spacious.

It's not a negative, just a neutral suggestion to make the accommodation even better: hooks installed on the bathroom door would be great, to have somewhere to hang bathrobes/towels. 😀

The fact that check in is very late 4pm and the facilities close at 5 so really you can not enjoy that day of the facilities and check out is super early 10 am and facilities open at 10 so really and truly you don’t get to enjoy them on those days.

Our biggest complaint is the floor was filthy. We asked them to clean the floors and they said they would and didn’t. They then told us that they did - which was completely untrue! We had to go back again and they finally did it - it was only an OK job. Feet and floor towels were black after an hour of walking around (we showed them photos). It felt icky staying here. I also noticed under a bed an old mentos/ sweet from the last guests - gross. It’s not too much to ask for a clean rental and they weren’t very apologetic either. If this was sorted, it’d be great.

We found everything to be fine no complaints at all only one criticism was the bathroom grouting needed attention!

Bad White goods. Very sub standard couch, no internet. Even mobile data doesn't work, absolutely no internet reception. Toilet door broken, brittle shower handles. Overall not a value for money.

the ability to recycle items a separate bin in the kitchen would have been useful although there was an absence (exc for glass) of recycling facilities in the general rubbish area.

The property was clean and spacious (for 4 people) with a small deck for sitting outside. It was convenient to the ferry at Yarmouth, and just a 3 minute walk to Colwell Bay and the coastal path. Provided linen was good, with large bath sheets. We had an issue with water not draining from the shower. However, the staff were efficient and it was fixed in no time.

There were only 3 dishwasher tablets supplied for our 4 night stay. Any more had to be purchased. There were no tongs in the kitchen, and the kitchen knives could do with sharpening. More hooks in the bathroom would be appreciated. There were no mirrors in the bedrooms, which meant when using the hair dryer, you had to stand in the living room, in front of the decorative mirror.

The garden was a little on the messy side, leaves and grass could have done with a cut. Don’t believe I booked a disabled cottage so that was a little odd with low sink.

No wi fi is ok but no signal whatsoever unacceptable, leaving my disabled husband to go for a walk with the dog and he couldn’t call me while I was on the walk is unacceptable, people coming to our garden without knocking to check hot tub every morning, pet friendly cottage and the only sofa in the living room was dirty should be a leather or something you can clean or wipe

Disappointed that there was no Wi-fi in the accommodation. Dishwasher did not work well. No extra crockery/cutlery - only four of everything; we were fine (only two of us) but any more people and we would have struggled ... Would have been useful to have some soap, salt and pepper too!

The jacuzzi was a plus with the children

Great location, nice and quiet, fairly well equiped kitchen. Good value for money overall. The weather was not too hot during our stay and the temerature in the rooms was comfortable, I wonder if hotter the lack of airconditioning or any fans could be a problem.

No WIFI, 100% unexeptable in 2025. The beds could've been better, the mattresess probably need changing. No water in the fridge upon arrival and the coffee shop on site on sold water in cans!!!

Location was great, close to the beach but quiet. Lodge was clean, well furnished and to a good quality.

No local shop for basic provisions, which weren't provided at the Bay. Some stains on bed linen and dried on food stains on crockery. Cottage seemed more 'average' than 'luxury'. No instructions for use of hot tub.

The property was in an excellent location, nice and quiet too. Spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. Short walk to the beach and cafe. Good restaurant within walking distance.

Hot tub area as mentioned in other reviews could do with some plants or something to brighten the area up. Hot tub itself was lovely.

Awful signal in the rooms and the sockets didn’t seem to charge the phone very quickly. Very peculiar so don’t bank on having any contact with the outside world.
