It's location on the hadrian's wall path is convenient.
Unfortunately a big mixup on payment resulted in them requesting payment more than once. After attempting to resolve this with members of staff at the property was then sent another bill by email a week after my stay. This despite having staff reassure me it had all been dealt with (and I had certainly been charged). Being asked to check my account to ensure I hadn't been charged twice doesn't fill with confidence, but to then receive another bill after this takes the Mickey a bit.
Also a miscommunication about mealtimes. Sunday food serving takes last orders at 5:30pm, nothing necessarily wrong with that. I checked the evening before and was told that the breakfast would begin service at 9:00am (very late when you are walking). I then arrived for breakfast at 9:05 and the entire property was locked. Not just no breakfast but no service of any kind. I would have understood if they weren't serving breakfast, but in that case the staff should have been made aware of this information so that when I asked I could have made other arrangements. Essentially I was left late, hungry and being chased for a bill I had already paid.
Overall the staff seemed lacking the basic information they needed to perform their duties. They were made to look clueless by inadequate management practices.

Nice location, excellent staff
Lack of staff the ones working were run of their feet trying to do everything .
NO BREAKFAST and food at night poor

Friendly staff. Handy for me to rowing clubs and Hadrian’s Wall route.
A bit dated in terms of the rooms.

Location was great for our rowing race, bed was comfortable, very powerful shower and had opening windows rather than Aircon.
We were made to feel an inconvenience when we arrived, we were late to check in but had phoned before hand and told this wouldn't be a problem. Food service stopped at 8pm and breakfast wasn't served until 9am with no flexibility. We therefore had to have dinner somewhere else (hence the late check-in...) and had to miss breakfast. They were unable to offer us anything for breakfast other than some apples. There is no one on site overnight. We accidentally locked a key in one of the rooms in the morning as we were packing to leave and then could not get back in and could not get hold of anyone at the pub as there was no-one on site. We phoned and left messages to try and get hold of someone but apparently the phone number goes to the office and there is no-one there on the weekend!
Rooms were quite dated and not very clean, particularly the carpet and there were some hairs in the bathroom. The rooms are not in the main pub - we were in two separate buildings at opposite ends of the site, one involved making our way through a marquee.

Great location and comfy bed
Room 8:
The shower water temperature could not be adjusted from scalding hot and the bath plug does not work
The extractor fan, despite coming on, must be blocked as it does not extract
The heating is very difficult to control. We cooked all night unless the french doors were open, which is then not secure
The bathroom radiator is unsightly with peeling paint and copious rust
Our original allocated room had not been cleaned and had no bedding.

Clean, good location, friendly staff.
A bit tired - radiator couldn’t be turned off as cap was broken so room was very hot, blind couldn’t be lowered as no chain.

It’s a lovely old building
This place doesn’t do breakfast!
They say it’s available, but it’s NOT
There’s nothing in close proximity to get a breakfast either.

Location for where I was working, plenty of parking, nice pub and food, friendly staff.
No breakfast offered at that time.

The building looks impressive.
The accommodation was too hot . The entrance of the building to the rooms was like a sauna so were the rooms .

Staff here are great, always friendly, always helpful. It's in an ideal position, welcoming for dogs and great walks around. The room isn't huge but certainly big enough, there is always hot water and a great shower.
Room was very hot. In general it is starting to get difficult to eat out in the evenings around Newcastle, and having a dog we don't want to be going into the city.

Good size room and bathroom, comfortable bed, well furnished.
Entire Salmon lodge was unduly warm, might be appreciated later in year, but a bit uncomfortable for Autumn.

Nice comfortable room with a bar and restaurant on site. Plenty of free parking. Best Sunday roast of our entire 6 week trip.
Nothing really. It was a bit out of town, but I knew that when booking. Bus was a 10 minute walk .

Dinner and breakfast was very good, although more staff was needed to help serve breakfast.
Our room ‘Salmon Lodge’ had not tea coffee making facilities, no biscuits and no water, which would have been most welcomed after hiking for 10 hours.

Arriving at The Keelman is quite remarkable. Set close to the river, in an attractive spacious wooded setting, this imaginatively converted former pumping station, is an intriguing find within the outer part of Newcastle's urban development. My accommodation was in one of two buildings set apart from the main function building. Plenty of good, safe car parking is provided which is a particular bonus in Newcastle - try parking in Jesmond! I found the staff most pleasant and helpful. The food was straightforward and enjoyable and my cooked breakfast was generous and also enjoyed.
I had a pleasant room (Salmon, 10), well presented, with all the usual facilities. Unfortunately, although the room had "heavy" curtains they did not stop a substantial amount light illuminating the room from a very bright external security light on the front of the building. Unfortunately as a result I did not sleep well - even with a comfortable bed!

