Zamaros Traditional Villa

The accommodation is very peaceful, spacious, and comfortable. It's easy to make the house feel cool. The pool area is delightful, not overlooked, and the pool is a pleasant temperature to cool off. Nektarios attends the pool early each morning. You have three tavernas in walking distance - one very close. Car hire is essential unless you are happy to stay at the villa and use the three tavernas. Platanes beach is easy to access with ample free parking, Lidl nearby, and travel in to Rethymno is easy once you've sussed out going via the top main road. It's worth popping in to the little chapel in the walkway approach to the villa. We had Polygonia Egea butterflies by the pool (yes I had to look that up!) and Griffon Vultures circling high above.

It's mentioned quite often but the stairs are narrow. It is clear in the details that the bedroom is not on the same level as the bathroom so for those of a certain age something to consider ! There's zero storage in the kitchen. The pool is quite hard to get in and out of if you have an encumbrance,. Parking is not great. You are very lucky if you can park outside the villa. Alternative is on street a bit of a steep walk away.

The pool, garden and villa are all great. Perfect weather, perfect location. Nektarios was very warm and welcoming even though our flight was delayed and we arrived late. Photos don't do it justice!

Host was first class and always responded to our messages for help when we needed it, for example when we locked ourselves out of the house at 9pm, he came and helped us. Our arrival flight was delayed so he waited up until 02.30 to meet us. Nektarios came to clean the poool each day and on the last day, without prompting from us suggested that we stay until 4pm rather than checking out at the standard 11am.

Spiral staircase was ok, but my wife didn’t like it as she is not as steady on her feet. The doorways are a bit low and I banged my head a few times before I got used to it.

The host met us on arrival.
