Lake Chelan is not your average lake. Resting at the foot of the rugged peaks of the North Cascades, this long finger of water points like a loadstone to a truly isolated parcel of America. Though the lake is 55 miles long, you can only drive half its length. Beyond the end of the road, snowcapped peaks rise over 9,000 feet from the lakeshore and thick evergreens cover the mountainsides-perfect for hiking purists.



There is, however, an outpost of civilization at the upper end of the lake. The tiny village of Stehekin is accessible only by boat or floatplane, and a must-see when you visit WorldMark Lake Chelan Shores. If it's pristine beauty and a multiplicity of outdoor activities you're searching for, head for this deep, clear, mountain lake sparkling in the sun.

Banjo Creek Farms
Visit a real working farm. Activities include panning for gold, a petting farm, spa and body shop, wine tasting and shopping.


Slidewaters
This water logged playground features eight waterslides, rapids, hot tub and pool, and a park and volleyball courts. Open: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. daily Memorial Day through Labor Day (please note that the park closes at 6 p.m. weekdays from late May through mid-June).


Tsillan Cellars
One of the area's many fine wineries is Tsillan (pronounced Chelan) Cellars, which offers a fine selection of red, white and dessert wines.


Lady of the Lake
Tour the length of Lake Chelan, which extends 55 miles into the heart of the Cascade Mountain Range, onboard the Lady of the Lake.
