Gordon House - Kettering

Beds were comfortable and the location was good for where we needed to go.

Bathroom and shower could be updated, sofa wasn't great. But those were minor things really.

We did not stay at Gordon street as planned on the 3rd July. I have emailed the host the day before my scheduled arrival for information of check-in details. The host did not send any check-in details until the morning of our arrival (4 hrs before our arrival time) only to inform us that our booked accommodation was unavailable. After texted the host, I was informed that they have upgraded us to another location "21 Edinburgh road" further away from town, It caused a lot of anxiety for me and my friends on the day. When asked if it's okay to be bumped to another place, I informed the host that this was not ideal as we chose the location to be near our friend whom we are visiting. The host offered to cancel our bookings but money had already been taken from my account on the 23rd June. The procedure of cancellation from booking.com clearly states that no refund after a certain date and there's also a cancellation fee. It caused a lot of anxiety when the host refused to answer the phone call and the only communication was through text. Reluctantly we accepted the new place. The check-in details was sent via booking.com at 14:25hr and SMS message was not sent until 15:25hr. On arrival, although the place looked clean enough in the kitchen/living room, the handrail was oily and the whole place feels dusty. On the day of departure which is the next day, we heard someone trying to break into the house - it was the cleaner who arrived at 920a.m (check out time was not until 10a.m). The host did not communicate to the cleaner that they have guests staying overnight. We, unfortunately, could not rate our experience as good. For £149 a night, for four adults, we would have expected a better experience than poor communication, being "upgraded" to a less desirable location last minute. I do not recommend it.

Clean and tidy. Handy to have tea and coffee provided.

Occasional noise from local residents, only a problem with the windows open.
