About this house rental

This waterfront home at the water's edge on Hale Passage with 180 degree views, looks at majestic Mt. Baker and at night the beautiful lights of Bellingham Bay.

Views are spectacular. Watching the sun rise is a 'to be remembered' experience as are the full moons rising. As you walk into this home on the beach with hand-split cedar shakes, you see water everywhere. Bedrooms are furnished with American and English
antique furnishings. There is ceramic tile throughout the main floor and radiant heat in some areas. A Jøtul stove provides a special warmth on cool nights.

This private home on the beach is tucked against a hillside with easy access to boating, swimming, and beach combing. It is walking distance from the ferry landing--about 1 mile by beach and 1-1/2 miles by road. A regular sight are the seagulls, herons, kingfishers, eagles, seals, sea otter, and deer. At low tide, you have access to an inviting sandy tide flat with clams and crab, tide pools and beach-rock inhabitants. It is a haven to relax; a great place for families and friends.

A short 10-minute ferry ride takes you to rural Lummi Island--a small wooded Island. Lummi has a population of about 900 which probably doubles or triples in the summer months. Day trips can be made to Vancouver BC, Seattle or Mt Baker. You are 20 minutes from shopping in Bellingham, Lynden, and the Canadian border.

There are ten miles of roads for bikers--mostly following the beaches of the Island. For the beach comber there are many treasures--agates, shells, beach glass. It is a great place to relax and read as well--and to just enjoy the views.

Saturdays feature a Saturday market from June through August. You can purchase fresh produce, pastries, and local artists show their wares. There is one restaurants (the Beach Store Cafe) the Island as well as a general grocery store. Two churches on the Island hold services Sunday mornings--Island Chapel meets at the Lummi Island Grange Hall across the street from the post office and about a block north of the ferry dock.

Friend gathering on Lummi Island was a perfect choice. Home has an unusual bathroom configuration with a large soaking tub and toilet upstairs with adjoining bedrooms and then a toilet in the bedroom downstairs and the shower/toilet off the kitchen area but it worked out fine for the 4 adults. The kitchen is well appointed and has nice cutlery and cookware. The beds were firm but not too hard and everyone slept well. The home is at the bottom of a very steep driveway so we chose to keep our electric bikes in the shed at the top of the hill. It would have been nearly impossible to push them up the steep incline. The island was amazing to bike around and the views from the home on the deck were outstanding. Mt Baker made several appearances during out stay and the straights were gorgeous. 12 cup coffee pot but no grinder so bring your coffee ground. There was a Keurig but the description said there was not so we didn't bring any pods. Highly recommend for friends and families to gather at this property. You won't be disappointed.

This is such a beautiful spot on Lummi Island. The kids loved roasting hotdogs and making s’mores in the fire pit on the beach. The adults loved everything about this very special place. One of the highlights was soaking in the enormous tub with a once-in-a-lifetime view of Mount Baker and Portage Island. The house is very clean and well stocked with anything one may need. We really enjoyed our hike in Otto Preserve, only about a two minute drive away. This was a beautiful walk through huge trees and ferns. We explored the island and loved the coffee and pizza nearby. The hosts were super welcoming, and easy to communicate with. The views from the house are spectacular. We highly recommend this incredible home for anyone wanting to relax in an extremely peaceful and gorgeous natural environment.

The host & reviews are accurate. It’s a steep driveway (about 20%), but after the 1st time it’s no problem. We parked 2 cars, one in the garage, which made unloading & packing up easier and one in the above parking area. The views are sensational of Mt.Baker & the Sound. House was plenty big for 6 adults & 2 children, so everyone has their own space. Host left us firewood & a wonderful time making s’mores. House was extremely clean. Louise’s daughter was great at communicating.
