About this apartment rental

*Please Note Our Garden Suite Is Available For Stays Of 28 Days Or Longer*

Located centrally, just steps from the heart of old Charlottetown, our legal luxury triplex is a former traditional centre-hall shingled house (originally built circa 1880) nestled on a professionally designed recently landscaped lot gently shaded by a stately century-old white ash tree.

Lovingly renovated, our main-floor 'Garden Suite' has a secluded 'get-away-from-it-all' feel that's rare to find in proximity to downtown. Inside, our freshly re-imagined airy and open-concept space features it's own private marble-tiled entrance, private cedar decked garden, two comfortable bedrooms (with one queen and one full beds, featuring fresh, quality linens) + our comfy home office, each with it's own access to full bath or water closet. The suite features an L-shaped Great Room with a handsomely furnished dining and living area featuring hand-hewn beams, wide-plank flooring, art work by noted island artists, and a light-filled vaulted ceiling with skylight. The fully-fitted and equipped contemporary kitchen has 4 quality stainless steel appliances and a butcher block island. There is a separate laundry/storage room, a two-piece and an indulgent four-piece washroom with rain shower and deep soaking tub.

The property is situated on Upper Hillsborough Street, and is a brief ten-minute walk to Charlottetown Harbour, and the shops and restaurants of Water Street, Peakes Quay, Queen Street and Victoria Row. It's a few blocks to historic Great George Street and Province House, and an easy stroll to the waterfront boardwalk of 100+ acre Victoria Park with it's walking trails, sport fields, tennis courts and outdoor swimming pool. And we can't resist recommending our favorite independent coffee location, Receiver Coffee, on Water Street!

I can’t say enough great things about this home. I agree with the other reviewers in that the pictures don’t do it justice. It is a gorgeously renovated home and there is nothing that we needed. We had a couple of “blips” during our stay (our own doing), and April and James were both so friendly, quick and easy to deal when they helped out. We had our nightly beverages and morning coffees on the deck with the friendly neighbourhood cat as well. The property also came with a National Park pass which was helpful for our treks to the beach. The only 4 in my star rating was for the neighbourhood. The location was close to everything you needed, however the neighbourhood itself got a bit loud some nights with fighting. Nothing that can be helped, but good to know so you aren’t surprised! Also one of the bedrooms didn’t have any storage. We shared the other closet, so not a big deal.

Attractive, very clean, modern, well appointed suite. The deck is accessible and roomy. Lots of chairs available. Kitchen had everything we needed. Bedrooms were a good size and the beds were comfortable. Extras such as wine and cheese, coffee, cookies, bath salts and soap were appreciated. We could easily walk to every place that we wanted to go in Charlottetown. I would stay here again.

We loved the garden suite in the Black House! We were lucky enough to get the reservation at the last minute and it was everything we wanted. The suite was spotlessly clean, beautifully designed and decorated and equipped with everything we might need and more. We spent about half our time eating in (preparing dinner on a good quality grill) and the other half eating in great restaurants in the historic district of Charlottetown. The suite is in a great location--about a 10/15 minute walk to many great restaurants and the wharf area. A nice touch was discovering all the welcoming gifts when we arrived; cookies, wine, bottled water, cheese and fruit along with fresh flowers throughout the suite. We loved PEI and were so happy to experience the Black House.

We were very happy to stay at the garden suite at the Black House. It was a great place to unwind and relax after days of visiting the province.
