About this farm stay rental

Farmhouse in La Creuse, Limousin, Peace and quiet in a rural idyll

This delightful rural property is situated in the quiet hamlet of Puy Japin in the commune of Viersat making it an ideal place to chill and relax. It is completely detached and has its own private rear garden accessed from the side of the property. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided.

This property is ideally suited for those people who wish to experience traditional rural France. Visit Puy Japin to escape the modern world. The area is excellent for walking and cycling and has brilliant wildlife to discover. We provide a TV (English channels only) as well as a large selection of DVDs and books in several languages plus toys/games for children. WIFI is provided with a 4G plus router with speeds up to 300 mbps. please note that internet speeds cannot be guaranteed. Password is supplied before booking

Electric convector heaters are available in the bedrooms, lounge and there are heaters in the bathroom. Please use energy responsibly and switch off when not required. Please note there is no log fire in the gite now. This is partly due to misuse and for safety reasons.

The property has 3 bedrooms sleeping 4 adults and 2 children. One room is a bunk bed. A toddler bed can be added on request. Two travel cots are available please supply your own bedding for babies. There is a downstairs bathroom and an upstairs shower room. Both also have sink and toilet. Sheets and towels can be provided (small additional fee) or you are welcome to bring your own. Duvets, blankets and pillows are provided. The kitchen has a small gas cooker and hob, 2 under counter fridges with ice boxes, a kettle, percolator, washing machine and microwave etc. There is also a courtyard to the front shaded by a large Ash tree. Reclining chairs are kept in the gite for use on the courtyard. Monet spent all of the spring of 1889 in Fresselines, a village along the Creuse river, exploring this world through his artist's eyes. Between March and May, he painted a series of nine canvases inspired by this landscape, which he described as “a place of terrific and savage beauty”. Fresselines is around one hour by car from the property.

Being a rural gite car use is recommended. There is no charging on site for EV. There is ample parking for several vehicles.

Montlucon is the closest town, 18km away, with a large number of shops and supermarkets. There are 2 bakeries within 8km. We recommend the bakery in Quinnsainnes open 7 mornings a week.

There is an aqua park and bowling near Montlucon.

We accept pets and the local area is great for walking with or without a dog. Rural farm paths lead from the little road where the property is situated. The area is surrounded by countryside and there are several lakes and forests to explore nature within a short drive.

Montlucon old town has a good selection of restaurants. Other restaurants are within a 30 minute drive. We especially recommend La Damier in Fontanieres, Auberge Chambonchard in Chambonchard, Le coq d’or in Chenerailles and the Auberge du moulin near Chambon Sur Vouieze

Thank you for reading and we look forward to welcoming you to the area of France that we fell in love with many years ago. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

We stayed in this gite in the summer of 2019. The gite seems smaller than we anticipated but we all slept well because it was so quiet. The owner, who stayed in the apartment next to the gite during our stay, with his family, was helpful in giving tips on what to see in the surroundings. The gite has no dishwasher and the refrigerator is very small, we had a hard time fitting al the food for our family (2 adults, 2 children). There is a washing machine and no dryer, there is a drying rack outside you can use on sunny days. Please note that inside the gite is quite noisy, if you have small children that are asleep you will have to keep it down in the living room downstairs. The second bedroom with a bunk bed had a particular smell that our kids didn’t like so they both slept in the back bedroom. There is a small garden at the back of the gite which is accessible from the side of the property (not from the gite itself). Surrounding the small garden there is a big field which can be co-used. There is a pool but it is private and not for the renters’ use. There are two swings in the back of the field that surrounds the garden. Though it said in the description that there are bikes available we didn’t find any. The surroundings are quiet and sometimes a bit desolate. Many houses in the surroundings have not been renovated and sit abandoned, often with their roofs missing. The area is very quiet except when the wind is coming from the west/north west when you can hear the E62 motorway from the gite. We visited a nice brocante market a short drive away in Evaux-les-Bains. There are many walks to take in the area and from the garden you have a nice view of the sunset.

We had 2 relaxing weeks in this typical French cottage/gite with Rob as an excellent host. A big garden in the back of the house to play and a terrace to relax with a glass of wine and a plate of French cheese and a nice view of the Limousin cows in the fields ahead to complement the holiday feeling. You will need a car, because Montlucon with shops and a nice town centre is a 15-20 minute drive away. Very nice to have 2 bathrooms with 4 people. It's wonderful to walk by the fields and through the forest surrounding the village. The area is not discovered yet by lots of tourists so you're really between the French.

The house was lovely. The perfect size with a lovely garden for the kids to play in. A downstairs bathroom with big bath was a god send with 2 babies, 2 children and an additional teenager!!!! Rob and his Dad were fabulous. Very friendly and full of very useful information about the area. Ask Rob's Dad about places to visit, he is better than the tourist information!! The house is really close to local shops for supplies and the larger town of Montlucon is a short drive away. There are some beautiful little villages close by to have a walk round too if that is your thing! We will definitely be returning for another holiday. Thanks you for a great holiday. Very Happy Parents with 5 happy children!! Kay, Graham & the tribe!