The brewery was not open and the rooms were a little tired

It's a beautiful building in an even more stunning location. It took my breath away. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. It was an all round incredibly positive experience.
I can fault nothing.

Friendly staff
Seemed to be populated by druggies and alcoholics. A chap spat on the ground totally unaware of people around him. So many loud and rude.
Tap top missing and had to ask for pillows, which finally arrived but missing pillowcases and only 1 per bed.

We stayed at The Keelman during our walk along the Hadrian's Wall path. Although it was clean and comfortable, we found it disappointing that our room was in a modern outbuilding rather than in the older building that houses the pub. The pictures of the place make it look like you'll be staying over an old pub, but that is not the case -- it is all a new build. The whole place seems contrived and characterless after all the real pubs and coaching inns that we had stayed in elsewhere on our trip. That said, the room was nice and the beds comfortable, and breakfast was fine (though cost extra). If you're walking the path and need a stop around their area, it will do.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good.
The rooms were noisy and had a musty smell. Toilet seat was broken.

Really nice rooms clean and comfortable with the pub right outside, plenty of parking and right by where we needed to be.
Staff helped us with a 24 hour cab service

Nothing.

The room was good value for money and the staff were really friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was shockingly bad. Sausages were like that of a supermarket frozen own brand, couldn’t be cheaper if they tried. For the price they are charging I would have expected far better quality produce.

I liked the rooms and the dinner/breakfast options.
I did not have any dislikes staying at the property.

I enjoyed the whole time I was there staff were pleasant happy to to help a beautiful environment
Especially the out door space and woodlands and was nice to see that your dog dog friendly
The only thing that would say is a fan as it was quite hot in the evening and an iron and ironing board would would handy but in fairness I didn't ask if they were available
4.0 / 10.0
Friendly and accommodating staff.
Room was comfortable.
Food too expensive for what it was. You need to reduce portion sizes but improve quality with more in house preparation.
Veggie options lacking in any protein - just removing the meat is not acceptable, it needs to be replaced with a suitable veg alternative.
Breakfast - very disappointing. Firstly we were under the assumption it was included in the room price. Secondly it ended up costing £30 but was probably only worth £5. The full breakfast was too large a portion so we went for eggs benedict, one with ham and one without (veggie), but we were still charged full price for that one. The muffin was not toasted properly, was stodgy and the hollandaise sauce was too much. Two slices of toast for £4.50 is a joke and we were charged for tea.

Host/manager was welcoming. Breakfast was good. Location was great for our first stop walking Hadrian's Wall. Packed lunch was very generous!
Dinner offer was a disappointingly small menu. Not sure if this was because they were busy due to the hot weather. Service was slow. The bath plug didn't fit - very disappointing after walking quite far that day!

It’s a pleasant location on the Ashe of Newcastle, we didn’t have breakfast but had a nice walk in the surrounding area.
It was very busy when we arrived with music outside. We’re old people so prefer things quieter nowadays, but it was a hot sunny Saturday afternoon so everyone was making the most of it.

Food generally was fine but not brilliant. For dinner, the minestrone soup was excellent and set high expectations, but then the burger was a bit dull (though I did appreciate the homemade patty), and the eggs Benedict for breakfast was again fine but the hollandaise sauce could use some work.
Food could be better.

Breakfast was a bit of a strange concoction. On the first morning we were told that owing to the managers decision, cereal wouldn't be an option, but yet on the following 2 mornings, cereal was suddenly available. Staff were very helpful and the food was plentiful and hot. It's a great location for what our group needed for a couple of days cycling.
Our room (lodge) was spacious but very tired looking. On the first day, we advised that staff that the 'knob' on the cold water tap over the sink was missing ....... it was still missing when we left 3 days later. We requested a change of towels on day 2 ........ the staff took the old towels, but didn't replace with new ones. We asked in advance if there was bike storage and were told that there was, but was a bit shocked when some of the staff were extremely objectional when we returned after our rides. The staff need to be told by management what is, and what isn't allowed. They need to be all singing of the same hymn sheet.

Very comfortable room, pleasant bar and restaurant with a good choice of meals and exceptionally friendly and helpful staff.
Not applicable. Excellent in every way

The staff are always courteous and helpful, very engaging.. it's very dog friendly and well appointed.
Very minor point, but it would be helpful if there was the ability to keep the room door unlocked when bringing in luggage as it automatically locks behind you and it would be very easy to lock yourself out.
