If you would like to enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional Cretan house in a lovely Cretan village, then a stay at Villa Afroditi is the ideal place to spend your holiday.
A fine balance between the old and the new is maintained to provide maximum comfort and unique atmosphere.
Here you can enjoy a wonderful vacation in a beautiful setting without doing an injustice to yourself in modern comfort. Sun, sea, beach and culture can be perfectly combined.
Afroditi Cretan house is situated in the village of Gianniou between Plakias and Preveli monastery.
The house is a two-story building with an additional new-build room at the attic. The ground floor is the oldest part of the house, which dates back to 18th century. It has been renovated to a modern open plan kitchen/living room area while a few of the historical architectural elements were preserved and incorporated into the modern layout. The kitchen is modern, there is a large dining table sitting 8 persons and a small winery in the kitchen. The furniture of the kitchen and the whole house as well was designed in a rustically style.
The kitchen is fully equipped, including an oven, refrigerator, digester, juice-maker, toast-maker, coffee machine a micro wave oven, a dish washer & a kettle.
On the opposite side on the ground floor is a cosy living room separated by an historical arch from the rest of the space. The living room has a modern flat Satellite TV and a fireplace. There is a comfortable sofa, which can become an extra double bed if necessary.
The ground floor is including also a modern bathroom with shower/toilet and a washing machine.
There is an iron-wooden staircase leading from the ground floor to the first floor. On the first floor there are two bedrooms with wooden floors and ceilings and the master bathroom.
The master bedroom has a king-size double bed, large wardrobe and a beautiful view over the valley and hills stretching below the village. There is also a door leading from the master bedroom out to the terrace of the house. The second bedroom consists of two single beds.
The master bathroom is between the two bedrooms on the first floor and it has a Jacuzzi.
Another internal iron-wooden stairway is leading from the first floor to the attic, where you will find one more spacious new-build room with three windows offering beautiful views to the surroundings, there is the third bedroom of the house with 2 beds, a king-size double bed and a single bed.
The house has a terrace covered by a wooden pergola, which is accessible either from the master bedroom or by stairs from outside.
The house is suitable also for winter stays, as it has a fireplace and a central heating as well.
The house is also located at an excellent starting point to many interesting walking tours around. You can enjoy a walk of about 45 min over a hill to the Preveli monastery, to Preveli palm beach or plenty of other treks along the aqueducts and fields surrounding the village. The nearest supermarket and taverns you will find in the village of Lefkogia, which is cca 1 km away from the house. The nearest beach is the beach of Skinaria, cca 3,5 km away.
Afroditi house can accommodate in comfort 6-8 persons.

W are a family with 2 adults kids and we all enjoyed very much our staying in Afroditi house .We had a nice and warm welcome by Adonis..His house is a typical cretan place in mountains. the location is beautifull, place is quiet. it's a small village where old nice cretan live with their kids and grandchilds.
House was clean and welcome. some foods is waiting for you in the kitchen, shelves are not empty. it's a lively house where you feel good. Adonis is helpfull and easily available . Have good vacation in Crete in GIANNIOU and Plakias !

We have had the opportunity to stay at this beautiful place in September 2014 and have seldom experienced such a great holiday! The house is perfectly equipped, in excellent condition, the location is outstanding with the views of the mountains. Plakias is not far; approximately 10 min by car; beautiful beaches are even closer. The surroundings have a lot to offer, great beaches, numerous excellent taverns, shops, supermarkets within a 10 min drive. It is a great place to spend your holiday. And Adonis, the owner, is a very gentle person and helpful with whatever is needed! We hardly ever go to the same place twice, but this time we might :-)

My family (2 adults & 2 kids, ages 7 and 9) & I stayed in this house for 2 weeks at the end of April 2014. It was exactly as shown in the pictures; as a matter of fact, it's hard to convey the effect of the spectacular panorama that you get from the patio. What a pleasure to wake up to every morning. The location is a small, sparsely-populated mountain village with friendly people (and lots of cats & sheep). The nearest large town, Plakias, is a tourist resort with a wide array of restaurants and grocery stores; it also has a butcher & a bakery, and, of course, an assortment of beaches. There's lots of rambling to be done from the house - including to the famous Prevali monastery, 1.5 kms over the mountain; and a spectacular panorama from the church on the highest peak right behind the village, about 1400' up. Our little girl took joy in doing a "patrol" of the village streets every morning after she got up. The owner of the house is Adonis, a friendly guy who also, as it happens, owns a tourist agency in town - so he has lots of info, if you need it. He put a lot of time & money into restoring his old family homstead, and he obviously cares about it very much. Many major sights are within a 90 min drive, including Chania, Iraklio, the ferries at Chora Sfakion, Phaestos, and Gortys, just to name a few. Our only (very minor) complaint is that the heat was turned off, and the odd night it was chilly, especially in the bottom floor kitchen - but we were there early in the season. This is the place for you if you want to have a genuine Cretan experience at your own pace & on your own terms, in spectacular surroundings that give you a taste of the flow & ebb of daily life. We had a wonderful time, and would recommend this place to anyone.
