A good stop off

It is a lovely house with interesting art and decor

I requested a place with car parking and this came up - it does not have any parking available.

Douai is a lovely little town with good restaurants. Not far off the autoroute.

Breakfast was excellent, choice of continental or full English, croissants, jam, cake. Hosts spoke English and were very friendly and welcoming. Accomodation was clean, spacious and well equipped.

Difficult to locate but free street parking right outside accomodation. The satnav takes you right outside but we didn't notice the plaque on the wall of the entrance door as it was dark at the time. Obvious once you see it

No room at the Inn, no help with a room elsewhere!

The location was so close to city center, it would have been wonderful had we been able to stay there.

I regret having to give such a poor rating as we were never allowed to step inside. While in France, I booked the Belgian hotel for two nights. I had glitches with the booking site which kept switching from Dutch to English to French. It also kept reverting back to the start date for my prior reservation. I thought that I had made the correct dates stick but apparently not. The hotel perceived that we were no shows for what they thought was the first night's stay thus cancelled the entire booking. We showed up at nearly midnight after a long day's drive. It was very cold outside, we were exhausted and the hotel clerk would not let us in to resolve our dilemna. She hung up on us. The hotel had sent out a cancellation notice by email which we did not receive that day. My major complaint was the indifferent response we had from the clerk when we were stranded and bedless in December weather in a country that shuts up tight at night outside Brussels.

A beautiful house and a lovely welcome from the owner and her husband. Despite being in the town centre it was very quiet. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was exceptional. Both our hosts were very kind and helpful.

We have never experienced such wonderful service, the owners were very welcoming and the residence was very sophisticated, tasteful, comfortable and clean. Fantastic breakfast also, just perfect. Highly recommend!!
