The perfect hotel for a stay in Lille

This is the second Mama Shelter I've stayed in, so I knew what to expect. The hotel is really nice with fun design. The staff were great and really informative. It's in a great location, walking distance from a lot of good places so I'd definitely stay here again.

Cool and artsy hotel, great for a weekend trip!

It’s a cool hotel, funky and artsy with a good breakfast. Especially the fresh juices, croissants and coffee! They have entertainment at night as well but on the 5th floor you don’t hear any noise.

We wanted a pre-dinner drink but the service was very slow. Rooftop is closed during winter time.

Ros very clean and the hotel close to Lille stetion

Not enough facilities, world have been good to have tea/coffee facilities / a kettle in room. Felt very studentish so probably better for someone in late teens or early 20s. Lacked the subtle touches. Breakfast very very average.

Central + lovely choice, only let down was the pillows!

The atmosphere is nice: the lobby, the rooms, the restaurant. Good beds. Good location in the centre

The airconditioning did not work in one room, and it was still hot in the other room too. There was no water pressure for the showers at all

Quirky Simplicity

We loved this quirky hotel with its fun decor. The room was simple but had everything we needed, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The shower had great pressure, and the wifi worked perfectly throughout the property. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although there was a DJ playing in the restaurant later that night, we heard no noise from our second-floor room. The bar and restaurant were great for unwinding, and while the food was good, service was occasionally slow. Breakfast was extensive and delicious, though a bit pricey. Overall, a great stay! Would definitely recommend.

Great Hotel but restaurant staff horrible

I will divide this into 2 sections. The Stay v The Restaurant The Stay Very chic rooms that are fairly spacious. The price is definitely good for what you get in France. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The only thing I would improve is to have a bottle of water in the room (which is quite normal for hotels) and to provide some tourist information for visitors near the reception. But otherwise it was great. The restaurant Now this really made me want to go lower. The Mama Shelter restaurant is definitely very excited to give you an authentic French experience filled with rudeness , unprofessional & discriminatory behaviour. When you come to France, you already prepare for this much renowned behavior / hospitality but you don’t expect it from the hotel you’re staying in. You wait 20+ minutes while they serve all other French people. When you try to call the waiter over , they pretend like they don’t see you. So I had no choice but to walk over to reception to get the lady at the front desk to help me and she was very very lovely. However, the whole experience was very very uncomfortable - why do I need to ask the receptionist to get me help to be served in the first place? The staff then tried to be ‘ nice ‘ after possibly already realising that he’s been complained about but it was a gimmick and an act. He tried to offer me a free drink for the ‘ inconvenience ‘ but then proceeded to charge me for it anyway. Very sly ! Eventually I did tell the receptionist (again who’s lovely) and she said she’ll sort that out (hopefully). Maybe the restaurant should have a sign that says ‘ French Only’ . The Arancini was horrible (the worse I’ve ever had) - but the mussels linguini was tasty except for the fact it HAD NO MUSSELS. 😂 Mussels linguini with no mussels 😂 The only saving grace at the hotel was the receptionist who tried her best and I feel sorry that she’s working in this establishment.

This is a reasonable value, quirky hotel and I would stay here again.

The breakfast was expensive but it was buffet style and there was an extensive choice of food. The hotel well located for both the old and new town. It was also an easy walk to the train station.

There were a lot of lifts and our room was quite high up. This didn't bother me but some may not have liked it.

Mama keeps you up all night with loud music!

Nice breakfast, good location, friendly staff.

The hotel offers rooms overlooking a terrace with loud music until 1am without making the rooms soundproof or warning you in advance. When complaining at the front desk, the staff simply stated that this should be mentioned in the booking process (it's not) and offered us ear plugs. Worst thing was that the 2nd night the terrace was empty due to the weather but the music was still just as loud... Reading back the reviews, there's a lot of people complaining about this and the hotel keeps promising improvements that clearly have never been implemented.

we read on other reviews that there is a DJ set at weekends, so we specifically emailed in advance and asked for a room away from the DJ - however the music was so loud that it was impossible to sleep until the music stopped post 1am

This is a great place to stay in the centre of Lille.

Such great branding, fun, really unusual, fab vibes! LOVED the chalkboard ceiling in the eating area and the old school arcade games! Staff cannot do more for you, really welcoming, and in a fantastic location to explore the city! We opted for breakfast, great selection.

Drinks in the bar are a little pricey.

perfect hotel for a weekend get away.

location was excellent, especially as we arrived by euro star which was about 5 minutes walk away. staff were lovely and very accommodating when we requested a quite room away from the bar. breakfast was delicious with a huge variety to chose from and our room was cosy and clean with super comfortable beds.

Trendy and well located hotel with nice breakfast

The location is very nice for a concert at L'Aeronef, some shopping... We had some delicious cocktails and a nice dinner at the hotel-bar (reservation is needed!). The room was spacious, nicely decorated and clean. The breakfast was truly amazing with lots of options and all the bread, cakes... were homemade! There is a parking at the hotelsite (very tight entrance and places)

We slept on the first floor and when we came back from our night out, there was a DJ-set going on at the restaurant. This was extremely loud and we had trouble falling a sleep. Luckily it finished at 2 so we still had some sleep left. Information about the party in advance would have been nice so we could have asked for another room.
