Naeba Ski Resort & Fuji Rock

We had an amazing stay! Toshiro took great care of us, showing us the best restaurants, guiding us around the ski resort, and even giving us a snowboarding lesson. I made a mistake and booked a 1-room apartment even though I was traveling with my wife. Fortunately, Toshiro went above and beyond to arrange a futon for us, so we could sleep comfortably.

We really liked the property because of the friendly staff, spacious room, and the well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. Mr Toshiro drove us every day and was extremely kind and helpful.

Google Maps could not find the hotel at first, so we were a little unsure when we arrived.

The main highlight of this property was our host Toshiro. He was more than welcoming, showed us around the town, picked us up very late after a delay in getting to Haneda. He took us to the resort in the mornings and even showed us around the mountain! If you have an excuse to go to Naeba for a ski trip definitely consider this place. We are already planning our next visit.

Highly recommend a car in Naeba. There are very few shops in town for supplies.

Toshiro-san and Tanya were lovely hosts — polite, responsive and very helpful. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and overall communication was easy.

A few practical things are worth knowing. The pickup point is around a 10min uphill walk from the local bus stop along an uneven path, which can be tricky with luggage. The map shown on Booking.com was also not the exact location. The apartment is up a steep hill away from the main road rather than directly along it. For Fuji Rock, the walk felt closer to 30 minutes than 15, and the return is uphill, so I wouldn’t plan on doing it several times a day. The bed was a little uncomfortable for me, and I ended up sleeping on the sofa bed instead. The apartment also feels very much like someone’s actual home rather than a purpose-built holiday apartment. For summer stays, do note there is only a fan and no air-conditioning.
