Beautiful relaxing accomadations . Perfect location. Staff were amaxing.

I was staying in a suite located in the Palace annex and found operating the remote heating controls challenging in fact it wasn't until the morning of my checkout that I was able to turn on some heat in the bedroom part which remained cold up until that time. The TV/ Netflix equipment was also confusing. I reccomend putting operation guides for both in the room

It was a real treat to stay here. Like you stepped back in time. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. We enjoyed the old style elevator.

It would have been nice to have a wheelchair accessible ramp or lift at the parking lot entrance for easier access to and from parking.

very comfortable beds and a nice breakfast. very friendly and helpful staff.

no microwave or mini frig in the room. I can't recall if this was mentioned in the online description, but it has become pretty standard in most decent hotels/motels, and so I was surprised not to find these items present. also, although one of the bedrooms has a closet to hang clothes, the 2nd bedroom had no closet or hangers. Not a big deal, though it might have been were I staying longer than one night.

Beautiful! Enjoyed the historical aspect. Great breakfast! Very close proximity to the train (literally steps), which was why we were there.

The only thing was we had to change rooms, because the same room wasn’t available 2 nights in a row. But, they made it easy.

We loved the old fashioned charm of the hotel. The room was spacious. The lobby had many sitting areas. Free coffee ( and it’s good) 24 hours a day. The staff was incredible. Good value.

Very pleasant one night stay overall. Excellent location and great service.

The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the location was great, the room was very comfortable, and the breakfast buffet was good. This historic hotel had classic and well maintained architecture and works great when taking the train to Silverton.

Historic but dated

The lobby is beautiful, with lots of historical character. The young man who checked me into the hotel was very kind and helpful. The breakfast was good, albeit unspectacular.

My room felt dated. I know it's a historic hotel, but there is a difference between feeling historic and feeling dated. "Dated" means the owners of the hotel have not bothered to renovate/update the rooms to make them feel contemporary. Changes to a few little things could have made a big difference. Here are some suggestions: 1) Install a modern, EZ-to-use HVAC system. The unit in my room came with a remote control that had so many buttons on it, a NASA engineer would have been confused. 2) Upgrade the bathroom. The shower felt dated, the body-wash/shampoo bottles looked cheap, and on the bathroom sink there was a tiny little bar of soap - and I mean TINY. This smacked of meanness. A grand hotel should not makes its guests feel like they only deserve a tiny little bar of soap. 3) The bed was uncomfortable; too firm. 4) Install more electrical outlets, particularly near the bedside tables. Yes, people didn't have nearly as many electrical/rechargeable devices back in the day, but today we need easy access to electrical outlets for recharging. 5) Some of the desk-clerks were less than warm. Like I said, the young man who checked me in was really kind and warm, but some of the other clerks were somewhat less welcoming.

A delightful historic hotel in the heart of town

We picked this hotel for its convenience and its history and it did not disappoint on either score. It has a lovely historic feel and it is right in the centre of town so very convenient for restaurants and shops (and the train) It also has free parking on site. The front desk staff went out of their way to be helpful.

No complaints but do make sure you book a room with a window (there are a number of internal rooms without windows)

A wonderful experience staying in this Old Historic Hotel in Durango, really gives a feel of the old west.

Historic , perfect location, Great Parking, fabulous decor/Old but a perfect experience. Staff are so nice. Beds are soooooo comfortable - best on our road trip. Fantastic balcony to watch the sunset.

We fell in love with this property when we first went in 2019. Even though Durango has several properties, The General Palmer has exactly what I want: location, nostalgia and a great staff. The front desk clerk, Chandler was exceptional and I'm sure if we'd met other staff, they'd be equally knowledgeable and professional.

An in-room fridge would have been nice.

Very clean and well maintained hotel. This was an unexpected stop over as my travel was delayed due to road closure. Traveling alone, I felt safe at this hotel. Breakfast was good too.

Amazing place with incredible customer service!

First off, Chandler was awesome!!! Great customer service. The hotel was also amazing. Rooms were perfect and amazing also. The hotel itself still held that old charm but didn't feel old, just perfect!
