Nothing all was good

The property was well equipped and furnished (and was ideally situated for a family get together to attend a nearby wedding). We particularly enjoyed the facility to explore the gardens and grounds of Gilbert White’s house in the evenings after the museum had closed, and to have free entry to the museum to which the property is attached.

On our first night our sleep was disturbed by an intruder alarm for the attached museum. The alarm sounded twice during the night and rang for a considerable time on the first occasion. We were frustrated that the contact phone numbers supplied did not elicit a reply until the following morning. However, we did receive a fulsome apology and assurance that everything would be done to prevent a repeat of the false alarms. There were no further incidents during our stay.

This quirky apartment was beautifully decorated and has all the mod-cons, including an Alexa. Being part of the museum it gave it a nice difference to other holiday homes, with lots of history. The grounds were vast, stunning and peaceful. The beds were incredibly comfortable and it was very quiet at night. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating.

It wasn’t advertised as an apartment (this may change now as we brought it to their attention), so initially we were a little disappointed that it wasn’t a house and to access the living areas you had to go up one flight of steep stairs. We had young children and found this apartment a little tricky with the staircases, heavy doors and windows without safety features. As it’s an old building there are a lot of heavy fire doors, it is definitely not open-plan, so not as relaxing as we had hoped. This apartment may not be ideal for young families with active children. The village also has a main road running through it. There is no mobile phone service (Vodafone) in most of the village and the Wifi was a little unreliable (Alexa didn’t work for half our stay).
