Vintage Castle in The Sky with 260’ Oceanview’s, short walk to beach, Pool n Spa

The house, the view, the location were all perfect! Couldn’t have asked for more during our stay. Highly recommend. We hope to return!

Running toilets. Non working showers in 2 bedroom's, furniture worn out, broken kitchen faucet. But location was amazing; pool and veranda spectacular

I rented this magical property for the view, pool &hot tub and 6 bedrooms and it delivered. Our 6 grandchildren, ages 2 - 9 had a blast. A very spacious, lovely home. Beautiful views of the sunset.

Property needs repairs, needs Barbecue, great layout and location, defrost the freezer, things like this, great pool and spa and views of the ocean

We are a family of 10 adults, 4 children and 1 infant. The house had plenty of space to all be together and yet spread out. The pool table was entertaining for adults and everyone enjoyed the hot tub spa and pool. The views are beautiful and the house is well equipped. We enjoyed out stay at this beautiful villa.

The Castle in the Sky has amazing views and a fabulous location for enjoying LaJolla and San Diego. It was great to have bathrooms for every bedroom. We loved the pool, hot tub, and pool table and had a great celebration dinner in the spacious dining room. The home is furnished with unique antique furniture. The large sectionals let our whole crew gather to watch football, though as some others have mentioned some chairs are showing their age. We also found the lighting a bit dark (for cooking), but overall loved it.

The location of the house itself was beautiful, great location! The house was nice, but the listing told us it had 7 bedrooms with a bonus room, when we got there, there were 5 bedrooms. So we had 4 beds that we were counting on, that we didn’t have. Check in was at 4:00 pm. We arrived at 4:06. The owner was suppose to meet us there. I text and called a couple hrs early to let him know of our arrival time. We don’t get an answer. When we got there, no one was there. We text and called again, no answer. We finally found the key under the door mat and let ourselves in. There was check in papers on the table (which could’ve been emailed to me but were not) we called the number on the check in papers, the woman told us she hadn’t helped with that property in 15 years. Finally at 530 the owner called us to see if we were ok. He was in Cabo and his son was suppose to meet us. Apparently the son got tired of waiting for us and left at 4. (Check in time) no calls, no texts, no note on the door, just left. The owner was nice, and apologized no one was there to meet us. All in all the stay was great, other than the two missing rooms and 4 missing beds! The location couldn’t have been better, and the pool was wonderful. They should spray for ants though, there were ants everywhere out by the pool

This villa provided a pleasant and practical base for an extended-family multi-day gathering. Very spacious both indoors and out on patios and pooldeck. Somewhat dated furnishings (though that worked well for the several elderly persons in attendance). Convenient location which provides a great view without being too difficult to get to: walking distance to downtown La Jolla and the cove, close to perfect rental.

Great house for multi generational family.

My husband and I rented the castle in the sky for 6 nights. We brought along our children/ spouses and grandchildren, for a total of 14. The house had plenty of room for us to spread out, but not so big that we felt disconnected from each other. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals each evening. The pool and hot tub were great with amazing views of the Pacific ocean. Dave graciously allowed us to check in early on day of arrival as well. He also stopped by the next day to check on us and answer any questions we had. We were able to make wonderful memories with our family in La Jolla.

We had a wonderful stay. The views were breathtaking and we really enjoyed the pool. We were there over the Fourth of July and were treated to a spectaular fireworks display. We loved the location of the home. We had 11 people in our family group and it was perfect for our size.

The house was as advertised. It accommodated our family of 9 very easily. So much room to roam we had to text one another on occasion. Perched high on the hill overlooking La Jolla and the Pacific Ocean was truly spectacular. Pool was large for us all to enjoy along with the hot-tub. Property was conveniently located to grocery store and many restaurants. Enjoyed the fact every bedroom had its own private bathroom. David was a charismatic and awesome host who was very quick to respond to us when needed. Would definitely like to come back again in the future. If you want to feel like you are on "top of the world", well then this is the place for you and your guests. You won't be disappointed.

Property is true to the reviews, so I would recommend any future travellers read them thoroughly. Furniture is older, but this is a benefit when travelling with small children, as you are less concerned about them ruining anything. There are not doors on many of the bathrooms, which can be an issue for privacy. Many of the bedrooms do not have dark window coverings, which can be an issue for families with small children who need nap times, or who go to bed before the sunsets. Basic maintenance is not performed on a regular basis, I.e. bathroom sink drains need to be snaked clear. However, the views are spectacular, the space is huge, which allows for a large group to feel comfortable. We enjoyed its many amenities, such as the very large patio, swimming pool and hot tub. The host is very responsive should you encounter difficulties. Overall, we shared a great time together with extended family, in this perfectly situated home.

This is an amazing house. The pool and hot tub are great. It has several large meeting areas. The only suggestion would be to get better lighting.

