Makau St. is West Makaha and home to Israel Kamawiwole internationally famous Hawaiian musician who lived, surfed, wrote and played his music on the beach here on our property back when it was an empty lot and all there was was a hau tree. For reals!! Feel the mana of IZ in Makaha, home to native Hawaiians going back thousands of years. Visit the Heiau in Makaha Valley and hike the ancient trails used by Hawaiians who grew taro, hunted boar and lived in these beautiful mountains! Mt Ka'ala is Oahu's highest mountain at 4,050 feet with tropical bogs and views of the entire island! Night time stars shine brightly far from the city lights. What a place!

The house is beautiful, the grounds impeccably landscaped and cared for, and the beach is quiet and lovely. It was a peaceful week with early morning swims in the ocean and exploring the many beautiful beaches and hikes on this side of the Island. We had a monk seal hanging out for a full day on the beach and saw tons of dolphins from the porch. The house has everything one could need in terms of cooking supplies, towels, etc. We hope to come again to visit our daughter, who is teaching at the local high school, and we will definitely stay here to avoid the traffic and massive crowds in Honolulu. Absolutely recommend this place if you are up for a quieter Hawaii visit.

This home is a pleasant get away from the hustle and bustle of the more populated areas of O’ahu. The views are amazing and the property is better than advertised. We were more than satisfied with the house and beach. The owner made himself available whenever we needed something, but did not intrude on our family time.
I’d also like to respond to a recent guest that left a poor review citing some questionable areas and homeless people in the parks surrounding this home. We found that this was the case almost everywhere on the island, not just in Wai’anae. We frequently saw run down homes and people living in tents, but one block away there would be beautiful homes and fabulous beaches. Even in the ritzy parts of the island, homelessness is apparent. Visitors merely need to accept this as part of the environment. We never felt unsafe while staying at this home and would stay again in a heartbeat.

Had a great time, the tide pool on right side of house is great for kid fun. The beach around the corner is awesome. This is quiet place and about 1 hour from everything. Keep in mind this isn't Waikiki and driving to the "compound" you will see people leaving on the a few of the beaches and you will see a few abandoned cars, that is just part of HI. We stayed with 3 kids and never had any issues. Tony actually showed up to do a motorcycle trip on the big island and he was super nice. I would stay again and recommend to friends.
