About this cabin rental

This was one of the first school houses up the creek in New Castle, and the only one preserved. It is comfy and has a nice deck for a fantastic view up the creek to the sunlight ski resort. It has family style sleeping upstairs and a futon down.

We welcome you and your pets to our first rental on the Ranch, and have listed another rental called the OGWG (off grid with goats) for rent on vrbo as well!! 492452
We offer a fantastic kitchen for the chef in you and please text Mary if you are wanting for any kitchen items... We are centrally located to a plethora of activities, flop at the Cabin and get away from it all! X country ski and snow shoe on our ranch in the winter, or soak in the famous Glenwood Hot springs or the newer Iron Mountain pools, climb in Rifle, hunt in Section 42, go to the play, ski Sunlight, Vail or Aspen, all are close! Grab some board games, relax in the glider. Life is good. We welcome you with open arms to our world. It is unique and simple, and you will love it.

My children and I absolutely loved this cabin! My oldest loved the the location and views. My middle two said the cots were more comfortable than they looked and my youngest got many hours of fun using the stairs as the stage for many of his toy adventures! My two youngest especially enjoyed the ride up to the cabin. The host was more welcoming than any host I have met thus far and gave through instructions on how to get to the cabin (I needed them!). The cabin was exceptionally clean and had everything we needed for a small family getaway. This is the perfect cabin for getting away from the daily hustle and bustle of life while still offering the option to join in on daily activities nearby. Thank you, Mary!

What a great property! Family of four stayed here for a long weekend. The property is quiet, beautiful scenery. We had deer, Elk and horses all within a few hundred yards of us. The owner was so kind. She allowed my daughter to pet the horses and even spoke with her about horses for a good whille. She even left peaches on our doorstep the day we were checking out. I cant say enough wonderful things about this property and owner. We will definitely be back!

Unique and special property. Loved watching the goats and having horses for neighbors. We had everything we needed and it was warm and cozy. Far enough away but close enough to hiking, dining and activities. Property owner was very responsive, friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again!

A friend and I stayed at the school house while we were hunting elk , what a wonderful experience we enjoyed it a lot and will be back. The owner Mary is a wonderful lady and always there to help and goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is perfect. Views of elk and mountains are gorgeous. We really enjoyed this much needed getaway. The property is just far enough off the beaten path to where you feel like you’re by yourself. Disconnected from society. The owner, Mary P. was very friendly and did come out to meet us, which I enjoyed. Would definitely recommend this place.

Loved the location, the view from the front deck is incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Very quiet, just a very occasional farm truck going by. Star gazing at night was incredible. Yet only 5 miles from Newcastle! Nice remodel on the inside, clean on the inside. Some hand made plates were a nice touch. There was a slight pet urine smell, seemed to air out with open windows. I was disappointed to find over 30 piles of dog poo in the yard. I picked it up myself, I do it weekly in my own yard, didn't contact Mary or Terry. I think they would've taken care of it themselves, if given the chance. There were a couple of rolls of poo bags in a drawer, I guess some people have to be told to pick up after their pets? The gas grill didn't work, either. We were already running late with dinner, so just broiled the steaks instead. We did use the wood fire pit, very nice (I think we were the first!) The upstairs/loft bed was probably comfortable- we let our 13 year old granddaughter sleep in it, the boys got the cots. They said the cots were comfortable. The futon downstairs my husband and I slept on, not so much. We should've switched with the bed upstairs! There's a fence around the deck, and another, around the yard. We still kept our 10 month old jumping bean pup on a cable in the yard- she can get over a 6ft fence, and these aren't that high, but should be fine for smaller/ less mobile dogs. All in all, a nice get away.

Very beautiful area to stay. The cabin was perfect for what we needed. We were visiting Glenwood Springs and surrounding areas to hike. We brought our 2 dogs with us so this was a perfect place to stay to accommodate us. Mary was very friendly and helpful. I must say the morning sunrise is beautiful from the deck

Overall good experience. Owner, Mary, very friendly and responsive. Property has all amenities for a comfy stay and there’s a grocery store at the highway exit where you can pick up anything you need. Online listing is a little outdated (e.g., property has a Roku now) or other details not disclosed until closer to check in (e.g., guard dogs on the ranch to look out for on the drive in). There was some noticeable unpleasant pet odor upon arrival (somewhat expected for a pet friendly place), but we picked up a couple of candles and were fine.

We were looking for a place to disconnect but still be within distance of an attraction/shopping if we wanted to and this was it! This cabin is located on a Elk Ranch so it was awesome waking up to the Elk in the backyard every morning. While the cabin does have wifi available there is no cell phone service available which is just what we wanted. We were able to go to Rifle Falls (about 30 min away) and attractions in Glenwood Springs (about 20 min away). Cabin is dog friendly with a fenced in yard which was great for our pup! Overall a GREAT experience and would go back again!

We had a wonderful time at the Holiday Out! It is a short drive to New Castle and Glenwood Springs but far enough out that when we came back from rafting, hiking, fishing or the hot springs we were able to relax and enjoy the quiet. The kids loved all the wildlife around and sitting on the porch watching deer or the elk in the pen next to the house. It was really beautiful. The layout of the place works great and the kitchen is well stocked. We all wished we lived here! Thank you again for your hospitality and opening up your place for us to enjoy!

We loved our stay at the Holiday Out! The perfect retreat from the city. The property was clean and well maintained and has lovely views of the meadows around it. The dogs appreciated the secure fenced area and seeing the elk and goats when we walked down the road! We were able to do so many hikes and hot springs that would normally be too far of a drive for a day-trip, but were well within reach from here. Local food recommendations from the host were also excellent, and the internet was much faster than the listing had suggested. Would stay again!

We had a great time staying here. Such beautiful land surrounding the property. Watching the elk and other wildlife every morning while having a cup of coffee was just what my soul needed! This is a great location. It’s just a quick trip into Glenwood Springs if you want to resupply or go to the hot springs or adventure park.
