About this cottage rental

Lake and mountain Views !!! Private with all the fun things to do on the lake , and the newest National Park, and a view of Maine’s highest mountain. You bring in your groceries or get them delivered and you don’t have to be around anybody that you didn’t come with! It’s really spectacular .It’s heaven on earth and don’t let the ratings affect you because it’s seldom rented, which is how they rate a property! Writers, Artists, Nature Lovers, Hikers, and Families, this is for You if you want to get out of the city and into Nature!!!Listen to the call of the Loons, in your very own Golden Pond type adventure.. Our new National Monument, to become a National Park, on 87,500 acres , is a few miles from this camp, right next to Baxter State Park. The Appalachian Trail starts or ends at this Mountain. Swim in the lake right outside your front door! Canoe over to the islands and watch the eagles fly and nest! In August of 1846 Henry David Thoreau traveled near this camp and subsequently wrote his book "The Maine Woods". In the mid 1800's, The famous Hudson River Valley School Painter Frederic Edwin Church came to these lakes and painted many scenes of our Mt. Katahdin. Writers , artists, and naturalists seek out this visual and inspirational environment. 5 Lakes connect together making this a great lake for boating, kayaking, nature watching, fishing, hiking, painting, writing and relaxing. The entire front of the "camp" is all windows, facing the lake and mountain views. The downstairs consists of a custom kitchen, with live edge cedar cabinets and counter tops with antler handles. Log walls and log beamed ceilings are throughout most every room. The stove and refrigerator are new but built to replicate beautiful old 1930's styles. The stove is a 6 burner, 4 gas and 2 electric, with an electric stove and warming oven. There is a dishwasher and trash compactor as well. The separate dining area seats 6, but extensions can seat 10 to 12. A large multilevel antler chandelier hangs over head with spot lites to highlight authentic Moose Head on one gable end and a Caribou on the other, both with imposing racks! An array of choices in cutlery include faux antler handles, or red handles to match a red cardinal dinner service. A variety of pewter bowls, platters, and various animal motifs make for exciting place settings on the Ethan Allen dining table. For informal breakfasts and lunches, there is a casual table and chairs in the front window of the sitting porch, practically ON the water. The camps on either side of us can't be seen from
our location. Camps across on the islands can be seen at a distance. There is a 4 bed bunk room and a very large bathroom downstairs. The large living room focal point is a floor to ceiling rock fireplace and the view from a large bay window with 2 flanking windows overlooks the long water toward the mountain. The opposing shoreline has no buildings on it because the Conservation Agency and Timberlands has left much of our area pristine, with development on only certain shorelines. Canoeing, kayaking, or boating throughout the 5 connected lakes and many secluded islands can be like a wilderness trip, without sight of camps for miles of shoreline. But, you are only 5 miles from a hospital and shopping!
There is a modern laundry room behind the bathroom with an exterior exit door.
Upstairs is the big master bedroom, equal in size to the downstairs living room. Pine ceilings and walls, antique oriental rugs, a king size bed, and even a treadmill in the side niche all overlook the million dollar water and mountain view. A second bedroom is on the other side of the hall way and a full bathroom is in between. There is another bedroom upstairs, but it is our lock off room for personal items. Only the master bedroom has a wall AC, because it is usually cool at night in Maine. This camp was originally built in the early 1930's from logs imported from Germany's Black Forrest, and we added on to it in the 1980's tripling it in size. Smoking is strictly forbidden. Fires in the fire place must be kept
moderate to small in size. This camp is in a secluded location. You must park in a private Association parking lot and walk on a nice pathway approximately 50+- yards, over a pedestrian railroad crossing and past the neighbor's cabin. No vehicles are allowed on the path but we have an electric cart to carry things in. There is a dock over the water in front of our "camp". A canoe and 2 kayaks are available. Fairpoint wi-fi is available in the camp.
We have many outdoor chairs, a hammock, and a picnic table lakeside.
There are 3 TV's.Flat Screen. Cell phone use only, no hard line. Verizon works best. Wi fi too!
This camo is not suitable for young children because of all our antiques, and the closeness of the lake. Although we have just changed to instant booking, and because this is our home of decades , we will require a personal conversation when they release your phone number so we can discuss rules and regulations. We are excited to share our home with you and want to be sure in advance that it's a good fit.

We had a wonderful week in Millinocket, and this house is really a home. The hosts were very responsive, accommodating and easygoing. We originally wanted to go hiking, but ended up just relaxing and enjoying the lake all week instead. If you have a boat and enjoy fishing, this is a fantastic spot to explore.

This was one of my favorite vacations! The location can't be beat. The camp community is very special. We swam, canoed and kayaked most days. Beautiful view of Katahdin from the dock. The house is beautiful, charming and has everything you need. Kristi and her daughter were very welcoming and gave us great recommendations. We went Baxter State Park twice during our week stay. Once hiking to Katahdin and Knife Edge, which was an incredible experience and challenging hike. I highly recommend this camp and hope to be back in the future!
