About this house rental

Tucked in the trees on a ledge overlooking McCauley Pond this lovely log sided home is ready for your perfect vacation. This non motorized pond is locally known as a productive spot to fish for pike, perch as well as large and small mouth bass and other species of fish. You may fish off the private dock or use the supplied canoe or row boat. It is always fun to stop on the island or just float around. Please be aware it's a short walk down some steps through the woods to reach the pond.

The house is very secluded with tons of privacy. There are only 3 or 4 houses on the pond and none are visible from the house. You can’t see or hear the road from the house. Several trails wind through the woods for short walks around the property. Just walking the well maintained driveway up to the road is a nice walk. If you prefer longer hikes you are not far from the ‘Saranac 6’ or the 46 High Peaks. The Visitor’s Interpretive Center at Paul Smith’s, about 10 minutes away, has many wide well maintained trails, programs and a butterfly house in season. There is also park land all around with countless trails.

Activities abound in the area. We are located close to the Saranac chain of lakes with several public boat launches. A 30 minute drive will bring you to Tupper Lake well known for the Adirondack Wild Center and its just opened elevated ‘Wild Walk’. You can also keep travelling to my favorite, the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. Of course you must visit the village of Saranac Lake, ‘Capital of the Adirondacks’ and Lake Placid, home of 1932 and 1980 winter Olympics, to take advantage of the shops and restaurants. Minutes away, you will find Saranac Inn's golf course. Just started is a railroad bike trip that allows you to pedal a special bike on a RR track through the woods and past lakes and ponds(one being the pond our house is located on.)

The house itself is large, surrounded by deck on three sides, one covered, so you can enjoy the outdoors and the gas grill even if it’s raining.
The great room boasts a fireplace, piano, and large south facing windows looking out to the pond. In the great room is a couch with a pull out bed and also a futon. The first main floor bedroom features a queen sized bed, twin bed, and ensuite bathroom with a shower. The second main floor bed room has a queen sized bed and attached bathroom with tub/shower. Both main floor bedrooms have private entrances to the wrap around deck.
The master suite, on the upper floor, has a king sized bed and a loft overlooking the great room. On the loft is a pull out sleeper couch. The master suite has a private balcony. The master bathroom has a large shower and Jaccuzi tub with windows facing the woods.

The kitchen is well equipped with a large refrigerator, through door ice and water, dual fuels stove, dishwasher, and 2 microwaves. Small appliances include coffee maker, waffle iron, blender, crock pot, toaster and toaster oven. Plenty of cooking utensils are supplied as well as a full set of dishes and silver ware. The dining room table seats 10 or there are 2 picnic tables on the pond side deck and one on the covered deck not to mention 4 stools at the kitchen island.

The large well lit downstairs is a work in progress. Be careful around the building supplies and equipment but feel free to enjoy a game of pool on the 8’ x 4’ slate pool table. Paddles and oars are kept by the door that leads to path down to the pond.

On those hopefully rare indoor days checkout the entertainment center in the great room. It’s equipped with cable TV, DVDs, puzzles and games for all ages.
Winter brings many other activities for you enjoyment. You can ice fish out on the pond. Snowmobile trails are located nearby. Opportunities for cross country skiing and snow showing abound. Whiteface ski area is about 45 minutes away, the local Mount Pisgah and Big Tupper ski areas are closer and more accessible. Afterwards return home for a soak in the Jacuzzi or relax in front of the fireplace.

All in all we hope you enjoy your stay in a most beautiful area nature has to offer. Do as much or as little as you like, it’s your vacation!

We had a great week. The house and property are wonderful. If you want peace and quiet, you will be very happy here. The only sounds you'll hear are the loons on the lake and the wind through the trees, so many trees -- aspen, birch, maple, fir, and some very tall pine. No motor boats or jet-skis on this lake, we saw one rowboat the whole time. We actually saw more loons than humans while here (2 of the latter, out in the rowboat). As we did also hear the sound of quite a bit of rain (rain in the trees also a nice sound though!), the pool table in the basement and the piano in the main room saw a lot of action. That main room with its dizzyingly high cathedral ceiling is pretty spectacular (not quite captured in the photos)Our dog especially enjoyed the trail down to and up from the lake, and the Awesome Adirondack Rail Trail is right the road, a major plus and a 5 mile bike ride to Saranac Lake. The kitchen is well-stocked and there is a record player in the basement and of course TV if you tire of all the nature sounds.Chris provided ample useful information prior to arrival, he responds promptly--while we didn't need him during the stay, our son managed to leave leave several items behind, which Chris happily agreed to send to us.Thank you, Chris! We hope to return in the future!

This property is a gem. The pictures don’t do it justice! Property owners are quick to respond to any questions which is super helpful when planning a trip. The property is secluded and private and the pond is so clean and great for swimming and Kayaking. The loons were my best friends and I took tons of photos of them and other wildlife. Could not have asked for a better ADK Vacation’
