Atmosphere
Steeped in history and tales of times gone by, Church House sits in the centre of St Merryn, a hidden gem located within easy reach of the Seven Bays and the pretty fishing village of Padstow. Once a former Methodist chapel dating back to 1905, today Church House has been lovingly converted into a four-bedroom home, seamlessly blending original features with contemporary design. Church House oozes charm from the moment you set foot inside the front door and are greeted by the warm light flooding in through the beautiful retained stained glass windows. Characterful memorial tablets and wooden beams sit harmoniously with the open plan living space, luxury bathrooms, modern wood burning fire and bespoke, shaker-style kitchen.

Kitchen, living and dining

The double-height, open-plan living area is a fantastic space for entertaining and holidaying with family and friends. Although open-plan, the large space is intelligently divided; each area defined by its differing height and floor finish, while a feature wood-burning fire rests at the heart, uniting each space. The bespoke, hand-crafted kitchen sits on a mezzanine floor, reached via six curved, discreetly lit stairs. The muted sage, shaker-style kitchen cabinets, oak worktops and slate flooring set off the stunning colours of the stained glass windows. A walk-in pantry can be found on the same level, housing a fridge-freezer and ample shelving for all your store cupboard essentials. An expansive arched window allows even more light into the space, with a door leading out to the terrace and the enclosed back garden. Open field views towards the sea in the distance continue to enhance the feeling of relaxation at Church House.

Directly beneath the mezzanine kitchen on the ground floor there is a dining table that seats 10 comfortably, complete with an original church pew seat on one side. Sociable cooking and dining is made effortless at Church House. A double-sided wood burning fire sits between the dining table and the living area, making the large open-plan space warm and cosy in the winter months.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Climb the bespoke stair case to the mezzanine master bedroom - a large, light-flooded space flanked on one side by original stunning stained-glass windows. The original doors to the church have been used as the headboard, again blending old and new seamlessly. A fireman's pole will get you quickly back to the ground floor if you don't fancy taking the stairs. In the original Sunday school wing, you ll find three more good size bedrooms - a king room with an ensuite bathroom, a second king bedroom with a roll top bath in the bedroom, and a twin bedroom.

Recently converted, Church House has four luxury, modern bathrooms. Either end of the utility room, you ll find a shower room at one end with outdoor access - perfect for washing a day at the beach away - and a separate WC room at the other end. There is another shower room just off the entrance hall in the main part of Church House, while in the bedrooms wing there is a family bathroom and an ensuite in the king room with the daybed.

Facilities

The feature wood-burning fire and underfloor heating ensure Church House is toasty all year round. A utility room houses a washing machine, tumble dryer and dog bed. A dishwasher is provided in the kitchen and a separate pantry room enables you store your weekly supplies. Wireless broadband is provided at Church House.

Outside

Doors lead out from the kitchen to the balcony and down a couple of stairs to the large back garden. Enclosed on all four sides, it s secure for small dogs (larger breeds may be able to jump over the garden wall). The back garden is well appointed with table and chairs and a barbecue. The garden backs on to protected open fields with the sea just visible in the distance.

Nearby

Church House is located back from the beaches in the village of St Merryn with pubs, restaurants and shops on your doorstep. Less than a five minute drive (or around a 35 minute walk if you re feeling energetic) will take you to Constantine Bay or Harlyn Bay. Church House is also perfectly located for visiting the quaint, yet vibrant fishing port of Padstow, bustling with shops and restaurants. Trevose Golf Club is also within easy reach of Church House

Church House was brilliant. Perfect location for Constantine Bay and Padstow. St Merryn has lots on offer - including Doghouse for pizza and a drink, Froth Coffee, Fryer Tuck’s Fish and Chips and Rick Stein’s Cornish Arms. Quirky property but with every need thought of. Beautifully laid out house with most bedrooms and the master bathroom in the same wing, the old Sunday School. Plenty of bathrooms and great countryside views from the balcony and easy access to local footpaths. A sizeable, private garden and a barbecue too. You can just about squeeze two cars on the drive but road parking isn’t too bad outside of school drop off and pick up times (as the property neighbours a school). Lots of entertainment for rainy days from pool to table tennis to board games. Only very minor niggles - the lockbox code in the app and via automated email were incorrect but I found the right code in Vrbo messages from the host. The WiFi instructions were also out of date. We would love to stay again!

Clean, modern with an olde fashion twist. Loved the fresh fluffy white towels - nice touch. All modern conveniences included as well as a good sound system. Liked the fact that all cleaning products supplied - makes life easier.

Wintery week whilst selling local property
Wintery week whilst selling local property
We loved our stay at Church House. What would have been a very stressful week due to our house move was made that bit easier staying here. To be able to relax by the fire in the cosy living area whilst also enjoying open plan living. The bedroom on the mezzanine level was perfect and we made good use of the fireman’s pole! We will certainly be back, next time with friends and are already looking at available weeks.

Beyond our expectations
Beyond our expectations
Great property. Much larger than the photos suggest, with plenty of space. We stayed here as 4 couples and were able to stay out of each other's way when we wanted to. We all wished we could have stayed longer. Great location, very easy to get to, with space for two cars on the driveway and more on the road, with a couple of local pubs in walking distance (including Rick Stein's). Facilities were excellent with everything you can imagine, catered for. We loved the bluetooth enabled stereo system. We really wanted to use the log burner, but the building was just too warm to justify it (and it was the end of January!). The deposit was returned in a timely manner without prompting and the owners/mgt team were very prompt to answer any questions asked on the lead up to the break.

We, 6 adults, two children and two dogs, stayed for a week and I can say we found everything fantastic with the property, lots of room, everything catered for and no issues whatsoever (apart from the weather!!). I would have no hesitation in recommending this property. It is walkable to a number of bays and the dogs absolutely loved themselves.
