location and vibes
too many non hotel guests that get priority accommodation over paying guests. if you want to be an event space, be that, but people paying for a hotel service with no room service available and blaring music new year’s day morning after celebrating NYE was the worst way to wake up. couldn’t use the pool area to relax in the morning bc of the “yoga party” that non guests took over the space. no dinner at the restaurant unless you do prefix- and the prefix had no options my husband could eat. the staff doesn’t seem to give a crap about accommodating guests that have been coming here for years. it’s very much no longer a boutique hotel cute and austin-ish. it’s become another money grub corporate headache. i used to love coming here to reset and relax but they seem to care more about catering to influencers and doing it for the gram with their little events than making sure guests have a good experience. i saw peoples cars getting hit in the parking lot. they over sell spaces for overnight then make ppl double park illegally ( in fire lanes)
It used to feel like a peaceful oasis, a romantic getaway, now it feels frustrating, over stimulating and like every other corporate regulated business. it took them 40 minutes to bring ice to our room! i got SICK from the undercooked pork i ate during their happy hour (since we weren’t allowed to have regular dinner service)
it’s funny too bc NO ONE EVEN CAME TO THEIR PREFIX DINNER. the restaurant was dead yet, us as guests COULDN’T GET FOOD.
TBH, one of the worst experiences that i actually paid for.

Beautiful space in the rooms and common areas. The attached cafe was great. Bed was comfy, but for the price, small. Same for the room. There was barely enough space to walk around one side of the bed. And for two people, with luggage, it was cramped.
Overpriced. Everything else was great.

Boutique style resort in a great location. Very lovely grounds. Great location close to Barton Springs, UT and Terry Black’s BBQ.
Can’t think of anything.

This was our 3rd or 4th stay. Lovely property in a great location with amenities.
The price was stated clearly on the 3rd party booking app, but we were charged more upon arrival. They just ran our card at the higher amount without explanation and we only caught it after the fact. They couldn’t explain the price difference except that a deposit was taken that we will get bank in a few days. I imagine we will be calling them again. Price difference was about 85 dollars more for the night.

The vibe was perfect & the grounds were beautiful. Felt like we were in a Wes Anderson movie. The pool was well maintained. The coffee shop had a delicious quiche!
Paying guests should have access to free coffee in the morning or, at minimum, a coffee maker in the room.

Nice, hip property with great vibe and fellow guests in good location especially if you like access to the trail/bridges.
There was nothing we did not like.

I was attending a performance at The Zach and the hotel was a convenient location. Being near a variety of eateries/ restaurants and a market was a plus.
The bed is a bit low.
Pool was full of leaves, an easy fix (mechanical cleaning or daily skimming)

Coffee was excellent, staff super happy and friendly
Rooms were awful, trendy to a fault. Really uncomfortable beds. Just an awkward hotel would not recommend.

We absolutely loved everything about our stay at the Carpenter Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt thoughtful and relaxed. The daily happy hour was such a fun perk and made for a great way to unwind in the afternoon. We were also welcomed with a complimentary drink from the coffee shop, which was a luxurious touch that set the tone for the rest of our visit.
One of our favorite features was the ability to order food and drinks directly to the pool. Every detail, from the stylish design to the friendly staff, made the entire stay feel special. I'm planning my next staycation here already!
Parking was expensive. Feels like that should be a bit cheaper. I can't think of anything else that could be improved! We didn't want to leave.

The proximity to Zilker Park and Barton Springs Pool is so great!
The TV glitched out a lot. It would allow me to start a show on Netflix for 5 min and then turn off or reset itself back to the Home screen. We also could not connect to the bluetooth speaker.

The Carpenter Hotel had a beautiful, eclectic atmosphere. It was perfectly cozy with a coffee bar and restaurant. The coffee bar had delicious coffee and the hotel had plenty of other food options around it within walking distance. The staff were beyond friendly and accommodating.

I love everything about the carpenter. The ultra-lush landscaping and gorgeous pool is definitely at the top
This is almost entirely out of their control but the mosquitos were absolutely ferocious and I’m wondering if there’s any way to spray more heavily to control that

I think there should be a carpenters hotel and major city in US. I love the layout with the restaurant bar and coffee shop and then hotel separately.

This is a good location in Austin if you like to do a lot of sightseeing on foot. About 20 minutes on foot in a couple directions will get you to Barton Springs, Congress St, or Downtown without any nonsense. The hotel is solid, quiet, clean and has a unique look we enjoyed. Close to a bunch of restaurants, plus the hotel has its own. We'd choose this again.

I loved how cozy and vibrant the property was - the pool and restaurant/coffee shop vibes were fun. I also like how close it is to downtown while feeling tucked away.
It wasn't the end of the world but the industrial-style concrete flooring lacked the warmth I usually prefer in a hotel room.

