Very well-placed hostel

Friendly staff, good space, clean and rather comfortable. It's right at the foot of the Sky tower, so incredible location!

It was very hot in the whole place, and the fan in the dorm was loud so didn't help that much for sleeping!

A place for backpackers who enjoy cooking

Everything was sparkling clean and the kitchen was well equipped and organized with plenty storage! Location is great. Facilities are large enough to accommodate everyone in cooking, cleaning, showering, toilet and everything else basically. Good value for money for location and the state of everything. The twin room was basic but had what we needed (fan, trash can, clothes hanging). It is reasonably quiet, with some alley noise from nearby ventilation and some traffic noise. Nice tips and info pieces are pasted all around the place.

The beds are really uncomfy, to the point where it harms a good night's sleep. The window latch was broken and it was really hard to open/close it (and it never closed all the way, which is annoying in such a location). Overall the place is maintained in cleaning and organizing, but looks worn and in need of a minor makeover (peeling paint, water from shower head going everywhere etc).

As a middle-aged woman, I have stayed at every level of accommodation - many and most being top end eg Hilton, Novotel etc - throughout the world, and I would happily choose to stay at Attic Backpackers again over any of them. What an awesome space; so clean and friendly, with everything I needed for a restful and quiet three-night stay, and an ideal location to base all of my day trips happening out of Auckland. I stayed in a mixed, ten-bed dorm with a shared bathroom. Such a fun spot to be in. Staff and guests were all so kind and helpful, and I look forward to hopefully going back one day. Thank you!

My first hostel experience and it felt like the quintessential stay! A super central location had Auckland on my doorste

A super central location that was walking distance to so many things, including lots of restaurants, supermarket and city cites. There was lots of staff recommendations and advice around the place which was great. Also big clean bathrooms were awesome.

This was the first hostel I’ve ever stayed in and initially I felt nervous finding my way around.

Good stay for a short budget

I stayed for a night only. It was alright!. The ladies shared bathroom was a dream compared to other hostels I stayed in in NZ, spacious and always clean. The bed was also surprisingly comfy.

Good for the price!

The staff was amazingly sweet, and got all the information i needed. Had a little problem and they helped me. Really cheap & made a friend for future travels.

The heat was unbearable in the room, fan wasn't enough. Than some discomforting smell from a guest in our room (so nothing the accomendation could do something about)

Cheap, no air con hot rooms, clean-ish, good location.

No air con, room was like a hot box! Noisey outside, odd smells coming from outside. Kitchen closed 10-12pm for cleaning which wasn't cleaned very well for the amount of time, also time frame wasn't a good time to be closed.

Terrible

Paid for a private room, door was missing the bottom three inches which meant I was kept up all night by the light. Staff didn’t care and were rude. Bed was a child’s bunk bed with a terrible mattress. Sounded like a factory with the noice from all the ac units outside. All I wanted was a nights sleep as I travelled through but that was too much to ask for apparently.

Good hostel to touch down in Auckland and begin a working holiday visa!

The staff and guests were friendly, the facilities were great including a decent bathroom, equipped kitchen space, and a balcony. Storage lockers in the communal area.

There was no specific provision in the laundry room where you could do your own laundry, rather than using the washing machine/tumble dryer. The dynamic pricing meant adding on an extra night was notably more costly than I would have liked. I prefer a locker to be located in the room where I am staying.

Nothing. I don’t know why anyone would rate this place lesser than 9. Been here twice and had consistently good experience. It’s centrally located, clean, and perfect. Don’t doubt yourself to stay here.

Overall great hostel

Everything is clean.Kitchrn is amazing apart from the knifes, there are spices everywhere you can use. Showers and toilets are clean. Staff is super friendly. You get to know amazing people there on the terrace and the kitchen

Lovely experience in Auckland!

Lovely hostel to spend a night in Auckland! The staff was very welcoming, and our 6-beds room was spacious, with enough distance from bed to bed. The bathroom was equipped with everything (towels can be rented for 5$). The thing I liked the most are the tips from the staff put on the walls around the place, very cute detail! I haven't used the kitchen but the other common spaces were nice and there was no disturbance during the night.

The fan was very dirt, couldn’t feel the air. Just 3 fan for 10 beds. It’s not enough at all. Have to add on more fans for summer.

Good

The location is very good, it's around the corner from the Sky Tower, and close to everything. The rooms were fine, the bed comfortable, and the kitchen well equipped. It has a terrace, a room to watch TV, and also a room to chat, play the guitar, and drink.

The only thing I did not like was the treatment of some at the reception, and the smell of food on the terrace.

Not welcoming. No one said welcome or even talked to.

Location was good.

A bit strict on there rules. Wasn’t really a welcome feeling to it, more like business as usual. Really not welcoming especially, when you see pictures of criminals wanted by the police plastered all over the main door. Made me feel unsafe.

Perfect hostel in city center. Highly recommend!

The location is perfect, it’s few minutes from main Queen Street. Also, there’s a nice coffee shop downstairs called Remedy. The staff were very friendly and always helping. There’s everything you need in this hostel. Highly recommend! Best wishes from Lithuania!

The only thing is the wifi, everytime you have to enter password. And it disconnects from mobile in a few minutes if you’re not using it.

Great on a budget

I had a single room. The room was very clean and spacious enough for me. Location close to sky city bus stop, which was all I needed. Was also close enough to everything else, supermarket etc. I slept okay. I could have slept better, but there was a noisy ?aircon unit just outside my window. Showers were good, bathroom clean. Didn't really use the kitchen so cannot comment on that. I would stay here again.

Great Hostel! Much better than some others in Auckland.

I don’t understand why the ratings for this hostel aren’t higher compared to the competition. I was also in the YMCA and K road city travelers hostels and the attic is just better by far. The staff is super friendly, it’s very clean and has lots of facilities. You can really tell they put some thought into making this place traveler-friendly. The kitchen and common areas are spacious and again much more things than in a more standard hostel.

Only major annoyance is that the kitchen is closed for cleaning from 10am to 12. I understand cleaning is necessary, but maybe start only at 10:30? Or clean with two people so you’re twice as fast? The beds could be a bit better designed. Like even a small shelf for the top bunk would make life up there easier. (But again the other hostels are worse!)

Superb

Friendly and helpful staff. Various instructions around the building also helped me get up to speed. The facilities were clean and well-kept.

It was cold in the bathroom, and the bunk bed was quite low so I banged my head on it.