First of all, the listing is inaccurate and misleading. There are only 5 true bedrooms...and only one has a sleeper sofa...the primary bedroom. The property sleeps 12 comfortably. We had to utilize an air mattress for one child....not what we were anticipating according to the listing. The bonus space is up a back staircase from the kitchen. The space has a bed and one sleeper sofa.but the noise from the kitchen made it impossible to sleep if there are people downstairs. There is no privacy in this space since there are 2 walls with large windows and NO WINDOW COVERINGS. There are NO doors on ANY bathrooms except the hall half bath and the hallway bath upstairs in the bonus space. So the four en suite bathrooms do not have doors. This was very strange and uncomfortable....certainly NO PRIVACY. There was NO heat in the house, except for the 2 bedrooms upstairs in the main part of the house. The house is very large with high ceilings and VERY cold when the temperature drops. The owner blamed the lack of heat on the wind storm that we had during our stay, but the heat was not working before the storm. Most of the furniture is old, dilapated and uncomfortable. The pool and spa are wonderful and the view beautiful, but the surrounding land is unkempt. There was a bad wind storm when we were there and it took the owner 3 days to get the pool cleaned after the storm. The pool was filled with debris from the trees and shattered glass from a broken table that was on the pool deck. There is NO outside built-in bbq, sink and fridge! There are 2 gas grills but only one was working. The laundry area is large (2 washers and 2 dryers) but as mentioned in an earlier review the room is loaded with piles of stuff...certainly this area could be cleaned up and organized. The water in one upstairs bathroom sink had to be turned off using the valve underneath the sink...a problem that was mentioned in a December review and still had not been repaired. These are just some of the issues we encountered during our stay. Please be aware! The house has not been maintained properly. We were visiting as a family with 6 adults and 6 children and tried to make the best of the situation. We have stayed in many rental properties over the years, and this was the most disappointing and misleading property we have ever visited. Please think twice before booking this home. I wish I had.

A Beautiful home with breathtaking views in all directions!! Plenty of room for all 16 of us and more. The pool and spa were a big hit for all ages! A great family trip!!

Although we really enjoyed our week in La Jolla, and the view from the property was beautiful, the house and grounds left much to be desired. Dated and well loved is certainly acceptable, but a couch entirely stabilized by particle board, a fridge that repeatedly shorted out, numerous nonfunctioning outlets, inoperable smoke detectors, cracked windows, mold in showers and on bathroom ceilings, debris and discarded items outdoors, a nearly unusable grill, and dilapidated outdoor furniture, can’t be considered castle worthy. Unfortunately, the list doesn’t end there. The laundry room was stacked with random items, pots and pans had no matching lids, a pullout couch didn’t pull out, lightbulbs were burned out in more than one room, and a bathroom sink leaked and could only be stopped by turning off the water source at the sink. As far as advertised features, the spa did not heat properly (rendering it useless), and there definitely was no built in grill/fridge/sink/casita outside. It’s probably best to take that out of a property description if it doesn’t exist. Aside from the sheer volume of work needed, there’s not much David could have done since he left town while we were there, and had us receiving numerous packages on his behalf. We enjoyed our time as a family and lived with the issues as we discovered them, but it’s important for future guests to consider the pros and cons before booking this home. I’m sure the home was amazing in its day, but it hasn’t been properly maintained. If you are looking for a very large and VERY casual property, this may work for you. If you find any of the above concerning, you may want to keep looking. Issues were documented by photograph and video.

We loved everything about this property! Tons of space, incredible views and fully stocked. Our extended family had a wonderful time. Cannot overstate the views from the large patio and pool area!! Would definitely recommend and will stay again!!!

We stayed in the Castle in the Sky for a brief but fun-filled family Thanksgiving vacation. The property was lovely, with breathtakingly expansive ocean views from many areas of the property, including the pool/deck, the great room (floor to ceiling windows), the study, dining room and several bedroom balconies. We were looking for a place where our family could engage with each other and enjoy, but also have "elbow room" to spare for all who stayed in the enormous house. It did not disappoint. David, our host, was fantastic. Gracious, engaging and responsive to our every need communicated to him during our stay. Thanks David! You rock!

We had 3 families kids ranging from 2-8 and the house worked great for us! The views are spectacular! The location is walkable to town and perfect to enjoy all La Jolla has to offer. The house is spacious and open! We loved it!

It was a painless process. As advertised, the house was spot on. The owner was very personable and very helpful. He met us at the house and showed us all around. If we ever need a vacation rental as large, we won’t hesitate to contact the owner.

Beautiful view and great location. Walking distance to town. The home owner was very willing to help. Very kind owner who immediately responded to our needs like when the dishwasher broke.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The property was exactly as pictured; wonderful views and amenities. David was there to greet us and to make sure we had everything we might need (including a Pack n Play). We are already talking about a return trip.

Dave was wonderful, accommodated our change in flights and even purchased pack n plays for our little ones! The pool, hot tub and that view, truly can’t be beat. The house was perfect for our large multi generation family, loved that the grandkids had their own space with the large open room and bedroom above the garage. We had a fabulous week in La Jolla!

We recently stayed in this amazing home for a three-generation family vacation, arriving from Texas and Colorado. Although the furnishings definitely show some wear and tear, the property makes up for that in so many ways. The house is spacious and private with amazing views. We spent most of our time in back enjoying the beautiful balcony, spa, and pool area. What an environment to return to after exploring the town and surrounding area! An unexpected bonus was the hospitality of our host Dave. He was friendly, helpful, and available, yet unobtrusive during our stay. All in all everyone in our group agreed it was a wonderful experience!

I rented for extended family to attend a wedding - family stayed in the house but only half the group due to a family emergency. I’m told it is a VERY Nice & Clean property consistent with the listing. I thought the outside evening curfew was reasonable. But I have to say I was surprised to find out when planning check in that the owner was staying ON the property in a guest house while my guests were there. It wasn’t an issue but also wasn’t what I expected. I think curfew and owner presence should be in the listing info.