Great location, sense of community, and overall experience! Everything was great from the moment we booked our room, to check-in, stay, and check out. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Beautiful boutique hotel that truly honors what makes Austin, Austin!
My only complaint were the tvs. I loved that they’re smart tvs but they’re limited and run a little too slow.

Super clean property, yummy coffee and received a welcome bubbly :)
I paid $276 for the hotel room and had to pay a total of $400 due to hold, parking fee and hotel tax. Yikes. The soap shampoo and conditioner smelled like hobo who smokes weed all day but to each their own I could’ve brought my own soaps. There’s no phone outlets unless you have a block for it

The hotel is beautiful, well located. The food at the restaurant was incredible! Some of the best food I had this year for sure. The coffee of the hotel café is also great.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
The rooms are pretty and comfortable with loads of little thoughtful details.

Beautiful ground around the well apportioned hotel. Excellent location for exploring Austin Texas wonderful restaurant as part of the hotel. Wonderful café for the morning and nice outdoor grounds for enjoying that coffee. The pool is quite nice and you can get drinks delivered to Poolside.
Really it was very nice all the way around

A very cool and chic hotel in a great location. We loved our brutalist but comfortable rooms. The pool was gorgeous.
It would have been nice to have had complementary coffee/hot water available 24/7 for guests as no facilities in room.

The hotel is definitively great. Great environment, Good location. It runs away from standard hotel places where you feel confined in an building - really loved the stay.
We loved the coffee, however, did not enjoy the restaurant (we had better experiences in other restaurants in the Area). This was a bit sad because we did have plans to have dinner or hang out around more than we actually did.

There was no breakfast available just small things from attached coffee shop, location was great.
No breakfast available, restaurant sometimes closed without announcements.

Location and hotel vibe was outstanding! We loved all the tiny design elements as well!
The restaurant had a weird smell but the coffee shop and communal areas were fantastic!

The location was convenient to the pedestrian bridge to walk about Lady Bird Lake and downtown. It was about 10 minute walk to the Palmer Event Center and 25 minutes to Congress Ave. It had a nice outdoor area and a decent menu at the restaurant. Most staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful.
The room itself - just the basics and nothing more. The bed is super low to the floor. The pillows are very flat and the mattress was firm. The bed was directly under the vent and it was putting out little black flakes on the white comforter, which smeared like charcoal dust when wiped away. There are no drawers - just shelves with a couple hangers. The bathroom counter was also very low with 2 very small sinks and faucets that blocked the center - awkward. There is a dog daycare/boarding facility right below the left side of the facility and the dogs were barking all day. (Our room was not on that side - just a note.) There is no coffee available in the room. However, they do have a coffee shop with small breakfast items on property, which is open to the public, so it was hit or miss if seating was available. The on site restaurant doesn’t open til 11am. The dining area was loud at times and young children were throwing the gravel rocks and empty cans to keep them occupied with little redirection from the adults.

Loved the location of the hotel. Perfect size hotel and loved that it was pet friendly. We had our service dog and he loved it.
3.0 / 10.0
The location with proximity to the city is nice. However, this is more like a motel and doesn’t have any security. My biggest complaint is that my room overlooked a doggy daycare where multiple dogs barked day and night. I also had my dog with me and this was so disruptive for both of us. There was no way I could enjoy the balcony and then when I went down to the pool, I can still hear the dogs barking.
As a heads up, I would look to make sure there aren’t any events at the hotel if you’re looking for more of a quiet retreat . This is a very lively hotel and well that was fun at times it’s certainly not going to be a vibe.

Very hip design-focused hotel with lots of nice "bonuses" like a powerful bluetooth speaker in the room, plenty of shelves, racks and hooks, stocked mini-bar, free bike rental, cafe on site, etc. I appreciated the communication via text message (like a normal person...) and the flexibility on check-in time and some other adjustments I had to make to my reservation. Awesome location for driving to Austin-area sights, though it is a bit of a hike to downtown (Uber/Lyft is cheap here, and it's an easy pick-up/drop-off spot).
The pool was nice, but frigid, in April. I don't know if it's unheated or just not turned on, I didn't ask. My room was missing a few of the room service request indicators (magnets to put on the door). I wish the restaurant had opened a little earlier or closed later - never got to try it, and it seems like it would be a cool place to hang out late into the evening. Room prices are a bit high in my opinion, and the additional charge for parking was a bit unexpected, given that the hotel has a dedicated garage.
4.0 / 10.0
It has a style and it’s unique. The food in the restaurant was pretty good.
I was shocked to find out that there is no coffee machine in the room. So there is no way to make coffee or tea. Instead, the idea is to go down to the coffee shop and pay a hefty price for a coffee, for instance 4.25$ for a cup of cortado. In the hotel at almost 400$ per night I would expect a coffee machine.
Also, if your room is facing the parking lot, it’s extremely noisy with all kinds of noises from running train to service vehicles early in the morning. We should have been warned about this issue when we checked in.
