About this house rental
The house itself, modern yet still cozy, is two stories and the layout is perfect for families or multiple guests. On the main floor you will find an open floor plan containing a living area with a large granite, wood-burning fireplace, both a formal dining area and a breakfast nook, a fully equipped kitchen, and a sunroom--all of which, along with the long deck just outside, offer views of Frenchman Bay. We are often able to spot seals, porpoises and bald eagles directly from the house. Also on the main floor is the master bedroom (accompanied by a full bath), which has both north and west views of the water as well as a remote controlled gas fireplace for cozy evenings and mornings. The downstairs area contains the guest suite, which has its own full bathroom as well as a sitting area. A second guest bedroom has two twin beds with access to another full bathroom. In between the two rooms is a second common living area equipped with a flat screen TV. All rooms on the lower level, with the exception of the bathrooms, face Frenchman bay. The house also has a utility room with a washer and dryer on the lower level, and a half-bath on the main level.
Caddo North sits directly on Frenchman Bay and offers views of Ironbound, Jordan, and Stave Islands, as well as parts of Mount Desert Island (MDI). The house is a ten-minute drive to the entrance of Acadia National Park at the Schoodic Peninsula; the only part of the park that is on the mainland. This portion of the park is less crowded than its larger sibling on MDI and offers ample opportunities for hiking, biking, and enjoying the beautiful rocky coastline (bike rentals are available outside of the park). It's also ten minutes to the center of the quaint village of Winter Harbor, which offers galleries and restaurants as well as a grocery store and opportunities to buy fresh lobster. An hour's drive (or 30-45 minutes by ferry) brings you to Bar Harbor and all the opportunities and activities (shopping, dining, boat tours, exploring larger sectors of Acadia, including Cadillac Mountain, and so forth) that this tourist destination has to offer. In addition to Acadia National Park, there are also numerous biking, hiking, fishing, canoeing, and swimming opportunities within 30 – 60 minutes of the house. These include the Down East Sunrise trail, Donnell Pond reserve, Schoodic and Black mountains, Lamoine State Park and numerous freshwater lakes and ponds. The location truly allows you to enjoy all that Down East Maine has to offer!
