Camping Chalets Lake Saint Augustine is a large campsite with many RVs, cabins, playgrounds/activity products for kids, communal bathrooms/laundry room, and several private cabins with own bathrooms for rent, lakeside. We stayed in one of those cabins (#11). Likes: The cabin’s lakeside location was the draw as it offers peaceful and nature-filled views endowed by a large lake with distant mansions on a hillside across the way. At the time of our arrival, the cabins were sold-out. In general, the guests from other cabins were respectful of “quiet hours” and also took advantage of the fire-pits located in front of each cabin and campsite. Many didn’t douse their lit ashes and burnt logs prior to retiring, so if you are sensitive to smoke in the next cabin (watch out!). Many guests had children and brought their canoes, fishing rods, and even speed boat. The place was targeted for families that want to experience the outdoors with convenient must-have amenities.
The cabin (2 bedrooms/1 bath) has bare minimal amenities: 1.25 rolls of toilet paper for 4 people, zero paper towel, zero tissue box, 1 thin bath towel/1 face towel for each person, 1 rather flat pillow (used too many times) for each person, and barely enough thrift-store hangers in each bedroom closet. Nice to have two QUEEN beds but the bedrooms are small with about 6 inches between the bed and entry door. No extra pillows. No extra blankets (though we didn’t need them mid-May.) Windows were old and very difficult to open for air. Air conditioning didn’t work after plugging to wall. Small linoleum bathroom/very small shower (though with dependable hot water). In our opinion, the cabin is way overdue for maintenance and a facelift. We paid CAD $475.30 for two nights (or CAD $237.65 per night) for 2-bedroom cabin. 23 minutes each Uber drive to/from Old City, Quebec, so if this is your destination for site-seeing, expect to pay CAD $32-$35 per trip x 2 (for roundtrip) or $64-$70 (before tips) minimum each day. We were sightseeing and away from the cabin for the majority of the day, both days. The Quebec Airport is only 10 minutes drive away. So, waiting for Uber was not a problem. We also texted the drivers to come down the single paved road with yellow slow-speed bumpers to the lakeside, so we didn’t have to walk the quarter mile to the front desk. Taking Uber beats renting a car and paying for parking in Old City. If you plan to tour Old City and Montmorency Falls, it’s probably more convenient (and more of a cultural experience) for you to stay in Old City. If you want to experience outdoors in a large family-oriented camp ground in Quebec, stay here.
