Experience total privacy and a unique architectural perspective in the most secluded unit of our family-operated property. Casa Matapalo is an elevated, tropical wood home designed to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings, offering panoramic views of the lush mountains from every space.
The Space: Comfort Meets Tropical Architecture
Designed with high ceilings and an open-concept layout to maximize natural ventilation and light, this home offers:
Private Bedroom: Features a Queen-size bed with panoramic views of the gardens and mountains. Includes A/C and floor fan for personalized comfort.
Seamless Living: A fully open-air equipped kitchen and social area that opens directly onto a private balcony with a hammock—ideal for morning coffee while birdwatching.
Modern Amenities: Fast Fiber Optic Wi-Fi (ideal for remote work) and TV.
Refining the Tropical Experience: The bathroom features a fresh-water shower (unheated), which is refreshing and standard for authentic tropical living in our coastal climate.
Location & Exclusive Access
While located in a peaceful area away from the hustle of the center, you are only a 5-minute drive from Jacó’s beach, surf breaks, and restaurants.
The Lookout: Guests enjoy access to a private viewpoint just a short walk from the house, offering stunning ocean views—the perfect spot for sunset.

To ensure the total privacy and the "treetop" views that define Casa Matapalo, please consider the following:
Arrival: A 4x4 vehicle is recommended to access the property’s private road comfortably.
The Climb: Access to the house involves approximately 70 steps from the parking area. This elevation is what guarantees the unmatched views and seclusion; however, it may not be suitable for guests with mobility concerns.
Nature Immersion: The house is inmersed in a tropical setting. You will likely see iguanas, toucans, and butterflies. We provide mosquito nets for the bed and recommend repellent for the outdoor areas to ensure your comfort.

We were met by the host who showed us around. The property was spectacular with a great view. If you’re looking for a place where you can be one with nature this is it. The only negative was the shower had very little water pressure and was just a stream coming out. And it was cold. However it was fine for us only staying one night.

The house is as beautiful we we imagined! The windows look out over the jungle and it's absolutely stunning. The outdoor kitchen was a great way to spend our breakfast, and we were able to even enjoy the hammock on the deck outside of the bedroom as well. Our biggest complaints were the shower did not have a head attached to it was only a trickle of water coming out. It also didn't have hot water, which we found out later is pretty common in Costa Rica. Feels nice after hiking up the hill to get to the house, but not great in the morning. I think the house could use some find tuning, there are a couple spots with large gaps which really just waste air conditioning, and it would be nice to have hooks or something in the bathroom. You also definitely need 4 wheel drive to get to the house. We even had to use 4L to get back out. But the beds were glorious and I would still definitely recommend this home! The view alone is worth it!
