Thompson Hall Retreat

Beautiful surroundings, so peaceful and relaxing, hot tub (once hot) was lovely, sauna fantastic, had everything you need for a short stay, good heating and hot water

Struggled to get the hot tub hot on the first night, it was 25° when we got there, by about 10pm we'd got it to 32° and then gave up, so wasted wood, we are not used to lighting fires etc, lit it again the next morning at 7am and got it to 38° by 9am, we stayed for 2 nights and wanted to use the tub all the time, got through a lot of wood which you have to buy extra, cabin could've been a bit cleaner, needs a bit of TLC like sloping shelves, plastic cloudy cracked glasses, needed replacing, took us ages to figure out how the shower worked

The location was very peaceful and the Hot Tub was amazing! Hosts were very friendly and attentive.

The bed was quite high to get up onto.

Quiet location set in woodland with views across a field. The shepherd's hut was warm and cosy and the outdoor sheltered area was well equipped with kitchen, free-standing bath, heater and deck chairs. The wood-fired hot-tub was a great addition, looking out across fields under the stars. There are several other huts nearby, but each is private and sheltered. Goats wander about the site, which is charming. I didn't use the spa, but I had a nosy around and it was clean and well-serviced. The outdoor swimming pool (pond) also looked nice with clear water and a pebble floor - too cold to attempt a plunge. Would recommend and return.

Liked the remote location and surroundings. Peaceful and nice for walking.

I wasn’t expecting the cabin to be in the middle of a field. Not a fan of astroturf but understand convenience but condition was poor. However, the outdoor furniture was atrocious. Broken, rotting and had obviously been neglected for years. Whilst cabin was clean, it too was shabby. With a little TLC, it would be far nicer.
