About this villa rental
Gorgeous ocean views, perfect gardens in a forest setting, and Luna Mar's superb permanent staff of 6 complement the brilliant architecture to create a truly exceptional experience in the heart of the Mexican Riviera. In an exclusive gated community with 20 lots and private beach, Los Ranchos is part of the larger Punta Mita Resort development (which is a 3 minute ride away), giving guests access to 2 Jack Nicklaus golf courses, tennis club, children's play areas, pool and activities, fine dining, beach clubs, water sports, and much more. But it is just as likely you will never want to leave the Villa!
At the Villa itself is a spectacular pool area with padded lounge chairs, where you can watch the ocean roll in ... or walk 40 steps across the Villa's lawn to the private beach. If you wish, arrangements could be made with local excursion and sporting businesses to provide discounted professional services (with no mark-up and at the same prices owners pay) for fishing excursions or island hopping (including spectacular Marietas Islands National Park that is minutes away and part of the spectacular view from the house), boat rides to local villages accessible only by water, surfing or water board lessons, SCUBA or snorkeling, or a host of other activities pre-packaged or tailored by you. These are private tours that pick you up and drop you off on the Villa's private beach, researched and initiated by the owners for their own use, and offered to guests at the same rate as part of the Villa experience.
The Villa also has its own beach toys, including a 2-person ocean kayak, surf board, paddle board, and boogie boards.
The Luna Mar staff is the heart of the Villa; 3 of the 6 have been there since the Villa was designed and built in 2009. Headed by Joel, a seasoned professional trained in 5-star hospitality and luxury resorts, the entire staff has had extensive training and experience in hospitality services. They take tremendous pride and exceptional care in attending to your every need to make your experience at Luna Mar one you will always treasure. Chef Berta will treat you morning, noon, and evening with dining experiences that wow, with dishes from her Mexican cuisine menu or your tailored requests. Her creations are worth the trip! Our ever-changing original dinner table artwork pieces create permanent memories that make up for their all-too-short lives. They are often set to the theme of Joel's dinner venue for that evening, which you can direct or leave to Joel for a surprise that always delights. Reina attends to the house with loving care and is a master at individualized bed creations that seem to be the first topic of conversation at the breakfast table each morning. Carlos keeps the facilities running smoothly, with professional efficiency and highest reliability, and a contagious personality. However, it is misleading to label the staff individually. They work as a team, filling in where needed, with one goal in mind: creating an exceptional and very permanent experience for all our guests.
The Villa itself is beautifully appointed with fountains, garden pathways, perfect niches, spectacular courtyards, patios and a warm common area. The smallest of the bedroom suites is over 1,000 s/f, and all come with indoor and outdoor showers. All bedrooms have outdoor beds and/or hammocks for daytime naps or nighttime sleeping to the sound of the waves. The master bedroom complex is nearly 2,000 s/f indoors, and 1,000 s/f outdoors, with one huge veranda overlooking the ocean and another above the tranquil inner courtyard. Renowned architect Jose Vigil (www.jvas.net) does a masterful job of creating and then bringing together all these extraordinary spaces in a way that that manages to make a decadent Villa complex into a very warm home.
The staff enjoys providing different dining experiences each evening in the many elegant spaces of the Villa. One night a torch-lit dinner on the beach, the next a rooftop star-gazing dinner, then maybe on the new ocean viewing patio/fireplace area, still another in the courtyard by the fountain, and of course, dinner poolside. The table detail is amazing for each dinner. Bring your camera!

Travel: The staff at luna Mar picked us up at the airport, brought us into town on request, and coordinated activities outside of the villa. We did not have to worry about transportation/logistics for any part of the trip!
Food: The staff set the table beautifully (even coordinated the napkins and decorations with the meal). All allergies and food preferences were accommodated (vegetarian)! I could tell that all the elements of each meal were prepared fresh. We opted for Mexican style cuisine and asked to be surprised at each meal. Standouts for me were: chilaquiles, homemade salsa verde, mushroom pasta, mahi mahi with green sauce, key lime pie, handmade tortillas. I normally experience digestive issues but because the food was so fresh and made from scratch, my stomach didn't bother me at all!
Service: Outstanding. Ismael is a professional bartender who can make any drink and even treated us to a strawberry mojito that he created himself! The staff went out of their way to ensure that we did not have to lift a finger. The staff who cleaned the rooms were absolute ninjas and timed the cleaning when we were out. Laundry was done same day within ~6 hours. There is not a single thing I think they could have done better-- the staff are true professionals. Also I found Ismael especially to be friendly and patient with my utter lack of Spanish.
Venue: I am moderately germaphobic. The villa is extraordinarily clean. No dust, no dirt in any corner, so I was able to fully relax here. There is a short path around the house that you can walk through that has some beautiful vegetation. Even though there are multiple properties along this coast, you can't hear or see anything from the houses next door so you have full privacy.
Overall: If I could afford to come back here every year or twice a year I would. I don't have any complaints or even suggestions for improvement because it was so perfect. (Also whoever chooses the art has GREAT taste; I loved all the paintings in the house.)

The house staff is as friendly as the views are breathtaking! They made our stay effortless and memorable! The cooling system for the pool was an especially welcome treat as the weather was quite warm during our may visit. We loved lounging poolside with our expertly made tropical drinks and I would have to say the food and the jet skis we're truly hard to say goodbye to.

This was my second trip to Luna Mar. I already had high expectations based off my last trip several years ago, but once again I was blown away by the hospitality and services provided. The place is sparkling clean, the food is always fantastic (Berta made dinners that I still dream about!) and the staff sees to your every comfort. Whether you want to spend the majority of your stay relaxing by the pool, getting massages and enjoying the views or you'd like to have a more adventurous time snorkeling and zip-lining, Luna Mar will provide everything you need and more!

The house is amazingly beautiful and you cant beat the view! The amazing staff really made us feel welcomed and cared for. Dinner tables were set in different locations every day and we couldnt wait to see how the staff would come up with next! And Bertas cooking is AMAZING! I wish I could have her quesadillas and guacamole everyday!Even though we went during the middle of July, the air conditioned rooms and refreshing pool made it easy to escape the heat--along with the healthy supply of iced drinks from Francisco!During our 4 night stay, we did so many fun activities including:-Zip-lining-Snorkeling-Paddle boarding-Jet-skiing-Pool volleyball-Shopping-Massages by the beachI would highly recommend all of these activities as each one was more memorable than the last! However, if youre not the adventurous sort, theres no need to leave the luxurious property. Theres always something fun to do, even if its doing nothing at all!
