Step back in time when you stay at this historic Boothbay Harbor home, a seven-bedroom cottage with a large front porch, a wonderful location, and an abundance of atmospheric Maine charm.

Built in 1909, this two-level home sits at the highest point in Boothbay, just a quarter-mile from the two rocky beaches at Barrett Park. You'll be less than one mile from the quaint shops and restaurants of downtown Boothbay Harbor and one mile from the beautiful trails of Lobster Cove Meadow Preserve and walking distance to downtown Boothbay harbor.

The living space is expansive and open, featuring rustic wood paneling, natural banisters and support beams, as well as WiFi and a new electrical system. After a day of kayaking on Linekin Bay, return home to read a novel, take a nap in the rocking chair, or practice your musical skills on the piano.

You'll find delicious lobster rolls and fresh local haddock at the nearby Boothbay Lobster Wharf, but you can also prepare meals in the full country kitchen. The adjacent dining area has seating for four.

Begin each morning at Barrett Park, where you can take an invigorating swim in the bay or sit in the shade of the gazebo. You'll come home to an outdoor shower, a private washer and dryer for your beach clothes, and perhaps even an afternoon barbecue on the lovely front porch. Fire up the gas grill and enjoy the plentiful seating as you catch up with family and friends.

Back indoors, the kids can settle in for a fun-filled movie night in front of the flatscreen TV, VCR, and DVD player (please be advised that there is no cable).

This seven-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom home will sleep a maximum of 14 people. The wood paneling continues in the charming bedrooms, which offer one queen bed, two full-size beds, and four sets of twin beds. The full bathroom has a claw foot tub and the half-bath is located in the downstairs utility room.

As one of the most beloved towns in Midcoast Maine, Boothbay Harbor is a wonderful place to enjoy the region's many outdoor wonders. Rent a kayak for the day at Tidal Transit Kayak Company, take a four-mile drive to tour the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, or observe more than 140 species of birds at the neighboring Lobster Cove Meadow Preserve.

Come and experience the Midcoast in turn-of-the-century style - book this Boothbay Harbor home today!

The 1909 cabin is very rustic but we were looking for that. The location is good. Close drive or about a mile walk to downtown and restaurants. The walk from the additional parking is more than a quick walk so be prepared. The house is noisy. Everything creaks and the lock on the bathroom door is very loud. I wear earplugs at night so it didn't bother me that much. I thought the beds were very comfortable but they also creak a lot. There are large spaces between the wood to the rooms so you can kind of see into the bathroom and bedrooms from the hallway. The kitchen did have everything we needed. The second bathroom is in the room with the washer, dryer and refrigerator and it doesn't have a ceiling, just walls around the toilet. There is a door separating the laundry room from the kitchen though. The bathtub is a clawfoot style tub so the step up and into it is quite high and the shower curtains were barely hanging on. As my husband said, the whole cabin seemed to be held together with bubblegum and rubber bands. Also, there are no comfortable chairs inside at all. They are mostly wicker chairs. After a long day of walking, I would have loved to come back to a recliner or a comfy sofa or even just a soft chair of any kind. The deck was very nice. Overall, if you're aware of what you're getting into here then you will love the cabin. The rustic part didn't bother me as much as the comfort portion-no air conditioning, no sofa or comfy chairs. So, bring ear plugs and bug spray and maybe a cushion to sit on and you'll like it.

Starting with the negative: The first thing I did was lean on the flagpole, placed next to the porch stairs banister, and fall. It is rotted, and not attached. We lashed it in place with rope. The photo which advertises this house is incomplete. Somehow the house next door, within a few feet of the property, is not shown. The house appears to stand alone in a lovely forest. It’s just optics, but it matters. One and one half bathrooms are not enough for the number of bedrooms. There is no dishwasher. There is one thin quilt per bed, not enough for a chilly summer night. On the plus side: the large, pleasant porch, with plenty of chairs, looks into a leafy woods. The hot water is quick and plentiful. The neighbors are nice. The birch-branch staircase is just beautiful.Once our family gets together, we have fun, no matter what the surroundings.
