Historic Beachfront Home With Stunning Views Of The Chesapeake Bay!

We had an overall positive experience with our stay for our July 4th family vacation. The house is very charming and picturesque! It is well stocked with everything a family would need. It's conveniently located right on the beach near the Ocean View pier. We enjoyed lots of beach time with views of the sail boats and ships coming and going on the Chesapeake Bay...and lots of beautiful wildlife. We enjoyed outings to Williamsburg, Cape Charles, Fort Monroe, First Landing State Park, and Virginia Beach all within 30 to 45 minutes from the house. The house is listed as a 3 bedroom...but it is huge! It actually has 5 bedrooms. One is connected to another through a shared bath, so that may be why it's not listed separately. There is also another bedroom on the 1st floor that is not connected to a bathroom, but the 1st floor bath is a full bath right down the hall from that bedroom. There is even a bonus room on the 3rd floor with a daybed, but it was too hot to use that area while we were there. I mention the extra space because it was not listed as an amenity and could be an attractive feature for some. There was some repair work and painting being done on the porch...so ladders were left in sight in the back yard...and unfortunately, our stay was during the July 4th East Coast heat wave and the house struggled to stay cool. However, I would like to emphasize that our host was extremely responsive and sent very friendly repairmen during the holiday weekend to take care of us.

This was our third time at the Big Blue House! It's right on the ocean and has an incredible porch to sit on outside and watch the ships go by. It's conveniently located to all amenities and points of interests. Check out the Botanical Gardens in Norfolk - one of our favorite gardens! It's near the naval station, so you'll see lots of cool ships, planes, and choppers. The pier is right there - you can walk to it to fish or grab a drink or some food. The house is big and has an interesting history, beautiful charm, and character. They do allow dogs, so we are always able to bring our fur kids along - we wouldn't go without them, so this is a huge plus for us. Also, the property is fenced in. You can walk right out to the beach, and there's an outdoor shower to remove the sand when you return. The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking, and the laundry units are available to use. The AC was very comfortable on the hot days. The Internet works and you can stream your favorite services. The team is great with communication and always so kind. I could go on and on! I wish we could stay longer. See you next year BBH :)

Our host was amazingly responsive, and quite gracious (I broke the coffee pot, and ordered another then let him know). The beach umbrella was turned inside out during a gust, and he replaced it immediately. We also had just a couple of basic questions that were answered quickly. The kitchen has everything one might need (including a Keurig coffee maker, which we used after I broke the other). I do wish the storm windows had been removed, it would have been great to hear the waves and catch the cross breeze at night.
