About this house rental

Stay in a piece of history in this 1880 nostalgic home on the edge of the town of Mendocino, offering amazing white water views and stunning sunsets. Enjoy the sights and soothing sounds of the waves while relaxing on the sun porch with a good book or take a short walk to access the 340 scenic acres of the Mendocino Headlands State Park and Big River Beach. The living room offers another area to cozy up in front of the crackling fireplace and enjoy those amazing views. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, (2 queens, 1 twin room) all with ocean views. (Queen sleeper sofa located in living room.) The bright kitchen is open to the dining area and includes a peninsula that can be used for eating, playing games or supervising the chef. If you don't feel like cooking, the seaside village of Mendocino is just a short walk away and offers charming restaurants, unique boutiques, galleries specializing in local art, and lively entertainment. Mendocino's McCloud House is the perfect setting to create Mendocino memories that will last a lifetime.

Our stay at the Mccloud house was wonderful. Everything about the house and area was just as I expected. The beds were cozy, the views were beautiful and the walks into town were fun. Except a couple of things that we found odd was that the stereo system has a turntable BUT not one ( Record/ Vinyl ) to be found in the house. AND! When we went to go try and have some TV time , there are no instructions at all to be found on how to turn on the TV and get it going so we gave up and tried to watch a DVD movie AND! There is only 1 dvd movie in the whole house to watch! ( Casino Royal ) and that was in bad shape too! It was kinda odd we thought. Maybe someone needs to work on that a bit more Hmmmm….But! All in all it was still nice getaway.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: For whatever it's worth I selected a historic house in Mendocino. The area is beautiful, but the town is overpriced and artsy weird. So the house is kind of like that, and didn't have the amenities I'd prefer. You couldn't open but about 2 windows for a breeze. There were a lot of additional instructions throughout the home which made things less warm and friendly. The whole onboarding process once I completed the sign up through VRBO was cumbersome and absurdly duplicated. All in all this feels more like a place for an eclectic older couple with some sort of toy dog, not really for a family. Don't get me wrong, the house fits the Mendocino vibe, but I've strongly reasoned that I could live without that town. I visited because I had childhood memories of going there, and do not feel the need to return again.

Wonderful spot on planet earth. Views from all rooms of the ocean, even while it rained. Breathtaking sunsets. And they let us bring our dogs. Nice fireplace and the local radio station KOZT made everything groovy. We went to the Harvest Market the first night and bought hot clam chowder and sourdough for dinner. The next night we has fresh dungeness crab. Mendo baby.

This home has historic charm and felt like we were staying at grandma’s house. The house is in a nice big lot so you don’t have to worry about neighbors being on top of you. Everything worked as expected and the amenities were perfect for our family of 5 (2 couples and 1parent). It is located within a mile of beautiful downtown Mendocino. The only tiny downside is that Lansing road itself is not very pedestrian friendly so even though the house is close to downtown, it was a bit uncomfortable to walk on the busy road with no shoulder until we were able to reach a side road. Perhaps there is a pedestrian trail behind the house we don’t know about. Other than that, it was a perfect stay!

Once inside, the home was spotless and filled with wonderful vintage treasures. It was the perfect amount of space for us to spread out and each have a bit of privacy. My kids enjoyed reading on the porch looking out over the water. In the evenings we watched the sunset then cozied upon the couches for games. The house is minutes from town and very convenient to pop in to pick up a meal or go for a morning walk on the headlands. It’s a beautiful home in a great location.

This was our second stay at this property. It is a very charming historic house with amazing views of the ocean from most all of the rooms. The cozy parlor is a perfect place to pass an afternoon reading a book or playing a game by the fire. The house is very convenient to the grocery store at the end of the street, the beach and to the town of Mendocino.

Two queen beds and one twin, so cozy, beautiful beds for 5. Upstairs bathroom is large, with space for personal items. Downstairs bathroom is smaller, but still very functional. Covered parking was nice because it rained the weekend we were there.Bummers: There is a road between the house and the ocean, which isn't apparent on the rental page. The coffee pot had no carafe, so someone had to stand and fill cups as the coffee brewed. Because it is an historical house, with smaller rooms and steep steps, it isn't a great option for people who have mobility issues. Great restaurants are close by in the town, but walking there isn't an option because the road has no shoulders. We still enjoyed them! The Good Life Cafe is to die for!

The views of the ocean are beautiful...we even saw whales from the house. We enjoyed afternoons on the little sun porch, evenings by the fire and games in the separate TV/game room. The stairs to the 2nd floor (where the bedrooms are) are steep, so if you have mobility issues or small children, keep this in mind. Also, it's a little bit of a hike into the village along a fairly busy road with no sidewalks, but a short car ride. We have spent much time in Mendocino/Fort Bragg over the years. We enjoy hiking, whale watching, visiting galleries and shops, eating at local restaurants, and participating in seasonal activities. This visit, we saw the Festival of Lights at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens and attended the Holiday Parade in Fort Bragg. Already thinking about our next visit to this beautiful area...

My friends and I (and one small dog) had a very comfortable stay in the McCloud House. Lots of extra bedding for chilly nights, chopped wood for the fireplace, nicely decorated bedrooms. Only complaint is that the wi-fi was a little slow at times, not the speed we were accustomed to. But we still had a great time and were very comfortable.

We enjoyed our stay at the McCloud house and loved the 1880’s charm. It was large enough to accommodate my family, and was perfectly located not far from town and the Mendocino Art Center. I will definitely keep this property in mind for next year’s Open Paint Out.

My family of 4 spent 5 wonderful days at this beautiful home. The views were amazing! The furnishings were nicely done and the house if quite cozy. We curled up in front of the fireplace enjoying the view and gazed at stars off the patio at night. The house feels very private and is quiet. The house is a 5 minute drive from the down town, grocery store and beach. We also drove to the “10 mile trail” for a bike ride (15 min drive). Fabulous trip! Thank you!

Easy check in and out. Had a relaxing stay, unfortunately we had to leave a day early. I would recommend staying in this house for some one who likes to have there morning coffee on the front porch watching the ocean and loves the old two story charm it offers.

It was difficult to maneuver for an old person. If you like old and quaint, this is the place for you. The folks at Mendocino Preferred were great. They found us a one level cottage to move to for the remainder of our stay, and we were happy.
