About this house rental
The house in question is the former pastor's office of Altenau. It is one of the oldest houses in the city (Anno 1604) and a very special one ...
You rent the entire house for yourself! Except for the front entrance area on the ground floor.
The accommodation
A marmot may not greet you here every day, it will probably be a wild boar or maybe a lynx. But if you have seen the film "and the marmot greets you every day" and maybe pick up the mood in town during dinner in one of the 6 restaurants in the village or during the day on the street, you will remember the film.
We are hamburgers. In order to escape the chaos of the big city and to relax, we have been going to the Harz for many years.
At some point we discovered Altenau, the climatic health resort, we fell in love with the house with its special location and bought it. Since this is our second home, we would like to share it with you.
The house: 171 square meters are available. A staircase leads from the entrance area to the middle floor. The living area spreads generously over about 100 square meters.
The living room: It consists of two open spaces with several comfortable sofas, a TV + DVD player with approx. 60 films for young and old, a desk and a bookcase full of novels (from "love" to "murder and mortal blow "everything is included.
Free wifi.
The large kitchen and the dining room: Both are also open to each other. Here you can cook, bake, especially eat together, study hiking maps and everything else you can do at a large table. The table can comfortably accommodate ten people.
The hallway: No matter from which room, you always get into the large hallway with the stairs up and down. In the middle floor you could, so to speak, in a cycle. The toilet and a separate bathroom with shower are in the hallway. Since the house is on a slope, you can also access the terrace from this level / hallway. If any of you would like to smoke one or the other cigarette, you will appreciate this area, because smoking is of course not permitted in the house.
The bedrooms: You can reach the four bedrooms via the stairs up. There are two quite large bedrooms, each with a double bed 180 cm wide (two 90x200 cm mattresses) and an additional single bed (90 x 200 cm)
The two smaller bedrooms each have a double bed 160 cm wide (two 80 x 200 cm mattresses).
On this floor there is also a small bathroom with a toilet.
Altenau is very centrally located in the Harz Mountains and is therefore an ideal starting point for many activities. Altenau itself has 7 restaurants, a bakery, a supermarket, a pharmacy, its own brewery, a snack bar, a bank and a post office. The supermarket and the bakery are open every day.
You can get all the info material and personal advice on the subject of "Excursions in the Harz at the tourist information Oberharz, which is fortunately located in Altenau and not far from our house. About 5 minutes walk.
What is the special situation now?

If you come to visit us in the summer, then be sure to check out Europe's largest herb park with spice gallery, also within walking distance.
The Harzer Hexen-Stieg also begins in Altenau. The route between Altenau and Torfhaus is known as the most beautiful and for the most part leads along the narrow trenches of the UNESCO World Heritage "Upper Harz Water Management".
A wonderful experience on hot summer days is swimming in the "forest swimming pond" and warmly recommended. Of course it's free for everyone and yes! only walking distance away.
Should it pour a day like from buckets (and not only then), the crystal hot spring "Hot Brocken" with its great swimming pools and saunas is a nice alternative to enjoy your stay, and that is within walking distance.
In winter, the rain quickly turns into snow, at 500 meters it happens even more often. Altenau has its own ski and sledge mountain "Auf der Rose" Ski - and sledge lift are available. Great fun for young and old is therefore guaranteed.
So pack up the mulled wine, grab the sled (we have some for you) and go sledding, of course on foot .-)
Access for guests
We make our house available to you. The entrance area is on the ground floor. There are two separate entrances on the left and right for rooms used temporarily by the church. You have no access there. Only after you have walked through the door with the glass pane are you completely in your realm .-)
Interaction with guests:
The "check in"
is possible from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The house is not suitable for parties. We have neighbors. After 9:00 p.m., speaking on the terrace is only allowed to be adequately quiet.
Our outdoor furniture, the parasol and the grill are available from April to mid-October.
Since we are not on site, you will be greeted by our property manager.
You will be received directly at the house.
If you do not want to bring your own bed linen, you have the option here to borrow one from our manager. Of course, a bedding package includes bed sheets and two towels. The price for one person is 10, -Euro.
As it should be in the mountains, there is also a very beautiful wooden church. We see them as an asset to the location of the house (see photos). The tower of the church regularly rings the time. So if you have a very light slack, you might feel disturbed by the church bells.
The neighborhood
The Harz National Park is ideal for hiking, mountain biking and, of course, winter sports. From the front door you could walk on the Brocken, but you should be good on foot, because it is almost 20 km to Brockenspitze.
The treetop path is not only a must for families with children.
The old imperial city of Goslar can be reached in 20 minutes by car. Worth seeing the UNESCO world cultural heritage Rammelsberg.

From there buses go to Clausthal-Zellerfeld, St. Andreasberg, Goslar etc.

- The house is not suitable for parties.
After 9:00 p.m., we ask out of respect for our neighbors to limit the volume on the terrace to a reasonable level
- Since we are not on site, it is not possible for us to provide you with bed linen and towels. Please bring your own laundry and towels with you. You also have the option of renting bed linen and towels from our property manager. The price per person and set is a one-time fee of EUR 10.
- Please leave our house clean and tidy, as it was found. Cleaning the toilets, vacuuming and wiping
the floors are taken care of by our nice domestic help. Your share is
for this 45.00 euros.
- Please note that a tourist tax of € 2 per day and person (over 18 years) has to be paid to the spa administration (children over 6 years) € 1.37.
The visitor's tax must be paid in cash to our property managers upon arrival. You will receive the spa cards with various discounts. Various information material for the resin is available in the
Tourist information about 5 minutes walk from the house.

Ein sehr schönes Haus mit 4 Schlafzimmern, perfekt für unser Familientreffen. Die große Wohnküche, 2 Wohnzimmerbereiche und die schöne Terrasse mit Grill boten genügend Platz. Alles ist sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet.

Wir waren als Großfamilie dort und hatten eine schöne Zeit.
Es gibt genug Platz für alle am großen Esstisch und zum Verweilen in den beiden Wohnzimmern.
Die vier Schlafzimmer sind geräumig.
Es gibt ein Badezimmer mit Badewanne und Toilette, eine Badezimmer mit Dusche sowie ein separates Gäste-WC.
Die Küche ist sehr gut ausgestattet.
Die Kommunikation mit der Vermieterin war hervorragend und unkompliziert.
An die Kirchenglocken konnten wir uns gewöhnen :)
Das Haus ist aufgrund der Dielen ein bisschen hellhörig, fanden wir aber nicht so schlimm.
Insgesamt ein schöner Aufenthalt für die ganze Familie, wo jeder seinen Platz fand.
