We had a lovely stay at Apanui House. Had everything we needed. Clean and warm.

The property is tidy and I think the owners are trying to improve the house. The bathroom needs repair as the floor is water damaged from the shower. The property manager was not advised that we were arriving, so when we got there there was used linen from the previous guests in the wash house and the house hadn't been cleaned... it was however still clean and tidy. The property manager apologised, (however it appears it was not her fault). We washed the used linen and cleaned all the surfaces and decided no big deal.
The house is located on a busy 80km road and traffic is pretty constant from 7:00am until the evening going back and forth from the Coastlands sub-division. As it's an 80km speed limit, so traffic is going pretty fast... often more like 100km.
The location is very handy to 'The Hub' shopping centre which has a cafe, Famers, K-Mart, Bunnings, Rebel Sport, Harvey Normans and a couple of other stores.
Whakatane Town Centre is only a 5 - 7 minute drive. Ohope Beach is only around 10 - 12 minute drive. Ohope Beach is great. You can do a 15 minute walk from the West End of Ohope over to the beautiful Otarawairere Bay... definitely worth the walk. There are a couple of other bush walks from Ohope as well.
If you want great fish and chips (and burgers) go to Gibbo's on King Street in the Kopeopeo Shopping Centre area... awesome!
