house / villa - 7 rooms - 11/12 persons

An ageing but beautiful house, with huge pool, terrace, lots of space, sun and shade, in a wonderful situation on the side of a hill, 5 minutes drive from St Jean du Gard with shops and supermarket. But it has one major flaw - the traffic noise from the road below. If this does not bother you, and you don’t mind minor discomfort (big, heavy duvet covers - tip: bring your own!) you will love this place.

Nice pool, good outdoor seating areas, excellent kitchen

This is a lovely large house in a big property with plenty of space in the garden and terraces as well as the good sized pool. We were 10, 6 adults and 4 children and had plenty of space although we only used the four bedrooms upstairs; the others are in the rather dingy downstairs. We only used the shower and table tennis down there. The house has clearly been in a family for many years, generations even, and probably needs a thorough overhaul in terms of furnishings but it was a lovely, large space for the children to run around and play safely and for us all to have big family meals together outside. It was very irritating that the dishwasher was not working when we were there and was too small to cater for such a large number; it is apparently being replaced. The showers also need attention and refitting although they are able to be used. No loo rolls or bin bags were provided which we found very strange and also we had to make our own beds on arrival which I did not anticipate having been told the beds would be made. Some of the electrical fittings appeared somewhat unsafe. Otherwise we had a great time and loved the village and markets too!

We had a wonderful week here as a large family party. The terrace and outdoor eating area is spacious with an amazing view that you will never tire of. The kitchen is big, and very well equipped for a rental property. The pool is huge, and you can do proper lengths, but you can also go down to the river which is very close by and lovely for a dip. St Jean du Gard has several weekly markets, a zip wire place for kids (and adults!), steam train, canyoning and there are endless beautiful walks in the area. A good choice for an active holiday or just reading a book by the pool. We were a large group of 14, so some of the bedrooms were not as nice as others, but this was outweighed for us by the positives. Would definitely go back.
