Villa Porsenna

The pictures of this property don't do it justice. It is a beautiful villa, nestled at the base of a large private hill, with gardens aplenty. The villa is incredibly clean, has strong wifi, good AC (though we left the windows open to enjoy the birds and breeze). Not only were we greeted with keys in person on arrival but were provided with amenities to make apertivo at home that night, and enough for breakfast each day of our stay. There is a hill to walk up to get to the village but is easy if you are reasonably ambulatory. The town of Chiusi is old and charming, and we had the best time of our trip here. Nicola or his wife checked in with us daily and were very gracious when we notified them of an accidentally broken lamp. They were kind and helpful throughout the entire stay.

The booking process could be clearer / made more consistent with other properties on Booking.com. The listing showed the entire villa including 4 guests. However, on arrival we were told my sister (a third guest) wasn't expected, so the bedroom wasn't ready and we would need to pay an additional 133 euros (in addition to city tax). In reviewing the booking again, I see how where you select dates and there is a place to indicate how many people and bedrooms. However, every other booking.com listing we rented, either showed the price as only including 2, with an option to indicate more or listed different prices for # of people/bedrooms on the main listing page. I'm not sure if it is a booking.com error or property error but it should be updated so that guests aren't surprised; especially as they may not have that amount of cash available. We still loved the location, and consider it a great value even with the included extra amount but it could have been awkward if we couldn't afford it.

We arrived at Porsenna after travelling around Europe for 6 weeks. The moment we drove down the drive and saw the villa and surrounding area we instantly felt relaxed. The hosts meet us to show us around the villa and to explain how everything worked. They were very welcoming and also available throughout our stay to answer questions and to resolve any unforeseen issues. The villa had all the essentials for a relaxing stay and the breakfast supplies were plentiful. We ate mostly on the terrace to enjoy the view. The villa is situated in a fantastic position and only 5 minutes walk to the historic town of Chiusi, where you can wander the streets and enjoy great food and wine, visit the local museum or try your hand at making ceramics. The villa is also only a 30-minute or so drive to other local towns that we enjoyed exploring. We especially enjoyed the pasta cooking class. During our stay we also got to experience the annual Chiusi grape and wine festival.

The mosquitos which we resolved with repellant. Note: the steps from the living area to the bedrooms are quite steep with no handrail so not the best if you have mobility issues, but good excuse to hold hands.
