Inside the house, you’ll find a bright and cozy living room (22 m²), an open fireplace, a dining area with a large oak table and 6 chairs, a sideboard, a reading nook with 2 armchairs, and a floor lamp with a side table. The first bedroom (14 m²) features a double bed (2.00 x 1.80 m), a child’s bed, a large closet, a floor lamp, nightstands, and reading lamps. The second bedroom (12 m²) has two single beds (2.00 x 0.90 m), nightstands, reading lamps, and a large built-in closet. The kitchen (10 m²) is well-equipped but not a built-in kitchen. There is also a bathroom, a separate toilet, a garage, and a fenced-in yard. Advantages: Safety: electric water heater and stove; excellent location, with sun and shade throughout the day depending on where you sit; relatively large, bright rooms; well-equipped with all the comforts expected today. TV with satellite dish (including German channels). Parking available on the property; the property is fenced and the patio area (at the back of the house) is secluded. Reliable on-site staff. The bicycles are all German-made models from a previous generation. Although they have gear shifters, their design is old-fashioned, and they don’t ride as smoothly as modern bikes. If you plan to cycle frequently or for long distances, you’re better off renting a bike or bringing your own.

The Vendée: The Vendée is the southernmost department of Brittany. The Gulf Stream and the Azores High give this part of the Atlantic coast a mild and sunny microclimate. That is why the Vendée coastline in France is called the “Coast of Light” (Côte de Lumière). Along the coast, vacationers will find long, wide sandy bays attractively punctuated by rocky outcrops, vast dunes teeming with rich flora and fauna in all seasons, and large, contiguous forest belts. The resort town of Bretignolles has excellent infrastructure. Thanks to the pleasant, warm climate, many affluent retirees have made it their home. There is no mass tourism here, nor are there any high-rises

Information on getting there and the surrounding area: From Germany, the fastest way to reach the resort towns is via the Paris–Nantes highway. The distance is approximately 800 km from Saarbrücken and about 1,000 km from Cologne. It is possible to make the trip in a single day, as the toll highways in France are in impeccable condition and much less congested than what we’re used to in Germany. Bypassing Paris is also straightforward; Route 104, “La Francilienne,” takes you smoothly around the French metropolis in 30–45 minutes. For those who prefer to break up the trip into stages, I recommend staying overnight in Reims, Chartres, or along the Loire River, where there are many interesting sights to see and numerous, affordable lodging options available.
