    We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Machiya Kamiumeya. We stayed in a Japanese style garden view room and found the whole place very cosy. There is underfloor heating which keeps you toasty at night. The accommodation was self check in and check out and we didn’t see any staff during our stay, however they are great with communication prior to your arrival and are on hand and easily accessible at any time with fast replies when contacted. They have a contact centre located near Kyoto station should you need to speak to someone face to face. The accommodation is located down a quiet street a 10-15 minute walk from the main Gion area which is nice to be able to separate yourself from the busier streets with tourists. Easy links to transport all within a 10 minute walk too, we had no trouble getting about to various locations in Kyoto from this location. We have been to 3 countries in 4 weeks and this was one of the only 2 accommodations we were very sad and reluctant to leave, it really has been a beautiful stay.

    The place is unique and clean, it would be perfect if the place is bigger. Do note that the hotel check in is near kyoto station, not near the hotel. So when the hairdryer is not working, i have to wait for the next day.

    Great stay in Kyoto. Really appreciated their check in desk being right at Kyoto station with free luggage transfer to the hotel, allowing you to explore seamlessly. Was also helpful to have free laundry machines available. The hotel is on a quiet street (walking 10-20 mins to restaurants), and rooms are compact.

    The hotel reception is conveniently located near the subway, with luggage delivery available (extra fees for more than two items). However, the hotel itself is in a residential area and requires a bit of walking, which may be inconvenient with heavy luggage. Despite this, the hotel is comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.
