Excellent Stay
Excellent Stay
We had a fabulous stay in Lower Cooperage. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We had booked another property and Margaret actually contacted us shortly afterwards and suggested that Lower Cooperage might be more suitable as our son was on crutches following a skiing injury. Olwyn welcomed us and made us feel really special. A fantastic place to chill but also plenty of things to visit on the area. The quality of the property was excellent and the crockery Denby was delightful and plenty of it. A truly fantastic break. We will be back !

Really impressed by this resort. Staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The site is very different from other resorts in having used lots of existing buildings to create apartments. There were so many on site facilities - impressive. Also the level of equipment in the apartment was excellent. Food processor, scales, books and games etc. Scenery is amazing and all around you. Beautiful place to go.

We had a lovely time over the New Year with our family. The accommodation was excellent and well equipped. We would have no hesitation in recommending Melfort Village to anyone thinking of booking a stay there.

We were met with a lovely warm welcome. Cottage was perfect and comfortable with everything we needed. Weather could have been better. But our four legged friend loved every minute of his holidays. As did we. Liked it so much stayed for another week.

Could not fault property or service. If we had to highlight slight niggle was the fact that the floorboards above squeaked and the guests were often on the move during the night. Small point but we have been to many such places and we have never been asked to strip the beds and fold the towels at the door for collection. As we say small niggles which would not put us off returning. We did not use pool area but we enjoyed snooker hall which brought back memories of misspent youth.

A rural retreat
A rural retreat
This is a good place to experience a peaceful, rural holiday near Oban. The Monday evening musical presentation was wonderful. If you have plans to do things in Oban, it is a half hour drive away. I think basics such as sugar, salt and pepper should be provided for the casual visitors who are only going to be there for a couple of days.

Relaxing and comfortable
Very comfortable accommodation. Convenient for the restaurant and pool. There was no bedding for the bed settee which we noticed while reception was still open so was able to get some. We tried to book the restaurant but could not get in despite there being empty tables when we collected a take away. Food very good and reasonably priced. The village itself is a great location to do the various trips from Oban which is around 30 minutes away. Accommodation is well equipped also providing extras, i.e. Tin foil, salt and pepper which was very useful. Shower excellent.

Melfort Village
Melfort Village
We enjoyed a very enjoyable week at this lovely resort. Our cottage was most comfortable with the option of a log stove if needed. The onsite restaurant serves delicious food and take away meals. There are some lovely places to visit in the area and the Staff were most helpful in advising on what to see and how to get there.

Once again Melfort Village delivered a wonderful relaxing holiday. Plenty for the children to do and relaxing for parents as they are perfectly safe. The new take away service from the Shower of herring was great, so handy after a busy day doing nothing.

A comfortable and well appointed break in a magical location
A comfortable and well appointed break in a magical location
This was my first visit to Melfort Village in over 20 years, my family having enjoyed a timeshare there from the very early days to the mid-nineties.
We lost my Mother last year, and she adored Melfort, so this visit was resonant with nostalgia, happy family memories, cheerful ghosts around every corner.
Everything that I remember being great about Melfort was still great. The secluded location (worth the long drive and the slight sacrifice to the high street etc.. new visitors, stock up at the Co-Op in Lochgilphead or one of the supermarkets in Oban, depending on how you approach) is still as magical. A sheltered sea level basin, that opens out onto views of Loch Melfort, with spledid sunsets.
No streetlamps to disturb the inky indigo sky, from which the stars glitter and sparkle on a clear night. Just the calming rushing of the Oude and the smell of the woodburning stoves (don't worry the kitchen has an electric hob, oven and microwave) to add warmth to the tranquility.
Lower Cooprage was presented in good order, clean, comfortable, modern but not trendy or trashy.
Plenty of utensils and things like a hairdryer are supplied, nice comfortable beds, warm substantial bedding with wall heaters if required. Be warned though, the logs, kindling and firelighters are not complimentary, but priced on a par with what you would pay at a supermarket.
There is a DVD player, analogue radio and a freesat TV, our cottage had free wi-fi that was easy to access. There is a payphone in the pool building, but we found that our O2 handsets worked fine for calls, though the GPRS was weak (you are in the middle of nowhere, in the best possible way)
Not an awful lot had changed since my last visit thankfully, fresh decor aside.
The Shower of Herring has recently changed hands, and with it has lost some of the exclusivity I recall from when it first opened, on the plus side this means keener pricing and the availability of takeaway fish and chips etc, all cooked fresh, and served by friendly staff, with the Restaurant now serving almost as a community hub, with regular folk nights and tasting nights. The food was good quality and the portions bang on for the money, and best of all, our wee doggie was welcome too.
I would recommend Melfort for couples, families, outdoor types, lazy types. We won't leave it another 20 years before we return, that's for sure.

A magical Christmas time.
A magical Christmas time.
My husband and I together with our little dog Bentley have just returned from this amazing holiday village which is so very dog and child friendly. In fact it's probably the friendliest and most helpful resort that we have stayed in. The cottage was called Lower Cooperage and had two bedrooms and two bathrooms one ensuite and in both there was piping hot water and under floor heating. The cottage looked so welcoming after our long drive and it had got lovely Christmas touches to make it feel special whilst we were away. The cottage was very near reception, the meeting room for entertainment and the swimming pool and so easy to take our dog for his morning and evening amble. We were getting worried with storm alerts aplenty for the area but the staff reassured us that all would be well but supplied us with emergency provisions just in case but these were thankfully not needed. We celebrated our wedding anniversary well whilst away at Melfort Village and to conclude I would describe our Christmas 2016 as magically memorable. Many thanks all for everything, Jon and Kim Lees from Norfolk.
